If you listen to the last few minutes of this, she explains the difference between an OBE and a lucid dream. Makes sense to me (they are basically the same, a lucid dream is just a precursor to an OBE which is has been my experience).

The Law of Attraction teacher, Esther Hicks, comments in this clip how OOBEs are the state where you become joined with more of who you really are vs. the waking state. I certainly feel more joyous in this state, no matter what I encounter, so it's an interesting theory.

An acquaintance asked if I would ask a question for him while I was OOB and I thought it would be an interesting experiment since when I ask a personal question or want to go to a specific location I often don't get a satisfactory result.

So recently when I slipped out I asked to speak to my friend's guides and right away I was sucked down a tunnel, into a starry night sky and into a school setting. I asked one of the teachers if I could talk to my friend's guide and he said he could help me. The information (mostly that I received in graphic sign form) was spot on for my friend and included things I had no prior knowledge of. I tried this again for another friend and had another positive result.

I encourage experienced projectors to try the same since it makes sense that we can be more impartial filters for information for others (just as psychics claim they can't read themselves but can others).

This morning instead of flying to my destination my astral body was static and I saw a Google Earth type of wider view which focused down to a view of a city and then a building and down to an office and then I found myself in the office. I've always wondered if an aspect of me was doing the traveling or if I was just projecting my consciousness and viewing it as you would pick a television signal (similar to how remote viewers 'see'). After this experience I'm thinking this is probably how it works and the flying sensation is just the mind trying to make sense of it tuning in to another location/dimension.

Last night during an OOBE I found myself in a Chinese diner with a bunch of ninjas jumping around and I watched amused until I felt a sharp stabbing pain in my left lower back so I woke myself up. I've felt heat when someone was doing the flamethrower thing at me before but never pain. Has anyone else? I felt fine when I awoke although it was a little tingly where I had felt the stab.

This is a little long but has some good nuggets on Abraham/Esther Hicks' interpretation of OBEs. (Skip ahead to 4 or 7 minutes if you don't want to hear the woman's long-winded question.)

In particular I like her interpretation that OBEs are us releasing enough resistance that we're able to consciously join our higher self and feel the joy of being the whole of who we really are from a broader perspective. I don't think I've ever felt such exhilaration in waking life as I do in some OBEs so this makes sense to me.

Also interesting is that we can't usually re-create peak OBEs because those experiences are answers to questions or desires we had at the time however we can remember how to "focus and allow/release resistance" that created that experience to feel the joy of it again (not unlike peak meditation experiences).

For the last few months I find myself lifting out and flying in the 3D black world and when I start seeing a visual it's a series of elaborately decorated interior rooms that I fly through - sometimes up to a dozen of rooms that keep forming one after another.

Any similar experiences or idea of what these rooms represent? I find it a big frustrating because I feel they're acting as barriers keeping me from getting to F3 where the most interesting people, conversations and places seem to be.

As often happens when sleeping at a new place, I run into new characters. While in a hotel room and lying on my back I had a vivid experience of someone clawing at my chest. I awoke and went into an OBE and there was a threatening man by the bed wearing construction gear and a woman cowering in the chair opposite. I asked what he was doing and he said he had died at a construction site nearby and murdered this woman but seemed sorry for it. I asked them if they had looked for the light but they were too ashamed or afraid to go, so I offered to take them so the man grabbed my ankle as I flew off and I took the woman by the arm. We zoomed up for awhile until the man slipped off (Robert Monroe talks of how souls automatically slip away at their designated 'level') and then I reached what looked like a fancy hospital waiting room. I took the woman to the counter and they gave us a form and I noticed one of the lines said "recommended reading material: The Book of Mormon" which I thought was odd but made me think we must have ended up in one of the F3 belief system areas and this is where she belonged at this time.

I then found myself with a counselor who was very warm and friendly and she said she would take of the woman. I asked her about the chest clawing experience and she said that being was trying to take some of my energy and that was how I translated it. I've been lukewarm on the idea of retrievals but perhaps there is something to it afterall, plus why not do something productive while you sleep?

Any similar experiences/thoughts? In particular, I'm curious if you've experienced anything like a waiting room.

After an OOBE this morning and flying around in limbo world I decided to take some initiative and create a window instead of waiting for one to appear or end up somewhere random.

After concentrating on visualizing a window I was happy when I an elaborate frame appeared. Then after visualizing who I wanted to see inside it and was satisfied with the result, I flew in and had my experience. After awhile within that scene I decided to create another window and the same frame came up and again I concentrated until I got what I wanted and flew in again.

