Question about Hiding Email address

Who setup the SMF on this forum ? The default value for email address on the profile is visible to everyone in public and search engines. Right now I can go to any profile on astral pulse and get their email address without their permission if you didnt changed the default values. Any spam bot can scrap those emails, no wonder I have been getting daily spams for weeks.

You need to make it hidden by default. Facebook got sued for privacy, remember ?

The option is clearly there when you're creating an account to hide your email address.  The choice is yours to not do it. 
It's entirely your responsibility to read everything when signing up for an account here, or anywhere for that matter.



You may even go in and change it after the fact as well.

Click "Profile" at the top of this and every page on the forum
When in your profile, on the left hand side click "Account Related Settings"
Check off "Hide email address from public?" checkbox

What if facebook said it was users responsibility to change their default values for privacy of their posts and photos, that would screw them up for millions of dollars, I think it should be default set to hidden for everyone. Most of them don't notice that option when signing up.

I agree completely and will have Adrian change it when he gets around to it.
But, in the meantime... let's subscribe to a little self-discipline.

This is a lesson for everyone... don't just blindly click through screens when registering for anything.

In any case, this has been brought up previously... it's being looked into.
If you, for whatever reason, don't agree with how it's currently setup, you could always remove your account.
