Dreaming while being conscious IS lucid dreaming. I didn't have an OBE yet, but I often hear that it's not compareable to a dream. I believe that I was often about to leave my body, I could feel leaving it but I wasn't asleep, I didn't have katalepsy, but I was very very relaxed. I was aware of my body, I just didn't think much about it. Whether it is paranormal or not is a matter of definition. If the soul REALLY leaves the body during OBEs, then, is this paranormal? If we could prove that there is a soul, that it can leave the body - wouldn't it rather turn into something natural? Paranormal phenomenoms right now are all things science cannot explain. There are scientists doing research on OBEs and NDEs - their results though don't satisfy me. Especially NDEs are mysterious because there's a recorded NDE where a woman was having a brain-operation: This means that she was connected to an EEG and EKG of course. The doctors cooled her body down to 16°C I believe - the EEG was a flat line and that's when she was having an NDE. In that state she's dead. There are several NDE theories which cannot explain that special NDE - though, there are other theories: For example, the EEG cannot measure everything, so maybe her brain was still, quietly, working. We don't know ... anyways, what I'm trying to say is: If you can explain it, it's something which really exists and which thus is "normal" ... and not "paranormal".

I really want to experience an OBE, but food deprivation over a long time isn't good for me. I don't HAVE to have an OBE, I just WANT it. I don't need results immediately and even if it takes longer without food deprivation, then I don't care because I'm not living to have an OBE - it's a very interesting phenomenon but shouldn't weaken me in my everyday life. It's somewhat absurd not to sleep much and not to eat much for an out of body experience.

I tried today before going to bed on my couch. I was tired and sleepy and sat up but my upper body was in a reclined position. I started relaxing fine but after about 15 minutes my muscles started toughening up and I wanted to stretch so badly! I couldnt sit still and got frustrated and said screw it so I got up and went to bed. This is almost the same thing that happens when I am laying down on my back. Maybe this calls for more drastic measures to loosen or un-anchor the soul from the physical such as fasting and sleep deprivation. Maybe sleep deprivation is the key for me because when I go without sleep for long periods I start to have very minor hallucinations and weird sh*t starts happening. From the old days of long World of Warcraft sessions lol! :)

Those hallucinations are nothing mystical x) They're the result of sleep deprivation. Similar to sensory deprivation: If you're in a completely dark room, if you're floating (let's imagine you can float, but not move), if you cannot hear anything because there's no sound, if you cannot taste or cannot smell anything, then you feel absolutely nothing. The brain isn't used to this and then starts its hallucination-programme: You start seeing things that aren't there, you start hearing sounds, you start feeling things etc.

Sensory deprivation sounds very logical - in fact, it might explain OBE in a boring, yet scientific way (I prefer the explanation that it's actually the soul that is leaving the body), but I don't see how food deprivation can have any effect on it.... in fact, I believe it might be a psychological one: If you firmly believe that it helps, then it might help you because you believe it's easier then. I know that inducing an out of body experience isn't easy, but I'm working on it. I never had an out of body experience before, but I already dare disagreeing with some things I'm reading on this forum: Food deprivation is one of them. I know that you can induce an OBE without being hungry. Maybe it really has an effect and does make things easier, though I doubt that. What I'm trying to do is inducing an OBE before going to sleep (without lucid dreams). It might be hard, but I will try it because I know that it will be easy once I have results. (:

I recommend the book "Adventures Beyond the Body" by William Buhlman. In this book, Buhlman describes his first OBEs and then describes what he experienced in the astral planes. In the second part, he tries to find scientific explanations (such as the Multiverse theory). In the last part he describes his technique to leave the body. The book gives you a good insight into the matter, it's like a manual really x) I didn't have an OBE yet, but if I have one, then I'll know what to do (and what I should avoid).

Thanks for the replies! I'll keep trying that then and see what will happen (:

your website looks interesting.  i'd like to check it out too, if i may.

i've thought of writing a book on my many astral projection experiences, but i've struggled whether or not people are really interested in that sort of thing nowadays.  most people who i mention it to don't really understand it or don't believe in it.
That'd be great! Not only people who know OBEs buy such books, but also those who don't. Most books have a blurb and if someone's interested, then they might buy it. I found out about OBEs around 2 years ago on Wikipedia I believe. 1 year ago I bought and read a book by William Buhlman. His book was about his experiences, the results of his research in the astral planes (he was playing scientist, creating theories etc.) and some techniques. I really enjoyed reading his experiences simply because the astral planes and the things that happen there are just so different. The existance of " guides" is especially interesting and all those special places he visited (his soul itself, and a room flooded with bright light, love and warmth etc.). I believe many other people would be interested as well :)

Sleep/Food deprivation ... xP I really want to have an OBE, but I believe that this is too extreme, even if it works x)

Welcome to Out of Body Experiences! / Blankets!

Once again a weird question x) If I'm lying in bed, covered by a blanket: Is it harder to induce an OBE that way? And what if I only cover my feet?

Another question: Is it easier to get out if I have my eyes opened or closed?

You don't need vibrations. Lately, when trying to have my first OBE as well, I also get super relaxed and now the newest experience is single body party drifting out of my body. I did hear buzzing sounds a few times, but only for a few seconds. I also had vibrations, but they weren't that strong. You have to relax your body even more, then you will keep your motivation a bit. If you relax even further, you will reach a very interesting state of mind which feels weird as your body is cold, you don't feel it anymore.. rather, you feel that it's more like a cage or something like that. Just keep on working. You should also concentrate on what you currently feel, this helps me relax even further. You shouldn't think much or get annoyed, you should just try it and if it doesn't work, try it again and again.

