1 in 2 mornings I wake up, I luckily remember to try and have OBEs before I'm "too" awake. There are a multitude of methods I can go about getting there (phasing / relax into sleep paralysis + roll out / and others). Lets just say I'm very experienced at all the sensations / mental states / techniques / etc that go with it and its very easy to have 4-5+ projections in one morning.

However still a year and a half into this I cannot pull myself into an OBE from meditation- that is to say being awake and deciding to meditate and try to OBE. I can get the feeling of my body very light and floaty, I can get spinning sensations, etc etc. But my mind just won't let go it seems. I can't seem to find out what the secret is to bypassing this 'wall' that separates point a, as deep as I can go in meditation, from point b, that only barely awake state I'm in after waking that is SO easy to project from.

I've thought about going the mental exhaustion route. Any suggestions?

I've never managed to have an OBE from straight up meditation from being fully awake in the couple years I've been trying. That doesn't bother me too much actually. All my OBEs aka Astral Experiences aka Lucid dreams have happened during or after sleep sessions. Most of them happen after waking from sleep and going right back in. For a while I felt as though I had mastered them- I'd actually just pull the previous dream imagery into my head and focus on it which would suck me in. This was always generally easy if I remembered to actually DO it.

Nowadays I don't do that anymore. My lucid dreaming slowed down imo because of the culmination of understanding I was taught by them which is ultimately they are not that important to be focused on. Don't worry about all the elusive answers of greater reality and start LIVING YOUR LIFE. So my whole path led me to personal growth in the way of realizing its all about living this life to its fullest. All the spiritual understanding is in fact a fundamental part of that, but its not meant to be the main focus by any means. Its a means to an end basically.

Anyhow, recently I've been wanting to bring my lucid dreaming back to regular levels. Just for the unbelievable enjoyment I get out of them, and plus there's still so much I want to experiment with. My life is in order nowadays, so its not by any means going back on what I've learned. Anyhow, I seem to have lost the old way I used to do things. Not that I can't, but I started doing it differently and suddenly the experiences started changing. Instead of that 'phasing' approach where I focused into the dream, once I wake from sleep I simply relax and empty my mind and let myself fall into the dreamstate. However, it seems everytime this happens now I get an EXTREMELY violent sleep paralysis experience where it feels like my chest is about to explode as well as everything around me. At first I was thinking this is the whole natural fear thing causing a bad experience but the thing is I've gotten over fear completely because of previously long trend of bad lucid dreams and sleep paralysis. I can shutoff bad experiences by simply calming myself. But these now which were actually just raw uncomfortableness and overwhelmingness, didn't seem like negative attackers quite- especially since I was focusing on not being afraid so as not to spawn that stuff. So why were they still happening?

That's what I think I've figured out.. Are these vibrations, just really violent ones? It kind of makes sense.. Instead of directly phasing which is known for its ease and general lack of virbrations, I'm doing something that is in a sense making my mind fade away my body and let the dreamstate come to me, which could make sense that the vibrations exist in this kind of action. Which means next time it happens (tomorrow morning probably) if I can just hang on and stay completely calm through it I'll make it to the end. But I'm not sure if its worth it, perhaps I should focus on trying to go back to the phasing-type technique I used to use.

Does it make sense to say that you would be unable to project from a position that you cannot fundamentally fall asleep from? Such as lying on my back.. It is simply impossible to fall asleep from there.. It means I don't fall asleep while meditating, but then I wonder if its also hindering me in that same sense in that I can't get deep enough? Because as far as I've realized, projecting is pretty much the same as falling asleep. So projecting from being fully concious (as opposed to waking up after sleep) is basically putting yourself to sleep and that is something I definately can't do on my back.

Welcome to Metaphysics! / My Aura?
January 04, 2005, 00:37:11
When meditating I often start with my eyes open for a good while. When my eyes get very relaxed after a while I think I see my own aura. Its a very bright rainbow of colors. What does that mean exactly? I only have basic knowledge of what the colors represent like pink/red means love/compassion and yellow for deep thought... That's about it.

Anyhow, just curious. I certainly don't think it would be a bad thing. I consider myself a very positive and balanced invidividual which is why I've been wanting to see what my aura would look like. I can't seem to view auras whenever I want though. It takes a great deal of time of focused relax stare before I see anything.

I hardly know if I can call myself experienced in this area but I have most certainly had some conflicts that I have had to rise against. And so I want to make this list for everyone of the basics that have helped me overcome things for myself and ultimately made me feel ready for anything in the future.

1) Rid yourself of fear. Realize that fear only hurts you. You have nothing to be afraid of because YOU are in control, and YOU have the power to stop any threat. In many cases, fear is in fact the *cause*. Often ridding yourself of fear will immediately stop the problem.

2) Be apathetic towards your 'enemy'. They're just a joke. They're worthless. Nothing but an annoyance. Why even care? Shrug it off. This seems to have a reflective effect. If you do nothing, they do nothing. Once they're gone, you'll probably never see them again.

3) Rely on yourself. I assure you that self-doubt is far worse than anything that may try to bother you. Look at your enemy and WILL him to leave with everything you have, and he'll have no chance. The 'dark side' so to speak is for the weak. Remember that.

I have lots of lucid dreams.. Most are insignificant- I'm usually experimenting with things and they don't last but for a few minutes. Pretty much all of my lucid dreams are WILDs, where I wake up then purposely slip myself back into my last dream and am immediately lucid. Or I just feel for the sleep feeling and pop back into any random dream and I'm lucid. When I manage to do this I can usually do 4-5 or more lucid dreams in a row.

