Good post DH, I appreciate your like-minded insights.  In continuing with the subject, what amuses me most is that in the first thirty pages of the New Testament one is able to read numerous supposed quotes from Jesus which directly contradict what some Christians/branches of Christianity believe.  For example, Jesus tells us to pray in one's closet and not in the street or in Churches, on the basis that those that do pray in public do so partly for the sake of being perceived as devout, by others.  Moreover, in the New Testament, praying is akin to meditation and not attempting to commune with "God" literally with one's little ego-voice.  Also, Heaven is not conceived of by Jesus as being in the hereafter.  It is apparent to me that the Heaven Jesus refers to is the same as the eternal-now, perceived thusly through being egoless.  If Heaven was in the hereafter, why would Jesus say "seek first the kingdom of heaven within and all will be added unto you." ?

And what does Jesus have to say about Sin?  Jesus says that one does not have to commit a sinful external act to be a sinner; one has only to think a sinful thought.  Moreover, when Jesus cures people afflicted with illnesses he (paraphrase) "forgives them for their sins."  Thus, one can deduce that illnesses are not "God's" plan per se as some "faithful" people may believe.  Illness may arise directly due to one's actions/sins; cause and effect; karma.  This sin/karma to which I am referring almost entirely originates from within one's mind.  One must understand this, to see that sinful external actions are merely a manifestation of sinful thinking.

Again, this is directly derived from the first 30 pages of the New Testament.  And I could go on and on...

This kind of information is always amusing.  DH, you are completely correct with regards to "[being] literal only when it's convenient for [one's] value system."  With regard to homosexuality, using the bible to slander someone based on this, is nothing more than a justification for one's own phobias or insecurities.

You know, I think the comfort of so-called heaven often motivates people to be Christian - and certain Christian's consider themselves so, on the basis of this belief; nonetheless, they often sin daily.  In my opinion such people are not Christian.

Welcome to Dreams! / Re: my crazy dream
February 17, 2007, 19:12:41
I believe your dream about your missing puppy could be simply, a dream about fear.  That is, fearing the outcome of what may have happened to your puppy.  Your other dream about your cat seems to fit the theme of fear-outcome as well.  For example, your missing cat returned alive but also your missing (bodiless) cat did not return alive - both outcomes were projected in the same dream.  You may think, additionally, that there has to be some significance to the ways in which your missing puppy's head and your bodiless cat's head manifested.  And I would say, that the significance is that the heads of your pets are the most recognizable feature, that which you project your feelings on to.  As well, in interpreting the dream about your puppy and the significance of the gypsy I would say that the gypsy was another aspect of your fear, justifying your fear.

I think dreams are not typically prophetic for people and can almost always be related to the thoughts, desires, fears, conflicts, actions etc that one experiences in life.  Therefore, whenever you have a dream that surprises you, think back to the previous day and see if you can pinpoint what caused your dream to manifest as it did.

Interesting, thanks for the info.  I also remembered another intriguing thing that occurred during my experience:  my psoriasis and eczema completely went away but after my mental and energy state returned to a more normal level, it returned.

It could be, also, that you have lots of muscle tension and that act of being aware highlights this for you.  Many people have this tension, it is often unconscious, be it from stress, self-consciousness, emotion, etc.  Try, while not mediating, grabbing a hold of areas of your calf muscle or areas above and to the side of your hip to see if they are sore (or any other area for that matter).  I recommend practicing some kind of formal qigong to eliminate this.  As well, the microcosmic orbit meditation seems have a wonderful effect on tension for me.

Best of luck

I was contemplating this possibility also.  However, if this was the case, it was purely accidental and quite premature.  I am in no way a proficient meditator so what occurred rather surprised me.  I was thinking, perhaps, that following my experience, the energy may have descended but not done so properly or completely and that I need to balance everything.  Further supporting the supposition of kundalini, I should mention also that my digestion was quite altered during that experience.  For example, I could eat one solid meal and not "pass" it until after 6 days.

But again, I am perplexed because now I can recognize many of the things and thoughts I experienced were real but also some were ego-inflated and thusly not true.  The ego inflation, however, was on the level of wanting to intellectually comprehend reality - I had long wanted to make sense of existence.  If anything this experience shattered the notion that that is even possible.  Moreover, that dissolving "self" by means of not thinking i.e. meditation is the only approach to achieving true understanding.

Hmm, yes...I have already sufficiently debated the energy vs pathological standpoint.  However, the primary effect of my experience is that it has cleansed me mentally.  The after-effects are indeed real, there is no doubt for me, and because of the sensations I am quite certain that it is energy related.  Thank you for your input, I do choose to nurture this position I find myself in, I suppose I just need to put more practice into action.

