Go to bed early..very early and go to sleep. Affirmations to be conscious in your dreams..remember your dreams..obe etc..without fail I think i can gaurantee you have a verty good chance of having at least a lucid dream...

Little wonder it is called a "astral" body.......a few times have seen it sparkling like a milion tiny stars..at other times..lower energy..more "cloudy"..also "elongating astral limbs" seems to be an interesting diversion.:-)))

Dave..just relax if you can when initial  things happen..it is the most mind blowing thing to have your first astral projection.
There is an ordinary dream - no control.
There isa Lucid dream -you are aware you are dreaming in a dream/astral environment and have total control in that environment..
There is an OBE in the "real" physical world/dimension where you are aware of eg your physical body..everyday physicalenvironment...

I have projected a lot..usually on waking up from lying on my back.BUt I always go to sleep on my side.Hope you enjoy the Monroe experience..i was there a few years ago since i admire Monroe's effortsand OBE books..but it did not succeed for me..i felt that most folks were buls***ing about their alleged experiences..

Hey Dude(take a sad song and make it better)..
You could try the Koestler Institute and/or "Chair" of parapsychology at Edinburgh University. They are headed by Dr Robert Morris who is very interested in OBE research.

Welcome to Out of Body Experiences! / Joining IAC
September 28, 2005, 15:02:52
Not sure what it would cost in USA..probablyabout $75 a year basic membership..for this you get information re courses and perodical 4 times annually...the courses are realtively cheap and you can re take them until you shed your mortal coil free of charge.some good books by Waldo Vieria too......they have a lot of volunteer workers..so they are not out to make money..very altruistic group of folks in my personal experience..
#7
Their energy raising methods are great as are facial clairvoyance sessions.I and many others have seen many spirit beings during this..the OBE methods are probably known to most of us but they do them intensly.I would thoroughly recommend joining the IAC as i did some years ago....only thing i have against the programmes is that their literature can attempt to be to much in the "scientific" foramt ..but that is personal bias on my part..everything else they do is truly cosmoethical and well intentioned.

I am a member of the IAC and have been to most of the courses..I would thoroughly recommend them..practical and helpful in aiding OBE experiences etc...

Many times when having an OBE but more especially during a Lucid dream scenario....I have had this ..what can only be described as a "luscious eeriness" sortof feelig when participating in the LD environment..Robert Monroe explains this by referrring to it as "Going Home"...which sort of makes sense.
The feeling that you are in your "real" (spiritual) home environment..the pathos and sort of obscure nostalgia is tremendous..
Anybody know what I am blethering onabout?or can desxcribe it bettr than i can?

Ivanada...when we see tunnels etc. during an AP it is our consciousness going through the various chakras I think...what you had was that I am sure..

Hi..not easy but when I have a dry period and lack of OBE's it always works toensure Iwake up about 3/4am..stay awake and meditate..affirmation "I will remain conscious"..go to sleep and at the very least you will rpobably have a lucid dream..maybe even an OBE.good luck.

..as we know Robert deals with this extensively in Astral Dynamics..I am thinking aloud here...read in one of Rudolf Steiner's books "Sleep and Dreams" (thoroughly recommend by the way)...that the ego and astral body leave the physical body and etheric(or life) body together....and..like Robert and others say Steiner mentions that it is vital to utilise the waking up and going to sleep periods to initiate OBE and/or  memory of it...so it appears that to remember dreams and OBE's we have to merge the returning or going out ego and astral body with the etheric body..which Steiner says is the body of memory...without doing this all memory of events outside the etheric/physical body will evaporate...I do not know where I am going with this..anyone else got any theoretical stuff and ideas on this???

There was a very interesting thread on suicide.I have an article on this on Robert's site and I thought it might be of interest so have posted it here...

After The Suicide Of My Son
By Michael Ross
© Copyright (An Astral Experience)

Murray Ross....RIP

On December 5th 1998, my son Murray, aged 21, committed suicide by jumping off the Wallace Monument, in Stirling, Scotland. Naturally enough, this is a devastating experience for any parent to have to go through. There can be some comfort in the fact that, as a fairly experienced astral projector, there is clear, direct knowledge that there is life after death. Unfortunately, of course, it is generally recognised that suicide is one of the more unfortunate and inadvisable means of exiting the physical body.

