You say that you have experienced this state by slowing your normal projection process down.  It seems reasonable to assume that in your  normal projection process you are presented with these visons as well but at a much faster rate.  Perhaps these visions are areas of the astral that are being presented to you for your consideration and normally another part of you is making the choice as to the destination, rather than your conscious mind.

By slowing the process down, you may have tuned into a sort of astral preview channel.  If any of the visions pique your interest, you can then investigate them further in a pseudo-projection and then finally, fully project into one.  I guess the test for this would be to continue the process all the way through and see if the vision destination is the same as the full projection destination.

Here's the thing...say I find Osama, people will not believe me.  Nobody is going to send in the troops or even one man to go look because someone says they found Osama in an out of body experience.  Even if somehow you convince people to look where you say and they find him, it will not blow the lids off the phenomenon.  At most it will end up as a little blurb in some book of incredible facts...maybe next to the accounts of raining frogs that have been reported throughout history.

To me it seems more like the voices and sounds are a barrier that you have to overcome rather than something trying to coax you into an oobe.  Overcoming fear seems to me to play a large part in success and growth.

As far as the radio thing goes, I used to actually think it was a radio.  I would think to myself, "Why do people always turn up the radio nextdoor when I am trying to have an OBE?"  I eventually realized that there was no radio on anywhere nearby.

I have heard the angel chorus myself once.  I don't remember any specific word being sung, just the sound of the voices singing.  This singing seemed to me to be coming from a specific direction, not just inside my head.  I've also heard mumbling voices and what seemed like a radio.   One sound that always freaks me out a little is the sound of footsteps in the hall outside my bedroom.
