Welcome to Magic! / levitation
October 21, 2005, 12:17:26
In eastern mysticism, in particular yoga, it is often spoken of, being one of the major siddhis attainable.

There are three methods that can supposedly achieve this. The first one, is by energizing the upper part of the sushumna, which is known as the udana. Udana is the name of the upward flowing energy in the body as well, which is why it works, basically increasing the energy "pushing" upwards.

The second method is that of focusing on chakras, there are three chakras that induce levitation, these are the muladhara, anahata and ajna. Root, heart and third eye respectively. By focused meditation on these areas, and breathing energy into them (gold is usually used) such a feat is said to be attainable. HOWEVER, according to most of the yogi's, the true siddhis of a chakra are only available to those who have the kundalini awakened, and for the chakras that it has passed as well.

The third method, is not of the east but more of the west, and is described quite thoroughly in Franz Bardon's Initiation into Hermetics. It involves accumulating the air element within you to such a degree, that all of your selves develop an airyness and thusly a lightness, allowing levitation. But using only the air element to try and achieve enlightenment is not advised, as this can develop elemental unbalances which will be negative to any real growth of the magician. In fact, trying to levitate is not advisable by any arts, as attatchment to siddhis can distract one from that which should be the ultimate aim, godhood.