Robert Bruce has endeavoured to provide a great deal of information concerning "Rest and Recreation" areas in the astral planes where such traumatised souls can get back to some position of stability. For example, in his book "Astral Dynamics" Robert describes how the healing energy is reinterpreted by our perceiving minds (while projecting) as various hospital scenarios. No matter how the scene and "astral adventure" develops the fact remains that real, substantial help is there and ongoing.

This sort of interpretation and experience contrasts sharply with various occult, religious and philosophical descriptions of the after life state where such souls are thought to spend a great deal of their existence in a condition of considerable distress, anguish and torment.

As a strict "empiricist" in the field of research into our spiritual nature, I wish to describe some confirmations I have had in the hope that it might assist others in the same unfortunate position of having loved one's pass over into such a post mortem state. I would also hope that this might encourage further research into such aspects of "rescue work". For over thirty years, since the age of seventeen, I have been fortunate enough to have had many experiences of astral projection. Until two years ago most of them were actually pretty mundane in so far as I had only experienced out of the body phenomenon in the vicinity of my bedroom. I seemed to have little ability in developing further despite some efforts in this direction.

However, two years ago I awoke and found myself floating above my bed with an enormous sound like being in the midst of an electrical dynamo resounding in my head. It was a sound which increased in pitch and "speed". According to Robert Bruce, it is likely that this may have been a spontaneous high level activity of the ajna (brow) or crown( top of the head) chakras.
I then found myself going backwards through a tunnel configuration made up of rectangular patterns . (Robert, again, gives a description of such experiences in "Astral Dynamics" where this could more than likely be an experience of his novel "Astral Wind" conception).
The whole experience was utterly exhilarating in itself - like being on a seemingly never ending roller coaster. Thoroughly recommended!

I then found myself in a desired "target" - a former home thirty miles or so distant. Since then I have had a number of these "tunnel" vision experiences during projections. However, since the death of my son, I have obviously endeavoured to get in touch with him in order to discover the truth of his port mortem condition.

One's own experience in these things, is , alas, I feel the only way ahead. I have friends ( who have experienced similar traumatic deaths ) who would give their right arms for such an experience and the only way to obtain it is by slow, patient and consistent endeavour over a period of time. Spiritual experiences do not come easily as Robert has pointed out in his articles and Astral Dynamics.

Anyway, a few days after Murray's death I had a lucid dream ( not validated as an OBE - you have to be ruthlessly honest with yourself in this regard!) where we met. He looked somehow shocked and "empty" and we hugged and kissed but he did not "say" anything.

This was relatively comforting since I had established some form of contact, but as can readily be imagined, this was far from enough. There was, over the next few months, a host of "dreams" and so on where we met and talked but the elusive out of the body experience was still waiting in the background to exhibit itself.

Now it is perfectly understandable that many will interpret these experiences as "wish fulfilment" creations of the subconscious and this is perfectly understandable on various levels. Of course I was "priming" the subconscious to have such experiences (out of the body phenomenon would scarcely be experienced unless one did do such high intensity affirmation work!) But the experience of what I am about to describe was, in all truth, real and in full consciousness.
I experienced another weird and wonderful lucid dream where all sorts of fascinating events were taking place.

As practitioners are well aware there is a strange sort of "aura" or feeling tone which accompanies many lucid dreams which indicate that something special is happening or about to take place.
Immediately after this I awoke in my bed and then found myself speeding down a particularly beautiful tunnel configuration.
It was made up of intricate, almost "paisley pattern" type designs that one could find on a wallpaper or carpet .
I then, intuitively, decided to increase my speed by turning over on my (astral body) back. This seemed to work and I found myself speeding up considerably. The tunnel, again, continued to be a beautiful experience in itself.

I then was aware of a shadowy figure flying behind me. I do not normally experience "guides" or whatever although I have sensed a presence in previous projections - but nothing which I could positively establish to my on satisfaction.
(Robert goes into considerable detail in "Astral Dynamics" discussing the notion some projectors put forward that all projections are accompanied in such a manner. He does not believe that out of body projections are "policed" by astral beings.)
Be that as it may, I journeyed on for some time.

I immediately decided to attempt to go to Murray.
I then seemed to ascend in a vertical manner, again up the tunnel with the same beautiful pattern. It is difficult to put into words the ecstasy of such an experience.
I found myself in a room full of giggling young children, all looking very happy and of different races. Someone( unseen) passed over a small baby to me which I cuddled , marvelling at its tiny fingers.( Incidentally prior to this I had experienced, for the first time, the "melting hands" phenomena which Robert describes in Astral Dynamics. Fascinating).
I passed the baby back and felt a sense of extreme disappointment that Murray was not there.
The children laughed and pointed to a corner of the room.

