Prophazuh - thanks for your response.  I will definitely work on not getting distracted by my swallowing and focus on shifting my point of awareness outside my body.

Stookie - thank you for the link.  Ashes' article was extremely insightful.  He/She addresses the swallowing issue and really does a great job describing this initial stage of AP.  The article was really helpful to me.

In an effort to astral project, I focus on relaxing my body and mind as much as possible.  Eventually, my arms and legs begin to feel heavy, then the rest of my body – as if my body is being pressed very firmly into the recliner.  In other words, it feels as though I am hyper-sensitive to gravity.

As I observe this quality of heaviness, I begin to feel my point of consciousness being disassociated from my physical body.  It feels almost like the locality of my consciousness/awareness becomes concentrated right in my head.  At times, it also feels like I can almost oscillate my awareness between a state of a single concentrated point in my head or a state of expansiveness, ie having no locality.

I continue to simply observe and try and remain relaxed – however, I do feel that my head never reaches the same relaxation of my body because I notice I tend to swallow, voluntarily, every once in a while, and I know I can open my eyes if I want to.  Does this mean I have not reached a deep enough trance to achieve astral projection?

I understand that to AP, we essentially need to be physiologically asleep while at the same time aware or conscious that we are sleeping - so have I reached this point?  Or am I not going into a deep enough trance?  Am I close?

I have attempted to use a projection method at this point and it does not work.  I believe my waking consciousness never fully converts to the etheric body, but I am unsure.

Any recommendations or thoughts are greatly appreciated.
