I have noticed that my state of mind affects my focus. If my mind is tired and exhausted cause of staying up late, then it is harder for me to focus my thoughts. That's part of why it's better to try to have an OBE when your not tired. With that said, I believe it's pretty normal to slip back into sleep when your mind is tired. I wouldn't stop trying though whenever the opportunity arises. I have had some pretty interesting OBE's while my mind is sluggish from being tired. But yeah, the more awake your mind is, the more focused your experience should be. This, of course, is just my personal experience.... Everyone is a little different. Good luck on your future attempts :)

Yeah I'm a little familiar with the idea of what you see being a reflection of yourself. I don't know if innocent was the right word but it was the only one I could think of at the time. Upon further refection of the experience, I would say that the stare was more of an "it's ok, no need to be scared" stare. Which also could be a reflection of my initial fear of suddenly seeing a large cat in my room haha.
After returning to my body and reflecting, I feel like that was an important event for me and it makes me excited to have another encounter.

So I attempted to project around 1pm today. I used some binural beats to help me along but after about 45 minute, it didn't seem to be doing much so I took them out and just laid on my side. Almost immediately I started to feel the signs of an OBE and next thing I know, I am wiggling out of my body. I felt a lot more in control of this experience than I usually am. Most of the time I can't even float or move through object, but I was able to this time.
At some point I decide to ask to see my spirit guide which is something I have never really done before. Nothing happens until I turn around and see a large black jungle cat which I believe was a panther. I freaked out for a second because it was right in my face but then I slowly relaxed when I realized all it was doing was looking at me innocently. At this point I must have slipped into a dream and eventually woke up.
Could this panther (or whatever kind of large cat it was) be my spirit guide? Aside from the initial shock, I did not felt threatened at all.

So last night, or rather this morning around 5 a.m. I had an interesting experience which I am not sure was an OBE or a lucid dream.

It started when I woke up in a state of paralysis, which happens to me very often. Realizing the state I was in, I attempted to leave my body, and I eventually did so. A lot of the time, my OBE's feel very physical and real, so I always check asking myself questions like where am I and try to see if anything is out of place.

I eventually realize that I really am out of my body, but the next thing I know I am in shallow water looking for something, and then later I am searching for a book for someone. While these last bits seem more like a dream than anything, I am still aware that I am out of my body. I'm wondering if it was because of the state of mind I was in and it started with a conscious OBE and then I drifted into a dream?

Thanks! I figured it was pretty normal, it was just a little different from what I usually experience.

So I have been on and of this site since my schedule can go from slow to busy. I am able to project at will from time to time but I am a bit rusty which is causing my experiences to feel very physical. What I mean by this is that I am able to leave my body but I am still restricted to physical laws (unable to float or phase through walls). This, however, could be related to the fact that the last few times it happened, my mind has been very tired which could be translating into my experiences.

Now to get back on track with what my subject heading is talking about. Every now and then when I am in the pre projection phases, I hear strange voices which I can best describe as eavesdropping on a phone call or picking up radio stations. I know that auditory hallucinations are common when attempting to project but this is the first time I have heard something like this. Does anyone have similar experiences?
#7
Yeah no problem. Good luck. I hope to hear about your first experience soon!

In this particular case I was just tired and wanted to go to bed. I was, however, very relaxed...possibly due to the binaural beats. I was laying on my back when it all went down. I have had experiences where I was on my side and I was able to briefly leave my body but I find laying flat on my back has the best results.
As far as what my thoughts are focused on, I usually try and not think of anything except for maybe repeating something in my head to keep my mind from drifting off to sleep. I know the most popular thing to repeat is "mind awake, body asleep" which seems to help me. I usually do that or just focus on the emptiness and imagine myself going deeper into the emptiness. I suppose it's a little different for everyone because I have tried things that work great for other people but not me and the other way around.

Yes, I do find a difference. I actually don't lucid dream very often but when I do, I am already established in my dream and most of the time I just wake up when I realize I'm dreaming. Sometimes I am able to stay in the dream a little longer and manipulate things to a small degree. When I consciously leave my body I am aware of what's going on right from the start. I haven't been able to do too much while projecting because I think that I try so hard to try so many things that my focus isn't where it should be, but I feel that that my focus is improving. What I am going to start doing is every time I attempt a projection I am going to only try to focus on one thing (floating around and controlling the direction, phasing through walls, going into space) When I leave my body I get so excited and want to try all of it and I think it inhibits me from having the level of control that I am seeking, haha

It has been several months since I have had a succesful projection experience. Partly because i have been busy but also because of lazyness. The past month i have been trying to get back into it but the most i could accomplish was relaxing and falling asleep. Well last night i decided to try this binural beat app i got on my phone. I let it play for about an hour and then took them off cause i was just going go to sleep. Shortly after i felt the familiar vibrations and i almost got too excited and snapped out of it but i knew better. I calmed myself down and embraced the vibrations until i rolled myself out of my body. I wasnt able to do much. I could phase through windows and float around but not quite fly and i was confined to the area around my apartment building. Im guessing part of this is because i was tired and on the verge of just slipping into a dream and that i am out of practise. Either way, it was a consious exit from my body that im proud of. I found it surprising how well the binural beats worked but i dont want to get too used to it because i dont want to become reliant on them.
All in all i feel good about this recent experience and i feel im on the verge of strenthening my abilities. Reading about everyones experiences on here helps to motivate me as well so thanks all. Also sorry for any grammer/spelling errors. Im typing all this on my phone.

