As I am a relative 'newbie' to O.B.E. and new to the forum, please be gentle with me if I ask a dumb question, post this in the wrong forum, etc. Just remember that I am much farther down the 'Learning Curve' than most of you and all have been where I am now.
Short bio and then I will get to the subject topic. For years, I have believed in NDE but never gave much thought to OBE. Then about 6 or 7 weeks ago, I ran across information on OBE and I suddenly realized that if one is to believe in NDE it is only logical to believe in OBE as,in both cases, the brain is at the same relative conscious level. Being a voracious reader, I began to devour everything in sight. I have read Robert Bruce's "Astral Dynamics", all 3 of Robert Monroe's books, all 4 of Bruce Moen's, 2 by William Buhlman, and singles by Rosalind McKnight, Albert Taylor, and Richard Peterson. I have a few more to read. I said this not to brag about the feat but simply as an illustration that I am dead serious about finding out all I can about this fantastic realm to explore. I consider myself a modern day "Rip Van Winkle" in that I have been asleep for the past 40 years while so much of this experimentation was going on.
Needless to say, having done all this reading, I have picked up many many techniques in how to achieve the OBE state. I also learned that over the past several years, I have had many instances of what was probably spontaneous OBE's and wasn't even aware of them as such. Many cases of floating or flying. I simply attributed them to dreams and never noticed any vibrations or other sensations. While I did see other people during these experiences I don't ever remember attempting to talk to any of them. What I do (now) find strange is that none of them even noticed that I was flying or floating around. Possibly, they were physical and I was non-physical and they didn't see me or they were also non-physical and what I was doing was common to them. But, I never remember any of them doing it.
Having read so many books, I have been exposed to many various ways to achieve the OBE state. I normally just attempt to do it thru relaxation, meditation, self-hypnosis. I have read that some people can achieve this state without the vibrations but that the vibrational state is present for most people. This is where I am having the problem. Only once, about 3 weeks ago, have I reached this vibrational state. There was no mistaking it. It didn't just start small and build in intensity. It was there. Full force like WHAM! Also, quite severe. At this time I decided to lift out and was successful. Even though I wasn't as light and buoyant as I had expected to be, I was able to float up to what I felt was 2 or 3 feet above my physical body. I then did a 180 degree roll to see if I could see my body. It was pitch black and I couldn't see anything. Possibly, if I had given myself some strong commands like, "Vision now", "clarity", "see now" etc., I could have. I then did the reverse roll and settled back in. Total time out was probably no more than 15 seconds. The problem I am now having is not being able to achieve the vibrational state again. I get to what I feel is the proper threshhold and nothing. That brings me to the question which I promished you in the beginning.
Does anyone know if there has been any experimentation of creating the vibrational state artificially? It seems at least plausible. If the brain can be 'tricked' into various levels of activity via binaural frequencies, it seems like the body could possibly be tricked into thinking it was in the normal vibrational state if some type of vibrator was placed at the back of the neck or head. If anyone has any knowledge along these lines, I would like to hear it. In the meantime, for lack of anything better to do, I am going to try it. I will let you know if it works.
Thanx.
