Hi all

I don't post much but I do lurk the forums at times and have picked up some good info, enabling me to have experiences like the following.
I was hoping someone may be able to help me better understand what's going on. Here's what happened

There have been a few times when I was meditating where I began to feel an immense pressure in my head accompanied by a loud, distorted noise. In my visual field was what could be described as a spinning vortex that I felt drawn to. Feeling that there is something on the other side of the vortex, I desired to pass through. It would begin to circle faster and faster, and one time I made it through. I was transported to some sort of black room with a few geometric shapes surrounding me. I got way too excited and lost the connection.

Today I got to this spinning vortex/head pressure state but was a bit more relaxed about it. I decided not to attempt to pass through the vortex, but began to look around. I was in the same room I began this experience in, in the same position, but patterns were dancing on the walls (much like a trip). This time another unique thing happened - the distorted noise was replaced with a drill sound (EXACTLY like a drill). I was in this state for what felt like a few minutes and lost connection.

Has anybody had a similar experience? I have no idea how to navigate this headspace and would like to have the opportunity to explore the area, but for whatever reason, the experience ends rather quickly and time doesn't permit exploration. Any hints on how to stay connected, longer?

Here is a bit of background on my AP history -

I've known about AP for a little over 6 months now and practiced it here and there (I'd guess 1-2x a week). About a month ago, I started to practice more (5-7x a week) and I haven't yet been able to AP. I've gotten the vibration sensation a couple of times and lately I've been frequently getting a slight "stomach drop" sensation.

However, I find it extremely difficult to get into a trance state because of what I believe to be my chronic insomnia. It takes me at least an hour to fall asleep every night (if i'm lucky), often I'll be trying to fall asleep for 2-3 hours. From what I've learned, that state where you are about to fall asleep is the time when AP is possible. However, I'm really not familiar with the falling asleep sensation because it is so difficult for me to experience.

What will help me get into the trance state?

The biggest reason I got into AP was because of my life long insomnia..I'm hoping I can find an answer through it
