For me, it goes like this:

I do reality checks each 15 or 30 minutes. I start asking myself if I'm dreaming or not, then I focus my attention in the environment around me and jump to test the gravity (if nobody is looking!) or, alternately, try to elongate my finger. Finally, I try to remember what I've been doing before that moment.

Each check takes 10/15 seconds and I keep doing them for 2 or 3 days. After this period I try to forget the whole thing.

I usually have a lucid dream or an OBE 15/30 days after this (it really helps if you have a dream diary).
