question on private messages

If you go to properties on your internet browser, in Advanced you can disable all sounds on web pagers so  'sound files' wont load as you surf. I hope that fixs the lack of memory causing the crash/ freezing.

is there any way to turn off that sound? 'new private message' or something to that nature.. i've looked in for an option that turns it off but wasn't able to find one.

the problem is that when i'm at my grandmas (as i am now), the computer comes close to freezing when the sound plays. it's especially annoying since i can already plainly see i have a private message with the button in the center of the screen, and my speakers are already in use most of the time, so i don't hear anything anyway. my screen just locks for 5 to 10 seconds.. and when i click the button to read the message, it locks again since the sound is repeated at the inbox.

i might've missed the option that disables this.. i'm not sure.
