First post, hello all!
I have had no formal training in what I've experienced, I've never mediated a day in my life but I've been lucky enough to have experienced the non physical to varying degrees. I have always been my own teacher and it has always worked for me because I feel that I will experience what I'm meant to experience when I'm ready to experience it. But for me I want to understand the underworkings at play. What is actually happening. And that's why I came here. I've read a lot of the threads, Xanth's book (which is awesome btw) franks pdf, among all the other goodies on here. What I was left contemplating after reading was lots of things but for todays purpose this. The idea that we don't actually leave our body kind of threw me for a loop. While I understand we are just moving up in consciousness isn't there an actual physical leaving that occurs? Most of my experiences to the non-physical have been through my third eye. And while I like that Xanth says not to get caught up on the labels its kind of hard not to notice the differences from each perspective when they occur. With my third eye experiences I don't force any intent on anything. I see blackness, color images swirling around and focus on one and you go there. Sometimes I see stars, other times I don't but that doesn't stop me from being able to dive into a picture. Now correct me if I'm wrong but (gen consensus) believe that I am actually astrally traveling when this is happening? My disagreement with this is I don't feel any disconnection from my physical. I can open my eyes, roll around exc, and just reclose them and reconnect again. I'm in like dual consciousness of sorts (mentally) but not actually there astrally if that makes sense. I don't feel the elation of emotions that I have felt while being in my astral body. The first time I actually left my body I rode a horse all around my neighborhood. I felt the horse beneath me, galloping, wind in my hair, 360 degrees of awesomeness.
But in the third eye state I have no connection but from what I am viewing. So my question is, to those of you who experience the non-physical, are you doing this primarily through your third eye or through astral traveling? And do you find that there are any limitations one vs. the other? Thanks!