Suddenly, my dear son appeared looking very much younger from behind some furniture where it appears he had been hiding.
In fact he looked about 12 years of age. He was very hesitant and embarrassed looking.( As my wife pointed out later when I told her of this she said that is exactly how he would have reacted knowing the great sorrow we obviously feel at what he and done.)
I was absolutely overcome and hugged and kissed him.
He looked so pleased.

Unfortunately, as is well known emotional outbursts on the astral plane can be very counter- productive. But I obviously couldn't help myself at the time.
This sort of emotional reaction on the part of the projector can bring about an abrupt break in the experience and so it proved. I found myself shooting back down the tunnel at an enormous speed and woke up in my body.

I then proceeded, with tears in my eyes, to note down the experience in a journal I keep for such purposes.

I was very touched to read of Robert's account in "Astral Dynamics" where he describes his meeting with his 8 year old son Jeremy who had died tragically due to an accident.
These contacts are not easy to establish and, for that matter, to maintain for any length of time which certainly gives food for thought for those who assert that contact with our loved ones to such an intense degree are easy to obtain.
For example, Robert, who is extremely accomplished in exploring the astral planes , shows just how precious and rare is such an experience. Those who describe their constant, effortless and daily excursions to the heaven world give those of us who try very hard cause to have pause for thought as to just how "real" and fully conscious their astral adventures have been. Again, sad to say, one's own experience is the only way ahead.

I was puzzled as to why Murray appeared much younger than his 21 years. Robert kindly explained to me how souls can sometimes take some time to stabilise -- especially those passing in traumatised conditions. This makes a lot of sense. There is probably a connection with the "life review" period where the soul relives its previous life during intermittent phases while acclimatising itself to the astral world.

I do hope my account may give a little comfort to those who have loved one's who have passed under such unfortunate conditions. We have to be ruthlessly honest with ourselves and recognise that suicide is, indeed, an unfortunate way of passing whether through ( mostly) depression or any other intent.

My strong conviction is those who are left behind can do much to ease the burden of our loved one's by thinking and praying for them as often as we can - sending love through the ether as it were. They are nourished and helped to progress. Hard though it is for those left behind to get into such a positive frame of mind. But despite all such astral experiences we are all too human. But we have to "plouter" and "chauve" on (Scots -- meaning to just go on and work hard -- in this case in all spiritual endeavours.)

I hope this helps. I have been very grateful to Robert for his freely given service and spiritual help personally. Good on you Robert!

I read somewhere( could have been Rudolf Steiner or Douglas Baker) that, if one drinks quite a lot of alcohol, wine specifically if i remember correctly, that one gets rid of the "old" clairvoyance in order to develop the "proper" clairvoyant abilities.
Now i would havethought that , taking alot of drink would lead to being mostly unconscious..(and in order to test this hypothesis scientifically you understand. I have been paetaking of the grape quite a lot...:-)))..and mush to my amazement have noticed an unexpected increase in utterly fantastic lucid dreams..extremely logical events taking place too..which sort of was unexpected..maybe a case of the old clairvoyance being "shed" as ( I drink and) sleep??an folks got any views on this..seriously???

Hi folks..what a tremendous four days at Buckland Hall,Wales for Robert's first workshop. There were over 50 participants from all over..and the atmosphere was just great which i am sure is unusual in events with numbers of folks like that attending.Robert is obviously on his way to doing a lot more of these and i throughly recommend attendance if you can manage. He is a natural at this..and his friendly compassionate nature was obvious to everyone....just being himself. And the OBE and Energy stuff was down to earth and practical.
great stuff all round.

For the first time ever I managed to meet a close friend on the astral plane and the situation was remembered by both of us...nothing too exceptional but I was told something I did not know and this was confirmed by my friend who remembered the meeting..so I am grateful I have experienced something Oliver Fox etc mentions for example.... In my case it was neither a conscious or lucid dream scenario which i had been trying for but a "dream with atmosphere"..my own personal description of a sort of sensation i get in either OBE,Lucid dream or "ordinary" dream..where there is a deeply felt "eerie" atmosphere..very pleasant since it means that something exceptional is happening..I know that those who....like me..have been fortunate to OBE LD frequently will know what I am talking about...there just is a fantastic..life enhancing "eerieness" when one is in the spirit world for real and one knows it...anyway..long winded intro to asking for any other mutually remembered experiences in the astral plane..

