Title: Suggestion: A 'light' search page...
Post by: wantsumrice on June 01, 2004, 18:06:52
That's actually a REALLY good idea.  My connection also blows, so having such a heavy weight search engine...i'm left waiting for a couple hours.

I have been told that my comcast is faster and more hardcore than a T1 line and it still takes me like 30 seconds to load the search engine of this site. [:(]

Whoever told you a cable line could ever be faster than any T1 line was lying.  Big time.  That's like saying DSL is faster than an OC3 line.

This is a wonderful idea and I'll be sure to let Adrian know about this topic to consider this addition.

SpectralDragon, I don't think that your network speed is the problem; it's the HTML code (especialy the members pulldown menu) that is too big for the browser...

The actual search page weights close to 350Kb of HTML...  My poor little browser on my poor little laptop can't handle it any more...  It takes more than a full minute each time the page is displayed (and the browser kind of freeze the whole time)...

I would suggest 2 search pages; the current one, and a 'light' one without the search by member option...  Or maybe switch the member pulldown menu with a textbox were we enter the name manually?
