Welcome to News and Media! / Bush Sucks.

QuoteCool breeze...and your hatred for Bush helps the problems of the world....how?

What I meant was that whether i like bush or not is not going to change anything in the world and that we need to look past political boundaries. You said this better than I could, but I disagree with you on one thing...

QuoteAnd hating any one in office is a waste of energy. Better to direct that energy outward in a more peaceful thoughtform....one that perhaps can raise the level of positive energy in the world instead of just feeding into all the negative energy that already exists.

Hmmm... Yes, but sometimes I think that my dislike for their policies motivates me to get something done towards what I feel is better - volunteering or something, in a positive mood. I put that hate to use in a good way. I see where you're coming from however. A "peaceful thoughtform" can still dislike Bush without verbally bashing him all the time. Most of the people I've talked to who dislike bush are putting that energy to good use, but they still hate him.

I've used tarot cards for a while now, 2-3 yrs. but I never really gave it much credit for actually working, but sometimes they did surprise me. I'll give it more of a chance!

Nay, thanks for lightening the mood a little. This thread is very emotionally taxing to read about intellegent people arguing about something like this and makes me really want to scream "WHY CANT WE ALL BE FRIENDS?"
But anyways....
I feel Bush has his own agenda and doesn't care for the rest of the country let alone the world, as seen with the way the Bush Administration has treated the UN. So, with this in mind- I think we can safely say that stopping genocide never has been on the Bush agenda, and never will be.

Look past the political boudaries though, the government doesn't have to be the one to stop genocide, at least not completely. I think we can get something done without constantly bickering politicians.

PS: I do hate bush though.

To me, suicide should be treated like the abortion issue- as an option, but a last resort. With abortion we supply birth control, with suicide we provide the tools to deal with what could cause suicide.

I believe in reincarnation and karma, so, in my opinion, taking the way out through suicide is just going to land you somewhere worse than you are now.

QuoteIn other words the fanatics who say suicides are evil mortal sinners seem to take delight in pointing out the suffering of people and saying, "yes, indeed they are suffering, shame on them."

I am NOT saying "ooo you committed suicide, naughty", i AM saying "what can we do to help others who are suicidal so that they don't kill themselves"

Welcome to Astral Chat! / is there a school?
April 30, 2005, 20:13:15
I haven't really found a teacher that helps me on the stuff found here, but I do have a friend I discuss things with. We're the same age and at different stages in each part of life. Sometimes I feel that this relationship is better than that which i could have with a teacher, though teachers are wonderful to have.

Quotenot to mention, people would treat us as Jedi's

*pulls out light-saber* Whose to say we can't be Jedi's? May the force be with you all.

Whoa!! All this anti-german stuff is scary to me. Not that a lot of it isn't justified, I understand. But Germany has much changed since then. Nazi paraphernalia is illegal and they are (as a people) truly embarrassed and sorry about it. I take german from a german born and bred teacher and plan on going as an exchange student next year, so I may be biased, but they have changed. This guy was also REALLY close to Pope John Paul, so that should tell us something right there. Yes, he is very conservative, but hopefully he push for peace in the world as John Paul did. This guy may also help bridge the gap between the eastern and western worlds. Those things in and among themselves make more of a difference to me than him pushing against birth control or gay rights, as they are a choice in many countries.
And the whole nazi youth thing, I heard Ratzinger and his brother left germany under threat of death as soon as they could.

Atheism can also be considered the simple belief that "all people are generally good" without constant supervision.

I believe in a higher god, but not all the restrictions churches and religions place upon worship, its just not personal enough for me.

QuoteThe fact that he's even in office is the sign of our times. You'd think we'd learn something from WW2.

And the whole Bolton/UN thing!! Whats up with that?! The UN is SO important. Why would anyone even think about nominating that idiot and hypocrite?

There's a very good and simple exercise used for learning how to better focus your mind. I don't think it actually has a name but all you have to do is pick an object and focus on it. I like doing this with flowers or leaves, something small and natural gets me in the best mindset, but whatever works for you. Just meditate and focus on it for a while. I found this especially good when I was just beginning to try and AP.

QuoteI've found that Buddhist mindfulness meditation is greatly beneficial.
Agreed.

Thanks SO much Ben, I really appreciate this, I've been real busy this month. I finally did get a chance to search this and I read the threads you linked. The third one down was very helpful.

The resources I'd been reading, mainly books, didn't mention much about the Akashic records. Mostly they talked about psychology, past life therapists and self hypnosis. I figured there was a better way (for me at least) for me to reach this goal. I think I'm gonna go from there now, maybe try to access the records through lucid dreaming or visualization. Thanks again for the help.

This also helped: //www.edgarcayce.org

Thank you for setting me straight Ben. I think I've got this now. What is also called phasing I knew as the monroe method of astral projection (this IS very easy and effective, in my experience). (I know i can search for stuff, though time is slim, I won't be lazy, sorry  )
Remembering back through meditation sounds very over simplified, but I'll try it any way.
The akashic records sounds interesting. Has anyone accessed it before? How did it appear to you?

Phasing is just mind awake/body asleep! I didn't know that (its a bit of a let down actually). Ok then, I've been doing that with some success for a while. Thanks though.

