Chaotic is good. You mean really intense, right? The trick is to completely, totally relax your body when the vibrations hit. Don't tense up! Just completely flop your body, as if you had no bones or muscles at all.
If the vibrations start to fade, make your body as heavy as possible, make it sink (into your bed, chair, however you are positioned). I find this brings the vibrations back for a few seconds more.
I've never tried the rope technique - - so I can't claim expertise here. I just relax and float out!
