Welcome to Magic! / Re: aleister crowley

Read "A Magick Life".  It is a book about his life.  Pretty unbiased book that takes a look at what he did and stood for.  The guy certainly led an amazing life, but most of what is out there about him is rumor.

He was named the most wicked man alive primarily because he didn't believe in the church and went out of his way to do everything that was considered a sin.  Homosexuality was also a main reason that he was believed to be so wicked.

9 times out of 10, yoga at a mainstream gym will simply focus on poses and breathing.  It is given as a strength and flexiblity class, not a spiritual class.  Not that it is a bad thing though.

I am not saying that there is or that there is not an afterlife.  What I am saying is that nothing has been PROVEN either way.  I certainly lean more toward believing in the afterlife, but I have not been convinced.  It is one of those things that can't be proven, so we will all have to just go through it and see what happens.

Lot's of people experience lots of different things.  Like minded people tend to experience similar things.  Just because MANY Christians think that they have talked to god, does not mean that they are correct.  Every religion has it's own group of people that have experienced certain things that would have them believe that they are the only possible correct answer.  Just like scientists believe that through their experiments and studies that they are correct.  It all comes down to the fact that  nobody knows for sure.

In my opinion it is just as closed minded to be absolutely sure that there is an afterlife as it is to be absolutely sure that there isn't one.

I will delete my earlier post.  No need for it anymore.

James -

I appreciate where you are coming from and thank you for the reply.  However, to me $500.00 is quite a bit of money.  While I realize that counselors and psychologists also cost a lot of money, the difference is that insurance will pay for counseling and psychiatric help, whereas they will not cover any sort of "spiritual guidance".  So I can visit a Psychiatrist for about 10 dollars, and a visit to you would cost me 500.

If I were to tell my wife that I just spent 500 dollars on spiritual counseling....let's just say it wouldn't go over well.  If I did it on a regular basis, I would probably end up divorced.  On the other hand, I could easily go to a psychiatrist 2 or 3 times a month without her batting an eye, since it would only be 20-30 dollars.

Also considering that the ratio of genuine / corrupt spiritual serivices out there is not very good, it is tough to feel like you know that your large sum of money will not be wasted.  To me, I have a deep rooted fear of being scammed and the thought of paying 500 dollars for something with no guarantee is not something that I am likely to sign up for.

So I guess that leaves me with teaching myself.  Which I realize can be done (Thank you to those that have replied encouraging me to do so), but I am the type of learner that learns better when shown a time or two.  Otherwise I spend a lot of time worried that I am doing things incorrectly.

Again, thank you for the responses.

most of the blockages are related to emotional suppression and bad childhood experiences. Being in a bad physical shape, which means your physical system not working in a balanced way is another reason why we may encounter blockages in our energy/consciousness system. But you know its a hell of journey we take in a lifetime trying to understand ourselves, taking the obstacles out of the road.

Doing physical exercises may help decrease depression, while taking time thinking deeply about ourselves, deciding what we appreciate Most in life and what we do want most, and what stands in the way of our thinking, causing us to be unbalanced can help removing mental blackages.

I think he/she was refering to energy blockages as opposed to mental blocks.

And, I don't know what causes blockages.  I am just now learning about the whole thing.

Considering that 100% of people who sleep "suffer sleep paralasys", I would say that there is a link.  But honestly, this article just seems to be written by someone who has never had an OBE or SP for that matter.  I think that SP is definitely a stage involved, but it is not one in the same.  I think it is a gross oversimplification of something that science can't explain.

Why is it that if a person wants to learn about Spirituality/Meditation/Yoga..... that they have to be willing to spend hundreds of dollars to find out?

I have been looking into these topics for a while now and aside from free forum's (thank you to all of the contributors on here) and the occasional free ebook here and there, it is very difficult to find anyone who will teach you anything for free, or even low cost for that matter.

It really seems that there is only so much that you can learn from a book.  Learning from someone "hands on" seems needed, and traditionally it has always been the case.  Perhaps I am confused, but I don't remember any Guru's charging an arm and a leg to teach people their yoga back in the day.  Living up in a cave in a mountain, I guess I wonder what they would do with the money.....

I find these organizations in my local area and they all have outrageous fee's attached to them.  I mean really, is that what it is all about?  It just seems so far from the essence of what it is supposed to be about.  It borders on exploitation IMHO.  It is hard for me to see it as anything more than profiting on the hope and dreams of people.

Am I the only one who feels this way?

You can have your eyes open, closed, or 1/4 open. You might find this helpful: How Meditation Works.

That ws a good read.  Thank you for showing me that.

I like Ginko, although... it does seem to really clog me up (constipate).  I am not sure if it is just me, or the brand I am taking, but it is definately only when I take Ginko Biloba.

Thank you for the tips.

I have been working on Lucid Dreaming for the last year or so and it is a regular part of my sleep to try and focus on nothing but my breath.  I usually do this for about 1/2 hour or so.  So I pretty much just need to do the same thing in a seated position and with my eyes open?  I guess I have a hard time with the transition from laying in the dark to sitting in the light.

