I took a sleeping pill containing valerian root and melatonin last night, soon after lying down in bed the vibrations came on strong, I used the rope technique for a while with no luck, got frustrated and snapped myself out of it.  For the 1 1/2 hours I went in and out of the vibration state pretty much at will simply by laying on my back... no luck projecting, many lucid dreams, falling and floating feelings, strange images and voices... at one point I was sure I had just been speaking to my mother who had entered my room to tell me something.  I even entered the vibration state on my stomach which I have never done before.  I'm not positive but I believe I even was able to move while in the vibration state without snapping out of it, although if I chose to snap out I could.  I'm not sure what's going on, sometimes I enter the vibration state before my body is relaxed enough, I know when this happens because it is rather painful,  part of my body feels like it's shuddering, like one of my chakras is a sputtering engine.  Normally, if I go into the vibration state I only get one crack at it, usually fail to project, then have to wait many nights for the vibrations to come on again.  I theorize last night was different because of the valerian or melatonin, anyone have any ideas?

Does anyone know of any food or other substance(herbs, drugs) that assist in raising spiritual energy, or help bring about the vibration state?
I occasionally take a sleeping pill containing melatonin and valerian root, I've noticed it sometimes seems to help me get into the vibration state faster, no luck projecting yet though, and then the rest of the night I have VIVID dreams.  Anyone have any thoughts/ideas?

The idea that the voices/images are are sort of safeguard, to prevent projection before you're ready makes alot of sense to me.  Perhaps it's a warning from your higher self, one time immediately after entering the vibration state I clear-as-day heard "There's something you don't know yet!"
Well, that was enough for me!!  I thought "I'll take your word for it I'm outta here!" and I immediately focussed on moving my finger and snapped right out of it!!

My problem is when I enter the vibration/buzzing state and open my eyes, the images are very realistic and usually scary... beings flying around my room, also crystal clear voices from them or otherwise.  Anyone have any idea what these things are?  Lately I've managed to get my fear under control, and once managed to banish the images.  Usually I just close my eyes and continue meditating.

That's a really good question, I've read extensively about DMT as well.  Many people think DMT is THE physiological link which facilitates consiousness leaving the body, specifically at the time of death but also during meditation.  This would seem to explain the striking similarities between, as you said, meditation and reports from those who have taken DMT.  The idea makes alot of sense to me, although remain fairly controversial for obvious reasons.
I think it's true that belief can create reality, quite literally.  But I also think there is an overall structure or framework that was designed in which everyone works(at least in this stage of existence), and is subject to certain natural laws and so forth.  When I was young and new nothing about energy centers I often woke up in with intense vibrations and buzzing, I learned years later the buzzing corresponded to the so called chakras.  Alot of your ideas remind me of theories within quantum mechanics, many of which are forcing scientists to change their ideas about the nature of reality.  A great book is The Fabric Of The Cosmos, by Brian Greene.

Yup I have the same problems, recently I've been able to let go of the fear better if I close my eyes and ignore the vibrations, at which point the vibrations become intense and I've had distinct feelings of movement usually to one side or another.  I believe I'm getting close!
If I open my eyes however that's when the fear grips me, because there's always about a dozen "ghosts" flying all over my room menacing me, I then have to mentally argue with them trying to convince them to leave.  Recently I did manage to banish them through sheer force of my will, but that drained all my energy.  Even if these are hallucinations they are terrifying!  My suggestion: keep our eyes closed!

Since I was young I have had the ability to go into deep trance quite rapidly.  It used to scare the hell out of me before I knew what was going on, but recently I've practiced staying calm and attempting OBEs.  Here is what happens: I lay on my back with a pillow under my neck, within minutes intense vibration/energy fills my body.  And I mean it is often VERY intense, the other night it was like I could feel my eardrums vibrating, fortunately I've become used to this and am usually able to remain calm.  I've also mastered the ability to snap out of it by focussing on wiggling a finger.  When I open my eyes during this I get all manner of frightenning images/hallucination, so recently I've kept my eyes shut and concentrated on staying calm.  I was happy to read the other day that OBEs can only be attained with eyes shut, although I don't really understand why this is so.  Often I will get very real sensations of movement, either side to side or up and down, often I've been sure that my physical body is about to fall off the bed only to open my eyes and realize I haven't moved.  I'm a bit discouraged in that I have never attained my "astral sight".  Could someone give me any tips on how to acheive this?  Tonight I'm going to try the ROPE, up until now I've never used any technique except mentally saying "out" over and over, and simply trying to will myself out of my body.  Another oddity, if I have several drinks on one night, it's a 100% guarantee that I will reach the vibration trance the next night without any effort.  Anyone have a clue to why this could be?  I'm concerned that I'm "cheating", it seems strange to be able to reach this state without any relaxation excersizes or meditation.  It feels like the alcohol knocks something lose in my brain making trance much easier the folowing night.  How bizarre is this?  Thanks for any advice!