Almost one year ago I had the strangest experience of my life.  I was trying to contemplate reality on a solely intellectual level and then bam - all of a sudden I felt awake.  I have never before felt so alive and awake as I did at that time.  Breathing felt invigorating, I only needed a few hours of sleep per night and thought was effortless.  In fact thinking was so effortless that a week after the initial onset, I couldn't stop thinking.  As well, I could perceive intensely, energy from plants when I touched them.  I started to feel like I was living outside of my head, like I could anticipate what was going to happen next and I couldn't but help to draw comparisons between any and all events and see how everything was related.  When I observed people everyone had a distinctly washed out appearance in their eyes.  I started to have weird and ego-inflated thoughts and I knew they were that but it was a battle to keep them in check.  I felt like I was going insane.  I then could not sleep and had to resort to medication to quite my thoughts and sleep.  But it didn't seem right, so I quit the medication and tried to cope naturally.

It took extreme effort to meditate and only focus on my breath for several days hours on hours on end - it was only after the fifth consecutive day of not sleeping that I finally did manage to sleep.  During my span of not sleeping, for several days my body felt lifeless and extremely hot, I have never felt so miserable in my entire life; any and all muscles that were tight (of which there were a lot) I could excruciatingly feel.  I also began having muscle twitches and wave-like sensations over my entire body.  But everything returned to normal from there on - sort of.  After what had happened I questioned absolutely everything about myself, from the way I act, from the position I take when I think I am right - everything.  But To date, nearly a year after, I still have muscle twitches and wave-like sensations throughout my body.  Not to the same intensity but it is still there.  Specifically, the twitches and sensations are more focused in the lower half of my body but there is still distinct sensations over the rest of my body as well.  Many muscles are still extremely night and nothing I do will release them.

My thoughts are that I may have imbalanced energy in my body - I am almost certain this is the case.  However, nothing I do will solve this.  Does anyone have any recommendations?  I was thinking about embarking upon a long water fast of 10-20 days as I heard this can balance energy.

Thanks for any responses.

Because I disagree with the ridiculous amounts of money Richard Gordon charges for various products and seminars in his "healing revolution" I will tell you that you may be able to find an archival copy of the book at a popular torrent site; namely, btjunkie.

That's just it though, I wouldn't say that it exactly works because I can never go beyond the 3d blackness via focusing on the area between my brow because of the strong heart-rush sensations as well as rapid-eye-fluttering sensations...

Welcome to Astral Consciousness! / Phasing Question
February 14, 2007, 00:36:41
I have read the FAQs for phasing; however, I would still like to clarify one thing if anyone knows the answer.  Is preferable to focus on the area between your brow while attempting to phase?  I ask this because focusing on this area is the only way for me to achieve the 3d blackness state accompanied by the heart-rush sensations.  Or, is it really just as simple as not focusing on anything but just being aware of everything that happens?  Thanks for any input.

Just thought I would share this link: http://www.kriyayogainfo.net/index.html

Available for download are 2 free e-books which disclose the techniques of Kriya Yoga.  The Kriya school of yoga, was brought to the West by Paramahansa Yogananda, as some forum members may already be familiar with.  Typically, people are required to be initiated into Kriya Yoga by a guru, whereupon the techniques would then be disclosed.  Now the information is being offered free from the bondage of tradition...

The title says it all.  I was just simply wondering if anyone knows whether staring at a candle flame can damage vision.  I tried googling it but I came up with hardly any results.  Any and all comments appreciated.

Thanks.

Keep in mind, also, that meditation does not have to so defined i.e. the act of breathing deeply, while sitting in an erect position, etc.  This process is not necessarily practical for a novice to meditation.  Try meditating throughout the day; perhaps, for example, while doing the dishes or walking outside.  And most importantly, meditate your own way.  You are already on the right path when you suggested envisioning your analytical mind flowing out of your feet.  I think it is important to also realize that not everyone can connect with guides, especially if the mind is in turmoil.  Is it that you seek absolute proof of the after-life?

I understand all-too-well the thought of the apparent pointlessness of life, but life is the reality and as such, it is important to simply "be."  Searching externally for meaning, also resonates strongly with me, but one should not strive for that - strive for resolution in yourself and not in hope that someone else can help you.  And when it comes down to it, the meaning of life, after all, is that YOU are living.  What can you do about it?

Hello,

I am sorry to hear about your problems.  Let me first say, speaking from personal experience, that even if you were to not be proactive in seeking a remedy for your woes, the passage of time will eventually shed things in a new light and things will look better.  It may seem improbable or impossible, for I too have felt the bottom (for an ever greater duration than 8 months) and I truly felt and believed that I would be "trapped" in that state forever - it is certainly not pleasant.

I find it most important, when in such situations or mental states, to work on oneself and not necessarily or primarily seek external means to solve one's problems.  External means are important, don't get me wrong, such as surrounding oneself with good friends, being outside, etc...but the real salvation lies within.  What does that mean and how do you it?  I found, as time went on, I began to analyze my thoughts and attempted to not indulge by thinking negatively about myself or the situation I was in.  But I tried to do it naturally by relaxing and just let everything happen and I sought solace in the silence between my thoughts.  I became aware that just like muscles, the mind can have tension too and I tried to relax it and throughout every day I tried to be in the here and now.  I had read such advice / teachings beforehand in various books but I never truly embraced the reality or profundity of such practices up until that point.