I have been working on developing my energy for the last week.  Last night I was laying down, relaxing, and trying to get the energy into my sub-naval center.

Now lately, I have really been unable to get it above my thighs but last night I had it all the way up to my hips.  I still didn't feel like it was filling up the sub naval though.

I worked on this for about 1/2 hour and when I was done I had a stabbing kind of pain in my lower back.  It has not gone away yet.  I am pretty new to all of this and I assume that these are unrelated but I figured I would check with the experts.

I know a lot of you out there are adept at meditation.  I really need some assistance in getting started.  What I am looking for is pretty much a step by step guide for dummies...

I just don't really know where to start.  If there is any way to tie it in with energy development that would be nice too.

Again, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance

"What can I donate through my ear?"  Just reading your question I was going to say that your subconscious was telling you to listen more...  But reading your dream, it seems like that wasn't the case.

Interesting though :)

Welcome to Dreams! / emotions in dreams
February 06, 2006, 07:09:50
I once broke up with my girlfriend (currently my wife) because of a dream.  I went to sleep and in my dream, I met a complete stranger but it was love at first sight.  I mean LOVE, so powerful, it was something I had never even came close to experienceing before.  I really understood what it meant to meet your soul-mate.  When I woke up, I felt like my relationship was empty because I didn't get that feeling from my girlfriend (things were kind of rocky at the time anyways).  But I just felt depressed that I couldn't feel that type of love in my real life.

I also feel anger in my dreams.  Love and anger are the 2 strongest emotions in my dreams.

HILD (Hypnosis Induced Lucid Dream) Tutorial

This is a tutorial on how to hypnotize ones self and, more specifically, how one can induce a large amount of long, vivid, highly lucid, realistic lucid dreams in a short amount of time. Hypnosis is working with your subconscious and dreams are your subconscious' world. That means you can get your subconscious to want you to become lucid.
I've had a lot of experience with this. This tutorial is based on my experience that this is an extremely efficient method. I say this because within a month of starting lucid dreaming I had six lucid dreams in six nights with this method. I'm not saying that this will work as well for everyone who tries this technique as it did for me, just that this is how well it worked for me. Narrate to yourself or in other words use internal dialog. Lay in whatever position is most comfortable to you. Doing this before sleep is probably best, however you may fall asleep if you do it at this time. The following will be in a step-by-step format to keep it simple.

1) Count from one to one hundred while breathing deeply in and out to the rhythm of the counting. In other words you would count one then breath and count two then breath out. This would go back and forth like that until you reached one hundred.
2) Tell yourself that heaviness is moving up your feet, ankles, calves etc. until you reach the scalp. This is, of course, moving from your feet up and involving actually wanting and willing for the heaviness to occur.
3) Tell yourself that weights are being tied to your ankles, waist, neck, and wrists. This too is to be willed to happen.
4) Tell yourself a new heaviness, twice as heavy as the last, is coming down your scalp, face, head, neck etc. until you reach the feet. Of course, yet again, this is to be willed.
5) Tell yourself that bags of sand, twice as heavy as the weights, are being tied to your neck, wrists, waist, and ankles. This too is to be willed.
6) Imagine a chalkboard with the alphabet written across the top and the numbers zero through to nine written along the bottom. Now go through and erase each letter then each number while thinking repeatedly, "Knowledge doesn't matter right now. It does when I'm dreaming and when I'm fully awake. However, all that matters right now is my goal to..." In this case you would say that your goal is to have long, vivid, highly lucid, realistic lucid dreams with full control every night with complete recall of the dreams every morning upon awakening.
7) Imagine a skywriter plane flying overhead, writing out your name. Now, as it flies off, imagine your name blowing away in the wind. Now think to your self, "My identity doesn't matter right now. It will matter when I'm dreaming and when I'm fully awake. However, all that matters right now is my goal to..."Yet again, in this case you would say your goal is to have long, vivid, highly lucid, realistic lucid dreams with full control every night with complete recall of the dreams every morning upon awakening.
8) Say that you will count from one to five and when you reach five your relaxation will double. Now count to five.
9) Say that you will count to from one to ten and when you reach ten your relaxation will triple. Now count to ten.
10) Say that you will count from one to five and that with each count your relaxation will double. Count to five.
11) Say that you will count from one to ten and with each count your relaxation will triple. Count to ten.
12) Say, "From now on I will have at least one lucid dream a night that is long, vivid, realistic, under my complete control, and remembered upon awakening."
13) Say you will count from five down to one and when you do you will be, once again, fully aware. Count down to one.

I find that it takes a night without lucid dreams or a night without any dream recall at all before the suggestions start working. You should probably try to forget you planted the suggestions for them to take the full effect. If your frequency or quality of your lucid dreams go down then you should reinforce the suggestions by doing the procedure over again. You should probably still do reality checks throughout the day for a little extra help and keep a dream journal if you have a difficulty with dream recall. I believe that this is better than conventional methods because you're working with the subconscious rather than against it as in other methods. Just a thought. I hope that everyone has some good luck with this technique.  "

This being the WILD technique.  My question is:  With this method and other sleep methods, when they say to "Say that you will count from one to five and when you reach five your relaxation will double. Now count to five. " Do they mean out loud?

