Hi Elway,

I am sure you'll get some good feedback.

I have the same experiences. I don't know what they represent, but have learned how to use them to my advantage.

For example the 'jump' that I get - If I am trying to hold trance and fall aseleep, I often get that 'jump.' It made me curious - but doesn't anymore, at present I simply use it to reestablish alertness.

My personal theory as to why dreams and such are more vivid when trying to project, is that the brain state is a little different. You are trying to take an alert frame of mind into sleep, in a sense, and so it stands to reason that your brain waves might have more 'wake-like' patterns, hence you remember more.

I find that if I try too many nights in a row, I start to really drag during the day. I think this is due to not getting the deep deep dreamless sleep that we seem to need.  Hopefully this will be less of a problem in the future when I can sleep as late as I like.

Elway,

First and foremost, realize that what works for one person may not work for another person.  There is no 100% right way to do this.

Why do I say this?  Well, in your question above, you want to know what it means to "visualize yourself outside of your body when attempting OBE."  For ME, this is something I would never do.

You see, like you, when you start out trying to project, you have no experience, so you try anything and everything that people say.  But in order to make significant progress, you should analyze what works for you and what doesn't work.  Take bits and pieces of different things and combne them together to make your own technique.

For example, as I was saying, visualizing myself out of my body doesnt work for me, simply because in doing so, I am inadvertantly focusing on my body!  This ends up keeping me too grounded to the physical and I can never take that extra mental jump to cross over into the astral realms.

So what works for one person may not work for another.  I personally try to forget about my body altogether.  I only focus on it in the beginning stages when I'm focusing on RELAXING it.  After it's in a relaxed state, I put it out of my mind and start paying to attention to the different focus levels that I'm trying to achieve.

It sounds like you are all set to go except your energy level isn't high enough to sustain your astral body while it's away. This is a problem that plagues many people atempting concious OBE. Robert Bruce realized this when he developed NEW. In his book AD Robert gives a condensed version of NEW that is designed to build energy for people wanting to Astral Project. When in your situation he recommends taking a couple weeks off trying to project and cocentrate on building your energy. It sounds like you are real close and once you build your energy there is no limit as to what can happen! I wish you the best!

You guessed correctly and you came to the right place. You were out of body. The energy body is a little larger than the physical body, which explains why there was the sense of swelling up. The heart chakra is a big part of the experience. Its activity feels like a rapid heartbeat of the physical body. The movements of the eyelids are a common side effect of working with energy and trance states. The muscles of the eyelids tend to take a while to relax and that is part of the process. You actually did check the caller ID. The rest of us have to place a card from a deck of playing cards and then go to it out of body to confirm that the experience was objective. Congratulations. Please stay with it and develop your abilities.