I also chose to make affirmations, such as the decision to live and to try not to take things too seriously.  And also, to view life in the light that there IS something after death and that I am living NOW.  Strive to realize that, really think about yourself and search internally for the solution to your distress.

I do agree with the tenet that the purpose of life is what people are able to ultimately realize.  My purpose is to be content.  I say this because I believe society en masse is toxic.  From the moment we are born, we are indoctrinated with materialistic ideals and are bombarded by excessive sexual content courtesy of the corporate world and media.  As a result, the conceptual understanding of love, happiness, success, spirituality, etc has been co-opted.  Governments and (some) religions, lest we forgot, are equally as responsible for contributing to this "mess" and have been responsible for much of the violence and deception that exists in the world today.  This negative atmosphere can contribute greatly to the mental states of all people, whether they choose to acknowledge it or not.  I feel, therefore, to be able to find oneself and to know oneself and to be content with oneself amidst this chaos is paramount to life.  In retrospect, in viewing my life thus far, I realize I took myself too seriously - and for what?  In the end, I got angry, I was self-conscious to the extreme, etc.

But is their TRULY meaning to it all?  I believe ultimately the answer is no, there is no meaning, their is only "is-ness."  I observed above, someone referring to the universe and life as an accident.  How can that be so, I ask, if that IS the reality?

I would implore anyone interested in this subject to refer to this page: http://www.taroscopes.com/astro-theology/astro-theology3.html
Search for the word "pentagram" in your browser until you are a little beyond half way down the page; perhaps this will clear up any misunderstandings.

Flannery,

I have just discovered that the Hurley/Osborne technique is also referred to as Spinal Touch. It is my understanding that the main procedure was developed by John Hurley as discussed in his book(s) Aquarian Age Healing. The Spinal Touch website is: www.spinaltouchtreatment.com  The procedure involves pinpointing sensitive areas on the back via a light touch and marking the points with a small sticker. The goal is to desensitize these areas via the parasympathetic nervous system by lightly touching trigger points on the buttox with one hand and touching the sensitive areas on the back again with the other hand (should you or anyone be interested in this information).

As for my appointment, I honestly do not know if it works (my condition remained unchanged). My suspicion is, however, like yours in that I believe it would indeed likely take many many treatments for there to be any noticable difference/improvment.

Unrelated to the techniqie above, I have discovered yet another approach towards treating scoliosis and/or any other of a variety of diseases via a device called S.C.E.N.A.R. (Self-Controlled-Energo-Neuro-Adaptive-Regulation). Essentially this small electrical device is a biofeedback machine that enters into a communication dialogue with your brain/body via the skin. Purportedly, the device was developed in Russia during the space race as a means to treat cosmonauts and remained classified since 1986 or so. I am not entirely sure how the device operates but I believe it is capable of recognizing asymmetries in the human energy field and stimulate the body to correct these asymmetries by mimicking nerve impulses instructing the body to correct itself. I had the pleasure today of being a guinea pig to a small group of students who were finishing their advanced certification for operating the device. Moreover, in one session my spine was visibly straighter, my hip which was one inch higher on one side (consequently causing one leg to be 1/2 inch longer) became level and my shoulder blades were also level.  I am thoroughly impressed by this device and in my opinion, it would be worthwhile to google S.C.E.N.A.R. for more information.

Hmm.  I have recently withdrawn and read the Quantum-Touch book from my local library.  Suffice it to say, I could have re-written the relevant technique in approximately five pages.  The book primarly provides anecdotal stories as evidence for the miracles and efficacy of Quantum-Touch and incessantly repeats various aspects of the technique throughout it's chapters.  The Quantum-Touch technique is highly reminiscent of NEW by Robert Bruce in that involves the stimulation of the energy body coupled with deep breathing.  It may indeed work, who knows, as I have yet to try it.  However, I must admit than I am highly critical of the "certified practitioners" who charge $75 an hour for a largely untested "faith science."  That is to say, I believe because of it's lack of history and verifiable proof, a more modest price would be practical.

Flannery, I stumbled across another alternative treatment for scoliosis, should you be interested.  The treatment is called the "Hurley/ Osborn Technique" and more information can be found here: http://www.hurleyosborn.com/index.html  I have an appointment tomorrow and shall post about my take on it.

I suffer from scoliosis (abnormal spinal curvature) and while doing a google search on natural approaches to treating the disorder I came across "Quantum-Touch" healing.  Admittantly, I rather dislike the name as it comes across a bit new-age'ish to me and it could very well be a scam...

The website is: http://www.quantumtouch.com/

Straight from the site, "the Quantum-Touch practitioner learns to focus and amplify life-force energy, which is most often referred to as "Chi" or "Prana". This is accomplished by combining various breathing and body awareness exercises. When the practitioner holds a high vibrational field of life-force energy around an affected area, through a process of resonance and entrainment, the client naturally matches the vibration of the practitioner, allowing one's own biological intelligence to do whatever healing it deems necessary."

Any opinions?  Thanks in advance.

I just thought I would drop this link here to a neat, free and legal book on the fundementals of Zen meditation that I came across: http://rapidshare.de/files/8553737/Fundamentals_of_Zen_Meditation.pdf.html
