I am new to studying OBE and am currently reading Astral Dynamics. A few years ago I had several waking paralysis episodes. They were almost identical to what Robert describes in the book except that he said that it is usually quiet. In my episodes it starts by my hearing a very faint "alarm" sound, this sound gets steadily louder and more intense in frequency. It then seems as if I am coming out of a dream state and I now realize that I am awake and am totally paralyzed. I have tried with all of my strength to break the paralysis or yell but could do nothing. The next day my muscles would be sore from fighting it. When the paralysis would wear off I would feel a presence in the room and it would be quite frightening.
Have any of you had similar experiences or can offer any insight?
