Fellow Travelers,

Do sleeping positions effect OBEs?  When ever I roll over on to my back while I am a sleep, I have night mares. If I try to fall asleep while on my back, my brain will not turn it'self off to let me sleep.  I always sleep on my stomach or on my side.  Because I have problems sleeping on my back, I wonder if this makes it difficult to project while in trance or just to project in general?  Any ideas?

Fellow Travelers,

I have been practicing Astral Projection for about 9 months I guess.  I have been using the alarm clock method to project.   About 4 in the morning the clock goes off, I read for about 30 minutes and then go back to sleep.  About an hour later, the vibrations hit, I roll over and fly out my window.  Once outside my window, the world that I know seems to be ok, but many things are either in the wrong place, or seem to not make sense.  I have ended up at peoples's houses that I haven't seen for years and sometimes just strange things happen.  When I first started this method, the vibrations were like a freight train rushing through my head, but now they are merely a hum or a buzz or just a feeling.  I'm wondering if not having enough energy iis causing weak vibrations and therefor weak journeys? It always starts off as an astral projection, because I am totally aware of what is going on, but then things alway seem to get weird.  Am I  just lucid dreaming, or am I projecting or a combination of both?  The age old question.

Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated.

                     Sincerely,

I hope that somebody can help me out with what has been transpiring lately. Getting to the trance method is no problem, but the trance stage has been about as far as I can get. Instead, I started setting my alarm clock about 2 hours prior to getting up. The alarm goes off and I read for about thirty minutes and then go back to sleep. The vibrations come, I roll over out of my body and fly out the window. I have become used to the feeling of the vibrations now and when thy come roll over and start my journeys. Lately I have been questioning the authenticity of my projections. Am I projecting or am I just waliking into a lucid dream? There have been times when I have ended up at my Dad's house and have been talking to him. It would be ok if he was dead, but he isn't dead yet. So I tend to question, was I dreaming or projecting? Everytime I get up out of my body, it is very difficult to see. I ask for clarity but nothing happens. I have to ask for clarity about three of four times before anyting happens. Once I fly out my window, my vision tends to be crystal clear, but I am always in a place that I don't recognize. I have read Buhlman's book Adventures out of the Body, and he always left while he was asleep. I seem to identify with the things that he says. But then I question him as well, was he just lucid dreaming as well. He never did any chakra work or energy work.

I hope some one can shed some light, I'm really confused. I hope that all my projections haven't been lucid dreams. I also have to ask myself, does it really matter if I had a lucid dream or projected.

Cheers,
Spencer

Hey Risu,

Everybody uses the word "vibrations" because that is the closest word to the actual feeling that we can come up with.  You have probably already felt them before you just weren't aware of them at the time.  For me sometimes it is as if a freight train is running through my head with energy running through my body.  Other times it is just a light hum.  But it is always a very heavy feeling in my head.  It is as if someone put a brick in my head and I can't lift it off my pillow because it is too heavy.

Quite the interest in Japanese.  Gambatte ne!

Dear Frank,
Thanks for the advice.  It have given me something to look forward to.  How long did it take you to overcome the antsyness of laying on your back?

You have given me new hope.

#8
Frank,
Even though you are laying down in a comfortable position, after a period of time do you get that antsy feeling to change positions?

Hey Scott,

I agree, I have been using the CD's off and on, and they are really good at teaching you about trance states.  But that is as far as I  have gotten.  I haven't been able to project with them.

After i am awake for thirty minutes, I just simply try and fall back to sleep.  I don't do anything.  when the vibrations hit, they startle me or wake me up, and then from there I just get up like we do everyday of our lives.  Maybe you should try setting your alarm clock earlier.  I don't try any breathing exercises our AP exercises at all.

Dear Quant,

I would be very happy to help you.  My usual wake up time is about 7:00 in the morning.  I usually set my alarm clock for about 4:00 a.m.  When it goes off, I wake up, go to the bath room, get something to drink, reset my alarm clock for the normal waking time and do something for about thirty minutes, usually read or play video games.  Then at around 4:30 I try and go back to sleep.  Usually my sleep pattern is disrupted and it takes about an hour to an hour and a half to fall back to sleep.  When I fall back to sleep, the vibrations hit and almost startle me.  From then I just either roll over, stand up and fly out my window.

I stumbled on to this method one night after going to the bathroom and not being able to go back to sleep.  The vibrations hit me like a freight train and I felt energy running throughout my body.  I tried the trance method many times but never got any further than the trance.  The alarm clock method has been most effective for me.  When I first started using it, I did it for about three nights in a row, and then my body got used to change in sleep pattern and the vibrations stopped coming.  I layed off for a couple of weeks and allowed my normal sleep patterns to come back.  Lately I have been using the alarm clock method again, and everything is fine.
I hope that this information helps you.  If you try it, please let me know how it went.

Dear Psi,
It is great to meet you as well.  Thanks for the reply.  You have helped to shed some light on a puzzling problem that I have had for some time.  I have had a lot of problems with energy work.  I started off doing the Monroe CD's for a while and hit the trance easy, but that was always as far as I got.  Then I stumbled on to the alarm clock one night, and since then I have been using that method.  When using the CD's, Monroe has you do a series of humming or singing exercises know as "Resonate Tunning."  And then he has you take that energy and has you make an imaginary energy balloon in which the energy continues to flow into you, out of you and all around you.  I am wondering if these exercises are used to open one's chakras.  I don't know if you are familar with the Monroe CD's or not.  I really enjoyed the humming or sining exercises that Monroe uses.  Any ideas?

I bought the Gateway series of CD's.  I first started out listening to them for awhile.  Even though I wasn't able to project with them I still learned alot from them, such as the trace state and energy work. I think that if you look around on the net, talk to people and read books, you will be able to find what you need.

Dear Qui-Gonn Jinn,
You are right the times that we are out, like dead aslep, we aren't aware of anything.  But there are times such as we roll over onto our back or side that for a second or two we become aware.  Our mind is really hazy and fuzzy, but at that time take notice of how your head feels. We usually turn over and then fall fast hard asleep again.  Also there have been times that when the vibrations do come, they usually wake my mind up. And that point I am able to project.

I hope that what I am saying makes sense. For the most part of the night until about 5:00 in the morning, I'm out, sound asleep.  It is in the early morning that I notice the vibrations or how heavy my head feels.

P.S.  Beautiful quotes.

       Cheers,
     Spencer

Dear Sphere,
Like you I'm new to the art of astral projection.  And like you I get as far as the trance and then that it is it. Recently, I have had some really cool break throughs.  Every time I managed to project, I was never on my back.  My most comfortable position is on my stomach.  When I was I my stomach the vibrations came, and I rolled over and got up out of my body.  Everytime that I have projected, has been when I use my alarm clock set about 4:30 in the morning or like last night, I manage to keep feel the change in consciousness when I am sleeping.  When I think that I can project, I try.  There are other ways to get the vibrations.  Don't get discouraged.  Every time that I have tried to go into a trance laying on my back nothing happens, just the trance.  Also ever since I was a child, if I roll over onto my back, I have nightmares. I don't think laying on my back is the needed position for every one. Try laying down on the position that is most comfortable to you.  Usually when everybody projects, they have basically one thing in common.  They are usually being the sleep cycle to project.  When you sleep, play close attention to your thoughts and the way your body feels, especially around the time before you wake up.

I hope that I was able to shed some light on the subject.

         Cheers,
        Spencer
