Welcome to Magic! / Re: levitation
November 04, 2006, 21:26:22
I tried to levitate after eating a load of beans, and I hurt my head on the ceiling fan.

I have all 42 CDs of the Gateway series, and, while finding them helpful in some ways, I have not had any OBE experiences.   I am considering starting them all over from the beginning, hoping that somehow that might help me.

That being which is abstract to you is personal and real to them.   When and if you get to know that "being" you will be able to call Him "Father".

Welcome to Metaphysics! / Crystal Pyramid

I had a similar experience except it was a ball shaped crystal.

Yes, I do chastize myself sometimes; ever eat too much and then skip desserts for a few days to "teach yourself a lesson"?  Etc.

AyrKnight:  ref your post....you have no clue as to what the Bible says; in fact,  you found the opposite!  Please don't become a judge or detective when you grow up!  LOL

Unfortunately, the church (which means individuals) is composed of sinners saved by grace, but still able to sin in the current state.  This means there are a lot of bad ones, and a lot of good ones.  Keep looking for the good ones and don't dwell on the bad ones.
We pray for you.

God is both mercy and justice.  In other words, he will chastize his people if he thinks we need it, out of love for us.

"Every knee shall bow...."

Yahweh is more than just pure love; He is also pure justice.   God doesn't love sin, and this includes those not His people, such as Hitler.  Sorry to bring you back to reality.
Children don't have to learn sin; they inherit it.  I see children sin all the time, including babies.  When they don't get their way, they cry.  That's sin, aka:  selfishness manifest in the flesh.   Get real.

I think the problem some of you have is that you base your views of Christians on the wierdos often seen on the tube.  Get into a real church and you might be surprised.

Sorry; it was a WAY too long post.  I fell asleep myslef just typing it!
Coupled with the 3 second attention span MTV generation types,  it probably won't get read by most.  But, hey, there was no good place to end it....

A person gets baptized to be obedient to Scriptures, where we are told to "repent and be baptized".  Jesus even was baptized, to set the example for us.  Baptism (immersion, which is what the transliterated Greek word means) is a type of going down into the water and getting our sins symbolically washed away, and coming up a new creature.  See Romans, about chapter 6 or so.

You don't have to get baptised to get into heaven;  if you would have to get baptised, which is a "work", this would mean that you would be saved by works, which is not Bible teaching.  Saved by grace, and not by works, lest any man boast.

Ryan, I think much of the confusion on some of the posts on this topic have to do with not quite understanding our relationship to the Lord.
The reason we believe in God is easily shown through His creation.  Look at the many colors and patterns in, say, flowers.  You can easily see a designer involved.  Look at the animal kingdom; one example I have used before is the giraffe...being very tall, they should blow out their brains with excessive blood pressure every time they bend over to eat something on the ground....they don't, because of a very complicated valving in their necks, so as to equalize blood pressure.  Is this an accident?  Ha      Evolution?  They wouldn't have survived past the first one; besides, where does this "evolution" guy get his blueprint for the valves?   One has to be a fool to not believe in the existence of God.  Heck, even Satan believes!

The Bible, plus common sense, teaches that we are all "dead in sin", and that only the Lord can give us spiritual life.  Being dead (spiritually), our pride wants us to expect an obedient God to explain all things to us, so that we may consider serving him.   Ha Ha
We are the creation, not the creator....God doesn't owe us squat.  Then, what's this stuff about heaven, if we are all doomed through our sins?  A very quick summary follows:

Man can't enter a perfect Heaven due to sin.  God wanted to save some of us.  What to do?
Due to subsitutionary atonement, God came to earth through Jesus, and led a perfect life, and then, through a little bartering, exchanged this perfect life for the sinful ones of His people, thereby enabling some of us to end up in Heaven.

Who are the "some of us "?  Well, that's where it gets a little blurry; basically God chose some, in spite of our sin and our not desiring to follow Him, to be His children.  At some point in the life of every child of God, we get a new spirit, the Holy Spirit.  At that moment, our spiritual eyes and ears are open, and we experience this new birth, which often takes the form of a struggle within....a holy spirit in this corrupt flesh?  Quite a struggle at times.
From this point, when we are mere babes, we strive to learn more of Him, and grow.

Don't forget that sinful body which still is in us.....sometimes we actually go backwards (check out David, for ex.).  Once we realize what a gift we have been given, in spite of ourselves, not because we did something to please God, we are changed.  Our desires are not the same; we have different "want to's".  Plus, the ones who blast God think it's all a big fake deal....they just don't get it.

You can seperate all religons into 2 general groups....the first group thinks that, if we do the "right" things, God owes us one, and he winks and smiles and gives us a ticket to Heaven.  Most of the world, including God's people, believe this.  You can see it in every faith from Bhuddism, etc. through about 90% of christanity.  Just different works, but the exact same mentality.  This, of course, does not mean that the individuals are being insincere in any way....they just don't know any better, because they haven't been taught.