Lots of interesting discussions on these two..I am a member of IIPC and have attended gateway too...for me gateway didnt work although i have enormous respect for Robert Monroe and what he achieved..it is as someone else said a bit too"touchy feeley" for me..the original "strength" has gone i feel..it is more of a corporation than anything else..but thats a bloody sight better than making bombs!!IIPC does it for me..the whole ethos is most certainly NOT guruish as Vieira has been accused of in some posts..i have met the man and he is totally down to earth and his organisation is totally down to earth...many of the volunteers take no wages whatsoever i beleive..it is , i agree, difficult to assimilate the "new language" they use..but that is peropheral..if It works i do it..and they certainly work for me..give both a try..and seewhat works for you...

Anyone know a good site where i can see some examples of astral projection painitngs etc??I dabble in painting now and again and like to copy stuff for my own amusement..have come across a few good pics in books..but i would have thought theremight be sites showing OBE pics etc..anyone know of any by any chance????I have tried with little success....thanks...

Hi..I don't suppose anyone on this site has a copy of "Dreams and How to Guide Them" by Marquis d'Hervey de Saint-Denys..published by Duckworth  in 1982..have trawled all the book sites and no luck..would like to add this one to my collection....

Hi Theodore ..Good..hoped you enjoyed..would like to read about your experience if you feel inclined..they are a very friendly bunch and I particularly enjoyed the chat with Joe Mcmoneagle..one afternoon he spent two hours or so chatting to some of us about his obe's etc..worth the trip alone..regards..michael

Hi TDD..I went from scotland to do gateway..I have projectedfor many years and really admired Monroe and wanted to see his place etc..I tried his Going Home tapes at home before going and had pone very minor projection using it. nothing afterwards.so it could have been the novelty factor. At gateway it was interesting..but it did not work for me..by the end of the week i was out-taped...had no projections and only acouple of reasonably interesting "panoramic visions"..but i am glad I tried altho it did nothing for me...don't let me put you off trying though..it might work for you..good luck anyway..as i say Monroe like Muldoon did a lot of pioneering work...

very interesting Mustardseed..yes..I have had similar experiences."Woke up" and found myself in childhood home..totally aware i was OBEing and then I phased out of this and "wrote it all down in my OBE?Dream Diary" and then "realy" woke up..false awakening..fasciating stuff and interestingly enough I often have several nights in a row when i experience this....

Ah, at last a concrete answer and not a flood of questionable personal beliefs.
Could I ask you to clarify certain details.

sure..........................

- You say that the Institute of psychophysical research did set up a 5 digits number. You also said that astral projection happened only in the vicinity of your bed.
Do you mean that the number was set up far away from your room and you could not project to that place but could stay only in your room?

yes..set up hundreds of miles away in oxford...

Do you think that you could read a number that would be placed in your room but that you couldn't see from your bed, on the top of some surface above you?

yes I could...if i had a "classsical" obe and could control it and there was not too much distortions in perceiving with "astral" eyes etc..

Of course, that wouldn't be a proof to others, unless they observe you all the time when you make the attempt, but that would be a proof for yourself.

But I would be interested to hear from people who can do RT projection as a matter of routine. Are there such people here?

we haveI agree to explain why NO-ONE and I mean no-one has ever successfully done an OBE and achieved a target under laboratory conditions..I know all about Charles tarts' one in 1967 with a subject but it is not entirely scientifcally viable.i KNOW that I amd thousands other really do get OBE but we are owe a legitiamte explanation as to why we have not proven it objectively...
#24
When I first started projecting I suggested to the Institute ofpsychophysical research in oxford that they set up a 5 digit number for me to attempt to get via an OBE (This was in 1967).
They agreed to do this.
Over the next few years NOTHING.
I never managed despite trying.
OBE's only happned in the vicinity of my bedroom.
Uncontrolled.
I do not know why.
But I KNOW I was out of the body every time I managed the dozens of times I did.
BUT I could never provide "objective" proof.
The onus is on me to explain that or get advice etc from others as to why.
We cannot duck out of providing "objective" proof though or at least explain in a valid way why it has not been provided yet.
#25
By the way:
Can anyone tell me why I get OBE symptoms during a daynap so often, and only when I am not expecting anything.

......I think it is because of the same reason if you go to sleep at night and do not manage or sleep lightly and wake upa lot that your consciousness finds it "easier" to remain conscious when leaving and re-entering the physical body and etheric body..that is when dreams/lucid dreams and OBE's are recalled perfectly (more or less) usually...
