SOMETHING GREATER THAN YOURSELF: Unanswerable yet Unavoidable Truths
I am not a writer and I will never call myself an author but I am going to write a book... More like compile a book or a series of small publications. The principle point is that I can't do it alone. With this many people and this many strangers in the world there are so many ways that increase separation between us and I only want to do my small part in reducing that. Since I am small and I constantly feel small, I can only hope that this will be the start of something big. I am beginning to collect stories of human connectivity. I want to hear about that time that you may have been standing in a crowd and wanted to yell, "Did anybody else just see that?" About that moment when all you could do was squeeze the hand of the person standing next to you because sometimes there's just nothing you can say. About that time when you caught a stranger's eye and you both smiled. The little things or the big things. All things.
I don't want to limit this to the unexplainable phenomenon that occur as a part of the way that I perceive the nature of reality. I encourage people from all belief systems- skeptics and non-skeptics alike. This is about the willingness to share any moment where you felt connected to something greater than yourself.
I want to avoid trying to interpret or create answers to how or why unexplainable things happen to us. I am okay with the fact that I don't have the brain to expand on the theories of the universe or to try and prove the source of all of this. I'm talking about TRUTHS, not PROOF. I'm calling these truths 'unanswerable' because I'm never again going to claim that I know the answer to something that seems mysterious. Something could happen next week that changes our minds about everything we ever knew. Everything is what we make it and everything is subjective. They are truths because they happened. I'm calling them 'unavoidable' because you still feel them.
So please share your stories with me. If you choose to remain anonymous that would be fine. This project also has an art component. Any artist is encouraged to submit their art to go along with any of the stories.
I chose not to go to graduate school directly out of my undergrad experience and I couldn't explain why. I felt a pressure to wait... to not apply right away. I think this project was the source of that pressure.
Please feel free to PM me! I welcome all languages, I would love for this project to go global and be translated as much as possible! If you know of someone with a story to share please refer them to me, I don't care if they are halfway across the world and don't have a computer. That's all the better because I hope to incorporate travel into seeking these unanswerable yet unavoidable truths.