So I am able to leave my body about 3/4th of the times that I attempt to. Most of the time they only last less than a minute(pop out then pop right back in, lol) and even with the longer one's I seem to be confined to my apartment and am somewhat physically grounded (can't float or fly or go through walls)
Well just the other day I managed to leave my body and for the first time I was able to walk through a wall. It was pretty neat. It was as if I was melting into the wall and became part of it and just continued out the other side. Its a small step, but it is a step.
I'm also excited because with my new relaxation techniques I have been doing, I at least get to the near exit point almost every single time I attempt AP. I think I'm starting to hone in on the best methods for myself...after 2 years of being interested in AP and practising (with periods of time where I don't practise for a while)...Its about time, haha. So if anyone out there is feeling discouraged cause they have been trying for a while and still havn't been able to AP yet...Don't give up...as everyone says it really is time, pracatise and patients.

I agree...as long as your comfortable. One thing I would be careful of, though, is to make sure you have a clear breathing passage (keep your head to the side). You don't want to enter the sleep paralysis state where you can't move your body while your face is in your pillow...you may suffocate. This past year my brother died in his sleep and they think he might have suffocated in his sleep while he was laying on his stomach.
But I think as long as your keep your mouth in a comfortable breathing position and you don't move around too much you should be ok.

Another interesting thing to note is that everyone one of my conscious experiences have been between 12 and 2pm and after having roughly 7 hours of sleep.

Today was the third time I consciously astral projected. It wasn't very long and all I did was walk around my room. One thing that was different is that when I though about moving through a wall or something (something i have not been able to do yet) I actually started to sink through the floor. The surprise of this caused me to get pulled back into my body...The even stranger thing is that when I returned to my body I almost immediately fell into a dream. Because it was so sudden after returning to my body, I thought I was awake. In my dream I remembered have a stash of oreos in my cupboard. When I woke up I was saddened that I had no Oreos. One of the more disappointing dreams. but on the bright side I can add one more Astral Experience to my journal :)

Funny thing about running and jumping.....The first time I was out of my body I tried to fly (key word tried haha) I gave a big run and jump and landed on my face....luckily since I was out of my body I didn't feel anything but I did make me laugh at myself.
#16
It was pretty scary, although, it was the laughing that scared me more than the person (thing) starting at me. Sent shivers down my spine.
I haven't had any creepy experiences since then though. That was also at the beginning of my experimenting in AP so I still had the "fear" factor, I have since been in control of any fear of AP.

The first time it happened to me I did it about 4-5 times in a row. I can also relate to how everything was sharper as well being that I normally wear glasses.

Yep. practice practice practice. I have been at this on and off for a little over a year now, but this last month I have been really focused on it and practicing a lot more than usual. Already this month I have had 2 conscious AP experiences as well as a improved Dream recall. I used to struggle to remember bits of my dreams but now I can remember most of what I dreamed almost every night :) as you can see practice has more than one benifits.

Sounds to me like your on the right track  :-) keep it up!

Understood you just fine  :-)
That's cool that you had your first experience. I had my first just a couple of weeks ago.
Contrats and good luck with future experiences!

I just had my second conscious AP experience about a half an hour ago. My girlfriend left to go to a dentist appointment around 9 this morning so I used that time she was gone to just lay and bed and practice some meditation and relaxation. Just a half hour later I very briefly slipped into a dream where I was on a bus that was going down hill very fast and I got that feeling in my stomach that you get when you are on a roller coaster. It was then that I woke back up and found my self covered in the vibrations (and that weird pressure feeling in my teeth I always seem to get) I immediately attempted to exit my body. I managed to get myself out about 3 times for just a few seconds before returning to my body. I finally got myself out of my body long enough to turn around and see myself in my bed (something i didn't do in my first experience).

This experience wasn't quite as vivid as my first but that might have been because one of my arms was in a position where it wasn't getting very good circulation and was completely asleep.
But although it wasn't as interesting  of an experience as the first, I am glad to of had it because it was the second one in the past 2 weeks which means I must be getting the hang of it  :-D
This fact alone is motivating me more and more and I'm glad I have this site to share my experiences on because not a lot of people I know are too interested in the subject matter. I look forward to my future experiences as I hope they will start happening more frequently and more vividly with practice.

That sounds like Yoda!  :-)

haha. or a Jawa

But strangely I think I maybe have seen something similar

That's a really good idea....pondering about the dream in your journal....I think I'm going to give that a shot. Thanks for the idea!

Welcome to Out of Body Experiences! / Dream Recall
November 29, 2011, 12:07:12
I have noticed that whenever I regularly practice AP it is easier for me to remember my dreams once I wake up. Usually I'm lucky if I remember small parts of my dreams let alone any part of them at all, but whenever I'm on a roll with meditation and AP attempts, they become more clear to me and easier to remember. I was also told that keeping a journal of your dreams helps with dream recall as well.
I was wondering if anyone else noticed the same things.

I wish I had that much time to get as into it as you. But I'm a bus rider so between work and the time in takes to get to and from work on the bus it doesn't leave a lot of time. Also I live in a studio with my girlfriend who isn't that interested in this topic so I practice every chance I get. One day I would like to rent out a cabin in the middle of no where for a week for some good meditation and practice...I think that would be very fulfilling because there would be no man made distractions like people in the apartment above you making a lot of noise haha.
