A misspelled word here and there is not bad but it is those people who don't care enough to even try to spell correctly.  The posts where people type things us and half of the words are almost unreadable are the ones that annoy me but those are few and far between and I understand when their native language is something other than english.  We can usually understand things even with misspellings so it is not a big deal but a spell check would not be a bad idea.

Beavis is dead on here.  Misspellings aren't just like  "liek, jsut, adn" all of the time.  Most people simply do not care for proper grammar.  They seem to think that typing "u, r, 2, b, 4, y, etc" is easier.  Well... it ain't easier for the reader.  If you think about it, you're really leaving me an option for the word you really meant.

2 = to? too? two? or did you really mean the number 2?

4 = for? four? or did you really mean the number 2?

y = and (spanish)? why? x + y = z (variable)?

b = be? bee? bea?

Seriously, adding a spell check will not do a thing.  The spelling errors are not in big words, they're in words that people don't look over while they're typing.  Occassionally, we all make mistakes.

That's not even a sentence.  COME ON NOW.  If we allow more spelling shortcuts onto the internet it will all become much worse further down the road.  Such as...

Oh and also, I took the time to type out those ARDUOUS extra two keys along the way.  Man, typing the word "to" was impossibly hard.

One more thing, I realize that some people have english as a second language thing going on.  That's perfectly fine, I'm not targeting you.  I'm targeting the 12-15 year old kids in America that can't even speak the lingo.

Cool Squeek, they need to learn their lesson.  I guess I am just a spelling freak and hate it when I type a word wrong, but can't think of the spelling.  The people that use English as a second language could use it and I know I could.  But I really wish the people that use internet lingo would keep it on instant message for their phones at least and not take it to a civilized board where no one is going to know what you said.

I am not an english native and struggle with it at times, but it keeps me desperate. A checker would make it too easy. Anyone who is that concerned with the language can just type in Word and copy , right!

I volunteer to start with the basics of the spelling system and teach the young how to spell correctly. Who's with me! Or we can continue watching Squeek flame them. That is always worth dealing with the hard to read posts.

Yea, that is very true, becuase 99 out of a 100 teenagers are lazy to the point of being worthless. I think it's pathetic, cause I am a teen but actually give a ****. (oh the many words I could have used there) haha[]

Look neo, I really don't care how you write, because I don't even listen to anything you say.  It's the case with anybody who writes like you.  I see two words like that and move on, because I know it's just a waste of my time.

Lest you forget, I myself am a teenager, and I forbid myself to do any of such neanderthalic actions while I type.  I want people to be able to read my remarks and attack my views on it, not my spelling.

I used to be like that... when I was first starting out on AIM.  That was about 4 years ago.  I haven't done so since.  Then, when acronyms came out, I started to do those.  Now I'm getting rid of all of those as well, because saying "lol" in the middle of a sentence doesn't make any sense.  "I am so cool laughing out loud."

Meh.  I'm done with this issue, it's upon yourselves whether you care about being heard or not.

PS- keeping with the topic, Microsoft Word has the best spell checker of all time.  Use it.  If you don't have word, I suggest http://www.m-w.com or http://www.dictionary.com

I have to agree with Squeek on this subject and I know many other people are as well.  If I see those kind of abreviations on words I just skip the post and sometimes the entire topic.  Not because I am not interested in the topic but mainly because if you can't use full words you obviously don't have much respect for those reading it and therefore I lose respect for you.  Sorry but it is true.  I can honestly say that I have never once read all the way through one of your posts because of this fact.  The first one I saw had these kind of spellings and ever since I have avoided your posts.  So if you want to be respected with the majority of the board members I would recommend respecting them by using proper spellings and grammar.

P.S. That is not the way teens type these days, I know many more teens that type correctly than use things like 1337 speak and forms of writing that either make it difficult to read or shorten the typing time.

people like me can write well we just choose not too, its a free country(internet[]) so why the hell sohuld we[}:)].

I think is an extremly important in a larger social context. Around where I live there is a constant stream of holmeless teens moving up and down the coast in search of parties and free stuff. Most feel entitled and all to often grow up into useless adults who are incompetent and still have the sense of entitlement that they had when they were teens.

Most of these people lack basic skills such as reading, writing, math, etc.

As to the first statement you are right but there is a difference between being illiterate and not caring.  You said it yourself you choose not to.  It is very easy to tell the difference between someone just being lazy and someone who doesn't know the language or has to small of a vocabulary to write well.  I have no problem with those who try, and am more than willing to try and help clarify in any way I can, it is those that don't that irk me.

Finally the internet is not totally free, in fact upon signing up hear you gave up a lot of freedom when on this site.  Adrian and the mods have the right to do as they please with all information you post and your account.  You are just ignorant for thinking that freedom of speech always applies to the internet for you are sorely mistaken, just like any other business a website has the right to refuse service or access as it may be for any reason what so ever.  It just so happens that Adrian and the mods try there best to maintain freedom of speech on this site but it is in no way required.  You are in no way a master and I am done with this discussion, I will continue to ignore your posts as I have in all cases other than this thread as it is my freedom that cannot be denied while all others can.