Or when they say "Say "I will have a lucid dream" as you are going to sleep"  Again, do they mean out loud? Or is this all done in your mind?

Sorry for the stupid question, but...... I just want to ensure that I am understanding correctly.

Just like we sleep for the same reason everyone else does.

The fact that Dr's say that it can't be done, and the fact that NO ONE ELSE IN THE WORLD CAN DO IT are probably the main reasons that no one believes you.  The world record is 11 days for a reason.

You seem to be pretty eager to pat yourself on the back and brag about your special abilities.  Why don't you go out and beat the world record?  1 extra day on the world record wouldn't call any attention to yourself, you would just be a name in a book.  But if we all see it go from 11-12 days, we would know that you are for real.

But as it stands now, you are just on here seeking attention for yourself.  Looks like it worked, congratulations.

:sad3:

Well, thank you for the reply.  The more that I read the other posts on this board, the more significance that I see in that dream.  I appreciate the support.  I really hope I can figure out a way to finish that dream.

I just downloaded BWGEN and listening to the presets infront of my computer definately give me wierd sensations.  Most noticeable is a rise in temperature, especially in my abdomen.  My skin on my stomach feels really warm.... wierd!  My cheeks are feeling flush also.

I want to try sleeping to this.  It almost feels a bit too intense though.

Anyone else get these warm sensations?

That is an interesting way to look at it.  "Do you remember it, or do you remember experienceing it?"  Usually most of my dreams feel like I experience them.  I just don't have control....

Thanks for the response.

Wow, reminds me of Dreamcatcher *Stephen King.

Good read, curious if anyone else has seen these kids?  Can you post your picture that you drew?

Welcome to Dreams! / Recent Dream

So my dream was pretty scattered at first but it ended up with me in a room full of people.  Weird thing was that we were all sitting on the floor.  It seemed to be almost a party of some sort, or just a group of like minded people?

Anyway, I remember that there was one person in particular who seemed to be the focus of attention in the corner of the room that I was in.  Everyone seemed to be really interested in what he had to say.  I remember that he was wearing a medal for some reason and that was what most people were talking about.  He seemed pretty humble about it, but it definitely seemed to signify that he was of some importance.

Next, I began to realize that the group seemed to be people who were interested/involved/practicing.... somewhat affiliated with Lucid Dreaming/OBE...etc.  So I start talking to a couple of people who were sitting near bye.

I remember that I felt embarrassed because I didn't really know why I was there.  I had to ask one of the people sitting near me "I am so sorry for sounding ignorant, I don't want the answers just spoon fed to me or anything....  I really am trying..." etc " but, how do you know if you are Lucid or not?"

He replied "How do you think I feel?"  looking at me as if he gets asked this a million times a day.  Then his friend leans over and says "You need help?"

I replied "Yes, I do."  Then, she turned around and talked to someone and pointed at me.  All of the sudden, everyone was laying down and they were dimming the lights and closing the curtains.  Then she came up to me and whispered in my ear, "Don't worry, I will be right back"

Then BAM I am back awake.

One side of me really wants to think that I was close to something there.  The other side of me tells me that I have been obsessing on Lucid Dreaming too much lately and my dream was just a reflection of that.

Anyways, I just figured I would share.

Welcome to Dreams! / a "lucid dreaming" dream

Sounds like a Lucid Dream to me.  It sounds like you were aware that you were dreaming and then took control of your dream.  That is all that I want in a Lucid Dream.....

Still no luck LD'ing.  I did seem to get over the jerking awake issue though.  Dream Journal seems to be helping with dream recall quite a bit.  I will keep trying to condition myself to do the reality checks during the day....

Welcome to Dreams! / Basic's, Please?

Quote from: Carryhallo everyone. This is my first post

about realizing that you're in a dream...  unreal things don't work so good for me. The only thing that so far has somehow (no, i can't quite say that i have LD 'ed fully) are repeating dreams or symbols or things (a la: a familiar car or a house I've dreamed about sometimes before.). ..

But the problem with LD is, that each time i go to sleep at nights, I'm trying to observe my awake-half awake-sleep conditions. And at some point when something familiar appears in the half dream stage, i flinch or startle. And the next thing, of course, I'm awake. The flinch or startle or whatever u call it thing seems to be happening subconsciously...so it's hard to control it (well...seems impossible). If anyone cares to comment...then please. thanks.

Just starting myself.  And I can completely relate to what you are saying.  I had the same thing keep me up all night/morning (night shift worker).  Every time I would drift off to sleep, I would realize that I was sleeping/dreaming and instantly flinch and wake up.  Very frustrating.  Hopefully it goes away, as was posted earlier.