Recently upon waking one morning and was ready for some lucid dream action, I just kind of relaxed.. something just seemed different from my usual 'feel' when I get ready to move into some lucid dreams. This time I just felt this supreme relaxation and 'right'-ness in my mind, and I felt myself actually floating up. I went with the feeling. Then click, I'm not there anymore. I am suddenly standing on what seemed to be a pier. I don't remember there being water.. I don't remember seeing anything around it, it might as well have been a pier in the sky so to speak. Standing in front of me was a woman who immediately spoke before I even had time to gather myself. She said "we've been expecting you". I can't remember what she looked like as its been a while since I had the dream and I hadn't started my dream journal yet (stupid me). However, there was an immediate and obvious feel of kindness and friendliness from her. That is all I really remember. She had me follow her into this.. place. It was like a school/recreational area/social gathering all in one. We first passed through what seemed to be a massage parlor / sexual recreation area. Looking back on it, that first area really seemed to be like a test of distraction. But as I have learned to not be distracted in my lucid dreams by anything like that, I kept following the woman into the next area. It was like one giant endless white complex. There were people everywhere, halls and rooms everywhere. We went in some rooms where I saw people I had seen all throughout my life. People I probably saw years ago and never even knew by name. People sitting in classes, some teaching things, talking about things, or just socializing. I followed the woman, who was apparently my guide here, through many rooms where I met all kinds of fascinating people. It just went on and on and on.. It was like a great introduction. Eventually I think I may have drifted off and turned it into a dream, but I really can't be for certain. This.. experience, lasted for 2 hours. At first I thought it was a lucid dream (by that I mean the first 2 seconds I appeared in it, but that was quickly put out of my mind and I simply went with it). The thing is, it didn't feel like a lucid dream. It 'felt' like something more. Never once did things seem awry, never once did I use or even desire to use a 'power'. Also, when I have lucid dreams I simply slide into them by focusing on dream imagery. There are never vibrations or floating sensations or anything. I should also mention, on the scale of lucidity (and by that I mean how real it was and how aware I was) this was definately a 9-10. This experience has stayed with me well beyond most of the lucid dreams I've had, and I consider it, whatever it was, to kind of be one of the milestones of my personal progress.

I'm curious what you all think of what happened. Has anyone experienced anything similar to this? Do you think it was a lucid dream or perhaps I had an Astral Projection?

hello Draege.

My only comment and advice really is this: one system or way of projection does not work for everyone, so what I suggest is to do a bit of looking into the many methods.

In order to get this to work you might have to research yourself first. Find out how you learn best (by hearing, seeing, doing things, ect.) there are online tests you can take if you are not sure what kind of learner you are.

then, keeping that in mind, look for a system of projection. I can list several on this site that can get you started, besides of course the obvious robert bruce methods.

Cube's method: http://www.astralpulse.com/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=13262&whichpage=1
(I list this one because a lot of people seem to be having success with it.)

I would run a search on this site for all of them. After you find one that seems to fit best with how you learn stick with it.

Keep trying - and relax.  Surrender to the experience.   Before you go to bed, or begin to meditate for trance, LD or OOB, say a short prayer for focus and guidance.   Accept that no harm will come to you, that it is merely the next natural evolution of your life path.  Don't obsess over it or worry about it - just accept it.

...and keep trying.

Hi there Draege !

I hope that you have some success soon - it sounds to me like you will.

Anyway I'm at the point where I feel my very next try could be successful.

I reckon that a person's ability to have an OBE is a function of their willingness to believe in it. Any doubts at all will get in the way of succeeding, concious or unconcious.

By the way, i'm going to give your "sing to yourself" techinque a go, and see what happens !

Mark

Hey Draege,
I haven't had a successful obe yet, but I'm trying. :) I think I have trouble because when I get all tingly I start to "feel" it in my body. Where, what I'm starting to think now, the real point is to "forget" your body. Just let it sleep and be. Forget it by concentraiting 100% however you are focusing whether it is breathing, energy raising, or exit techniques...
I find I reach trance when I forget the body. You said this worked for you too: "Towards the end I gave up on techniques or trying to imagine feelings and just thought I'd try and force my mind into a lower conciousness (i.e. near sleep). Wow did that work." You ignored your bodies sensations and just focused on concentrating your mind. Keep that up!!!
I think that's good that you just stayed there in the heavy vibrations. I guess you want to get used to that, like trance, so that when you reach that level you aren't excited and throw yourself out of it. But if you do want to get out, I believe that is the time you try to trigger the projection either by bouncing your mental focus to a point outside of your body, or by rope, imagining you are rolling out or some other technique. Again I'm not sure, because I haven't gotten out yet...
The one itme I did have heavy vibrations I got astral vision... did this happen to you? I also am having trouble relaxing when sensations start. Keep up the focus. Sounds like you're really close.

Greetings Draege,
It's quite common to get vibrations without noise!  Not only does it vary between people, but it varies between your own experiences!  The first time I got vibrations, it was accompanied by a humming, but ever since then, I just feel the vibes.

The sounds that are often discussed aren't always about vibes.  When in a deep trance and when your etheric body expands, you become susceptible to auditory noise.. doors being slammed, whips cracking, voices, etc.  These are indications of deep trance and eminent projection.

Also, keep in mind, not everybody gets vibes either.  [;)]

Welcome to Out of Body Experiences! / Me

Hmm. I skimmed through the last couple paragraphs. Interesting stuff. Here is my suggestion. See your doctor, get these "abilties" checked out and make sure they are safe.

Im pretty sure your body isnt gonna let it hurt itself. I would experiment with these sensations, but as i said, just check with your doctor first to be safe heh.. then go off and try it while sleeping or whatever... if you think you have something, explore it.