The advantage of this technique is that I'm more lucid in the transitional limbo world so I'm more consciously choosing my scenario before being caught up in the action.

I read "One Taste: The Journals of Ken Wilber" and he claims after years of meditating to be able to stay lucid/conscious nearly all night during his sleep  and that many Tibetan monks are able to do the same.

In all my years of lucid dreaming/OOBEs I've probably not achieved more than 90 minutes during one night (and am not sure I'd want to since being unconscious has it's benefits).

Just read this book by Brian Greene and although it's extremely academic I could still follow along.

It proposes just about theory out there so he's very open-minded which I appreciate. If anyone has read this and has a favorite theory, let me know. Mine is the 'holographic universe' mixed with a little 'multiverse' (probably because I've read all the Seth books and he proposes something like this).

I love Radiohead's new song "Separator" - reminds me of what it feels like to be OOB. Here's the lyrics and the link.

It's like I'm falling out of bed
From a long, weary dream
The sweetest flowers and fruits hang from the trees
Falling off the giant bird that's been carrying me
It's like I'm falling out of bed from a long and vivid dream

Just exactly as I remember
Every word
Every gesture
I'm a heart in cold ground

Like I'm falling out of bed
From a long and weary dream
Finally I'm free of all the weight I've been carrying

Every woman blows her cover
In the eye of the beholder
I'm a fish now out of water

Falling off a giant bird that's been carrying me

I fell open
I laid under
At the tip out
I was just a number

I wanna slip it over
And get back under
And if you think this is over
Then you're wrong
If you think this is over
Then you're wrong

(Wake me up, wake me up)

If you think this is over
Then you're wrong
If you think this is over
Then you're wrong

(Wake me up, wake me up)

Like I'm falling out of bed from a long and weary dream
Finally I'm free of all the weight I've been carrying

When I ask you again
When I ask you again
Wake me up, wake me up

As background, after years of meditating I spontaneously started having lucid dreams and OBEs about 10 years ago and now nearly every morning. I've read most of the books on the subject and use the 'rope climbing' technique which is the most effective and quickest for me.

Early this morning during my first OBE I entered my usual black space 'staging area' where I felt a rush of air and forward momentum. I came to a  large movie screen that unfolded and an on-screen man started firing a gun at me with big balls of light coming out. The man was 2-D but the balls of light were 3D and came towards me. I decided not to be afraid and held out my hand to block the light balls and woke up. This was similar to an unusual OBE a few days ago when I asked to go to my Akashic records and I encountered a detailed cartoon figure that blocked my progress and blew up. I woke up, had another OBE and ran into the very same character which also blew up as if I was in a computer game and the same program looped.

After this morning's movie screen OBE, I had another and decided to chant 'Om'. Singing or chanting really elevates my flying/experience and this time others joined in and then a full musical accompaniment. Lovely. I ended up in a garden setting with a classical Greek-like monument and I said to myself that this seemed familiar and I wondered if it was an astral plane construction and a soft English woman's voice say 'yes'. I asked who she was and she said 'Rebullous' and she was my guide. I asked for how long and she said 'from the beginning'. Then a woman appeared who I assumed was her and said I was getting into dangerous territory and I needed to avoid the Queen and at that moment another woman appeared and grabbed my left wrist and started to cut it. That freaked me out so I decided to wake up rather than fight back and when fully awake I saw an angry ghost head above the bed for a few seconds and asked her to leave and she dissolved. This gave me serious pause because not only did the dream seem more threatening than usual but as sometimes happens when I have a scary dream that same character in a holographic ghostly form is in my room when I awake making me think it's not just my dream imagination but a thought form/being.

But that didn't stop me from inducing another OBE and I found myself in another outdoor classical setting and a woman immediately introduces herself as Anna, my guide (the name Anna has come up as my guide before). I get a good vibe from her and she said I've been getting into dangerous territory lately with my OBEs and that it's safe once I get to "Zion" where I am now. She then walks me to a round temple and seats me in a chair and said they are going to teach me how to have safer OBEs. Unfortunately I then wake up with a start.

What to make of all this? After having fairly typical flying OBEs to cities or among clouds or those that morph into regular dreams, these are hyper-vivid and longer and seem to be warnings or blocking my travels. Are these just another barrier our unconscious throws up like the clanking sounds or threatening voices I used to have when I first starting having OBEs? I think there's really nothing to fear so I'm going to keep exploring these new realms and do my best to stay in a meditative/higher vibrational state while doing so. Any advice or similar experiences would be most welcome.