The second group realizes we are saved completely by the grace of God, again....in spite of our works, not because of them....  I am not connected in any way with this website, but check out www.pb.org, among others, for deeper insight.

Of course, I don't mean to say that a child of God continues to sin as before; that would be bad fruit, and we are told to be fruit inspectors...."by their fruits ye shall know them"...

Generally speaking, if you run across someone honestly struggling to want to please God, worried if they are "good enough" etc....they are probably already a child of God, for without having their spiritual senses turned on, why would they even care?   Only God can make this one "born again".

Just think for a minute....what can we do to facilitate our natural birth?  Nothing at all.  The new baby cries out AFTER being born, not to get born, but because he already is!
In the same way, you can't do anything to earn your second (spritual) birth, but, once born again, you cry out, seeking God.   That's why the term "born again" is used.  Think about it.

For what it's worth.

Dittos to Alpha/O's message.  Let's see....if "false prophet" is indeed false, then what he proclaims by deduction is that Christanity is the true and faithful way.  Darn, I knew that had to be it, because even Satan believes in God.

Seriously, if falsie takes this much time on a Modern Christanity site, I imagine he is under conviction and trying to seek to walk in the Light.  We pray for him.

You can either believe the Bible or just pick and choose.  You would not be convinced if the Lord himself payed you a personal visit and told you that homosexuality is deviant, wrong behaviour.

We all have sins; we are all sinners.  It is how you deal with sin which indicates if you have he spirit of God in you.  Everyone does not have the spirit in him.  If you are truly seeking the Lord's will, and feel convicted of sin, that's a good indication you have the spirit of God.

Perhaps some day you will be more spiritual regarding this matter, and seek wisdom from the Lord.  You will be in my prayers.

There are many variations on end times interpretations in the Christian community.  The most popular now is the PREmillenial, which basically says that prophecies should be interpreted literally as much as possible; the POSTmillenial is an older view, and the Amillenial is the view that, when a prophecy has been fulfilled spiritually there is no need for seeking a literal interp.

Most of the guys on TV are pre-mils.  They are the ones who are with Israel always in everything, since they believe the Jews will "make a comeback".  Amils, like this guy, know that the children of God are "spiritual Israel", and the physical nation of Israel has nothing to look forward to, since they rejected the Messiah, or are actually still looking for him.  Amils and Premils don't get along too well.

Sorry for the quick overview, but hope it might slightly help at least someone.

One

PS:  Many Christians don't accept the teaching that the Children of God are not all registered Christians, but the Bible plainly teaches this historical truth.  Real Christianity is actually quite liberal in this way.

I'm not sure why some say to seek God by looking within, we are all god, etc....that is the lie of the devil.

We have an "owners manual"....it is the Bible....we are NOT supposed to do what seems right, feels good within, etc....if it contradicts the Bible.  The Lord knew we would do this, and that's why He gave us the written word.

We have a built in programming to want to be as God, equal to, etc. etc. from our sinful nature.

The moslems and some other non-christian groups recognize Jesus as a prophet of God, (one of a line of prophets) but not as God.  Jesus said He was God in flesh....that's why the Jews, working out God's plan, had Him crucified.  He was either God, or a liar, but never just another prophet.

Let's face it....homosex is deviant behavior, both physically and spiritually.
Just because someone thinks up to 20% of animals are queers (I doubt it) doesn't make humans any less responsible for their sins.
#19
God is spirit; neither male nor female.   He is referred to as male, because the male was first....the female came from the male.
This doesn't make women inferior to men; they are equal.  In the spiritual chain of command, women are to obey their husbands, and husbands to obey the Lord.
The male is always one step, humanly speaking only, above the woman.

While Islam does say Jesus is just a prophet, Jesus said He was God; that is why the Jews turned on Him...for blasphemy.
Jesus is either God, or He is a liar.  He can't be just anothr prophet.  Of course, the reserrection proved that He was indeed God.

As Ben Frankliln said to his homosexual cousin, "You didn't get a round mouth like that by eating square meals"...
#22
Right on.  There is a time to pray, and a time to get up and get on with it.  That's what the Lord told Joshua anyway, and it makes common sense also.

If more Christians got involved with things this would be a better place to hang out.

The Bible says it's inspired; that's why I say it is.  It is easily proven by fulfilled prophecy.  Easy money.

In the screw topic, I'll take a babe.
#24
Xander, I am sure hetros can control their cravings, but as we all know, many don't.  They are just as guilty of sin in that way as are the deviant groups.
#25
Gand,  isn't it convenient how you deny inspired writings of God, and attribute them to men when it suits you.

My god has the ability to "breathe" his words through his creation.
You should study up on this subject just a bit.
