The author Bruce Moen says it is possible to speak with people who have died without first having to learn astral projection. It sounds like you at least experienced exit sensations and recieved your astral sight.
Yes those are the vibrations that people talk about. They can seem quite physical, like your whole body or environment is physically shaking. It can be quite disconcerting and upsetting the first time you experience them -- especially if you were not expecting them.
