Threads for polls

It seems to me that there once was a way to start a thread as a poll, so that it would keep track of how many of each responses were entered as also allow responses. I cannot seem to find it and would like to start a poll about how many people have read Robert Bruce's writings, both in paperback and online.

Telos

Sorry to resurrect this old thread, but, I have the same question!

Why can we make polls in "Forums Bugs Reports and Questions," but not in the other areas of forum? I apologize if this has been answered elsewhere.

Nick

I've never created a poll, however saw this thread and checked our FAQ. This is what I found:

"How do I create a poll?
Creating a poll is easy -- when you post a new topic (or edit the first post of a topic, if you have permission) you should see a Add Poll form below the main posting box. If you cannot see this then you probably do not have rights to create polls. You should enter a title for the poll and then at least two options -- to set an option type in the poll question and click the Add option button. You can also set a time limit for the poll, 0 being an infinite amount. There will be a limit to the number of options you can list, which is set by the board administrator

How do I edit or delete a poll?
As with posts, polls can only be edited by the original poster, a moderator, or board administrator. To edit a poll, click the first post in the topic, which always has the poll associated with it. If no one has cast a vote then users can delete the poll or edit any poll option. However, if people have already placed votes only moderators or administrators can edit or delete it; this is to prevent people rigging polls by changing options mid-way through a poll"

Nick, thank you for your reply. That FAQ is pretty much the standard for all PHP forums on the net. I should rephrase my question.

How come we don't have permission to create polls in the other sections of the forum?

The Add Poll form is only present (for me) when posting in "Forums Bug Reports and Questions."

Nick

Hi Telos,

OK I rolled up my sleeves and used the Search engine and located some administrator/moderator discussions regarding members creating polls from a number of months ago.

It is correct that members can only initiate a poll in the forum bugs forum. Last fall, our administrator reviewed all of the various permissions on the forums and decided to tighten them up. There were specific reasons for that (which I prefer not to elaborate on).

Now only moderators can see the poll posting options although if a poll is posted by a moderator anyone can respond to it.

The option you have though, is to PM one of the moderators, and ask for a specific poll in a specific forum. It will be reviewed, and if approved, will be created in the requested forum.

All the best,
Nick

Thank you very much, Nick! I appreciate it!