I need help. When I'm relaxing and am really far already, I sometimes (just now it happened again. I was bored so I tried to induce an OBE while the TV was running.) start to feel weirdly. I stop feeling my body, but then it feels so... heavy and I feel like I'm something IN this body, I don't feel that I -am- the body. The weird thing is: Sometimes when I'm really relaxed, a random body part twitches. The problem is following: This weird, even more relaxed state which feels "strong".. it happened twice already: During the first time, my foot started to move upwards, the right foot. It was so strange that I jumped up because I wasn't prepared. If you imagine the soul as a ghost inside the physical body, then it felt like I was the soul, and my soul-foot was moving out of my physical foot. I could feel the physical foot touching my soul-foot as it was moving upwards. The same thing just happened with my right hand, but when I was thinking about it, that it was moving, it stopped. Am I mistaken? Is this really my hand or foot twitching while I'm so relaxed that I no longer feel my body (which even starts to feel very cold)? My "joker" is that the twitching is usually a fast and sudden move, but the raising foot/hand was slower. While the twitching takes less than 1/4 of a second, the rising of my foot/hand wasn't a fast move, but it was ... medium-speed. I'd say it lasted for a bit more than a second.

Is this wishful thinking that I'm really leaving my body? Is it a twitching muscle? Or is it my spirit leaving my body? I mean, if you're leaving your body, does your whole body move at the same time? Or is it also possible that it starts with one body part?  When I stop trying to induce an OBE when I'm really really relaxed, I feel strange. My body is cold, for the first few seconds everything feels weird and strange. I stand up, and feel weird. I am also somewhat dizzy.

So yeah, that are my symptoms. Am I on the right track?

This topic is too dangerous. We can discuss whether it's possible or not (I believe it's not possible) but trying it is simply too dangerous because: What if it really DOES work? What do you then? You'd have a new body, be a "new person". What do you do then? Maybe you'll never get your old body back...
Again, I really doubt this is possible, but I find it idiotic to risk it.

I mean, look at the Flat Earth Society.
On their website they say that they're just kidding, but I'm rather sure that there are people who really do believe it... their ignorance is a crime.

I didn't have an astral projection myself yet, but one night ago I could feel my foot coming out although my heart was also beating fast. I believe that this really doesn't matter as long as you don't get distracted by it.

Sounds scary... The Kundalini is really fascinating, but it sounds too dangerous :/ I doubt I'll ever try to open my chakras or anything because guides probably charge money too and.. I am not sure whether the Kundalini and Chakras really exist. Right now I do believe into it, somewhat, but, you know, there's this thought in the back of my mind that I might be wasting my money.. and even if I'm not, then getting used to the Kundalini sounds like a torture itself.

That's ridiculous O.o

I didn't have an OBE yet ( but one night ago I actually felt my foot coming out! ... this experience frightened me somewhat because it was so sudden and then it was over again xP), but anyways, I honestly doubt that anyone does anything bad and I also doubt APers can harm other people. I believe it's more like bein a travel in the physical word  with the difference that astral projecting is for free and traveling to new planes doesn't take hours.
#18
As far as I know it doesn't mean anything.

I know, I already read that it can be really dangerous. I read about a guy who was doing it and then suddenly started vomiting blood or similar things untill he asked his teacher or so for help (he already had one, luckily).

On several websites I have read that the Kundalini is connected to OBEs, is this true? While doing my exercises, I started to believe in this because of the similarity. For example, after a while, all of a sudden, my heart starts to beat very fast (yet I am neither moving, nor scared or anything). I can only explain this with the Kundalini and Chakras. There also are other examples, one being this weird, calm feeling after trying (and failing xP) to induce an OBE. I feel very calm and my mind is generally very sharp. So, is the Kundalini somehow connected to OBEs? Or is this just coincidence?

Welcome to Out of Body Experiences! / Getting out
November 12, 2008, 10:14:32
I have read the faq's, saying you need years using meditation... but well, I am so far already that I want to continue this, lying in my bed without moving, trying to induce an oobe. I have read the book "out of body" by William Buhlman and was practicing his technique for about a month, often getting into the vibrational state but then I usually stopped due to being scared.

Now, months later, I started again with the difference that I do it before sleeping with similar results. This time though I'm not scared anymore. First my body gets numb, then maybe I feel prickling, later vibrations. I believe I'm near leaving my body already, but I don't know how to get out. If I try really hard, I end up noticing that I'm using muscles (although it feels more like my astral body moving because I no longer feel my physical body). This night I tried something new, not trying to get out like before, but simply "feeling" my "new body". The result was that, with every breath, my body felt heavier. Then after a minute or 2, I felt very very heavy. I have no idea whether this is the right thing to do or not. My question is:
What do I have to do to leave my body?

a.) Really try to fly upwards?
b.) Not directly "try" but "feeling" my body, hoping that I'll end up leaving my body without doing much.
c.) In a my mind is very awake. I always KNOW about my physical body and sometimes I have to swallow. Should I not concentrate on anything but simply stay in this special state (vibrations, numbness, prickling ... this night I even felt soft "swings" to the left - right - left - right - left - right - stop. Few seconds later agian..".) so my mind possibly forgets what I'm doing or what's happening?
d.) Something else?

I know that you don't need a year to leave your body via meditation, I read about people who left their body this way after 1 or 2 months and I am sure I can also do this. I am really glad I found this website because, if I know what to do, I feel more like I'm doing the right thing without wasting a thought on "am I doing this wrong? Am I wasting my time?". I can imagine you get similar questions very often, but I started a new topic anyways because I wonder whether any of the options I can think of are right or whether I have to do something different. So, what do I have to do? :x