You did mention that your past life was disturbing however. Was it still worth it to recall, or would you recommend against it?

I've been reading up on reincarnation lately, and I've wanted to try and remember one of my past lives.
Has anybody done this and has an experience to share? Do you have any recommendations on how I can go about doing this?
#16
I have heard that it is possible to have transpersonal (i think thats what i t was called) experiences when doing drugs, and the same thing can happen when using hypnosis to look find past lives. I definitely agree with majortom though about the leprechauns.
QuoteThis does not imply that we have some part of our mind in common, just that we walk the same reality (be it on the first or second plane).

Quite agree there too. Just want to throw what I've read out there

Red catherine, your post was very inspiring, thank you. I have to say that I haven't formed all my beliefs (i'm just finishing confirmation), but I do believe in reincarnation and karma. These things just make sense. But also, there must be some sort of heaven somewhere and a god, or force. Thank you everyone for your thoughts, especially catherine.

Neutrino, that sounds like when I had vibrations. You described it almost exactly. I have had a LOT of trouble with vibrations distracting me, however. I would be meditating and get into a trance, then all of a sudden BAM! and it would kind of shock me out of the trance. So, definitely some good advice here, and good luck

*jumps up and down* OOOO! I've gotten this feeling too, its pretty cool to do. Sadly, I usually take showers right when I wake up, and its hard for me to do energy work right then. Its a really cool feeling though. I wonder if its because water has its own energy. By the way, does water have its own energy?

I have HORRIBLE allergies too!! Actually they've gotten worse since I started doing energy work and stuff, but thats probably just a coincidence. I just developed a food allergy to shellfish too (whaa  no more lobster). As with you, I have a difficult time meditating when my allergies crop up. Meditation sometimes helps, but not especially well, Benedryl is my favorite method at this point in time, so I would appreciate any other ways to deal with this as well.

Intriguing. Have you ever read the Day of the Triffids? Its a very thought provoking book, about plants being superior to people.

QuoteI was just about to say the opposite - it's sad that teachers have so much power in choosing what you learn and what you don't learn. I mean, it was fortunate that you had a teacher who allowed you to experiment with something unconventional, but it was still teacher-directed. What's even funnier is that what we're learning through scientific materialism should tell us that students do better when they are free to follow their own independent interests.

That's ironic, funny. The sad truth is, most students just don't care, speaking from experience. The rat/ plant experiments are really cool though. Very intriguing topic.

I'm really not advanced enough to give advice, but I'm glad you didn't opt the knife way. Very relieved actually. I can try to help you remotely, if you want, but seeing as i don't know you, I'm not sure if it would work, and i don't want to make things worse.

Once again, very relieved you chose to keep on going. You will be in my thoughts.

Yes... I am agreeing with you. Martial arts is a good way to protect yourself. I think i am being misunderstood.  So plain and simple: 1) Don't hit annoying people just because they are annoying 2)try not to make enemies (refer to one) 3) use martial arts to protect yourself if you are attacked by enemies.  Thats my theory there. Take it or leave it.

From National Geographic, March 2005 issue:

Quote"To focus the mind and increase awareness of self, Shingon Buddhists like Souei Sakamoto practice takigyo, chanting for hours while standing in frigid waterfalls at the Oiwasan Nissekiji Temple in Toyama, Japan.

For 2,500 years Buddhists have employed such strict training techniques to guide their mental state away from destructive emotions and toward a more compassionate, happier frame of being. Spurred by the cascade of new evidence for the brain's plasticity, Western neuroscientists have taken a keen interest. Can meditation literally change the mind?

For the past several years Richard Davidson and his colleagues at the University of Wisconsin-Madison have been studying brain activity in Tibetan monks, both in meditative and non-meditative states. Davidson's group had shown earlier that people who are inclined to fall prey to negative emotions displayed a pattern of persistent activity in regions of their right prefrontalcortex. In those with more positive temperaments the activity occurred in the left prefrontal cortex instead. When Davidson ran the experiment on a senior Tibetan lama skilled in meditation, the lama's baseline of activity proved to be much farther to the left of anyone previously tested. Judging from this one study, at least, he was quantifiably the happiest man in the world.

Davidson recently tested the prefrontal activity in some volunteers from a high-tech company in Wisconsin. One group of volunteers then received eight weeks of training in meditation, while a control group did not. All the participants also received flu shots.

By the end of the study, those who had meditated showed a pronounced shift in brain activity toward the left, "happier", frontal cortex. The mediators also  showed a healthier immune response to the flu shot, suggesting that the training affected the body's health as well as the mind's.

"You don't have to become a Buddhist" says the Dalai Lama himself, who is closely following the work of Western cognitive scientists like Davidson. "Everybody has the potential to lead a peaceful, meaningful life."

This makes so much sense!!!! I guess I knew i felt better ever since i started serious meditation, but this is a good scientific explanation for those who need it.

coolbreez, how would you solve the problem of being attacked right now without hitting?

I'm just saying thats not the way to solve problems, not that you don't hit if you are attacked. No offense, but i found it pretty obvious that Cebren just found this guy annoying.
