I took some time off from trying to learn AP (I've been a fairweather attempter for the past few years) when I went to my first year of college.

A few days ago, I got interested again. I read Astral Pulse before going to bed, then woke around 4:30 am. I didn't move, and attempted to imagine myself APing. I got the vibrations, felt scared, and cut it short. But it felt too convenient, too easy, and I didn't feel like I was in that special a mental state. It felt different from being fully awake, but I could still think in words ("maybe i'll envision being downstairs now...), just not as clearly (right word?) as when I'm awake.

Strange.

Happened 2-3 times since, so it's either a recurring dream (maybe I could go lucid? who knows) or some kind of pre-AP phenomenon?

I've read through all the posts and have a pretty good grasp of the theories and techniques, so now i'm trying to make something out of it all

i have a few questions

first, would you recommend NEW or should I pass?

second, should I begin by aiming to AP or should I just learn typical meditation and let AP occur when I've mastered concentration?
or maybe I should both meditate and practice AP at the same time?

third, often when i meditate i drift into dreams that are more vivid than normal. I usually have some part of me that's still awake during them, so could I phase into the dream and turn it into a lucid one?

thanks for the help

How exactly do you meditate in a sitting position? all my attempts have led to my head falling forward or back as i got into a deep state

I've been trying to AP since last June (I worked hard at it throughout summer, but when school started i've been sleep deprived) and i've had no results since maybe september, when i felt vibes and almost got out

but NO RESULTS SINCE THEN!

AHH! is there something i'm doing wrong? should i give up? do you guys have any helpful literature? I have astral dynamics, but i can't seem to find the file library of astral pulse

meditative and astral projection techniques "2 seperate things"

meditative is by using koans and duality to quietening the mind.. for traveling in the 6/7 dim.

projection isn't quietening its focus is on concentration.  Which ever method you are using .. concentrate really hard.

the voices of your mind rambling on is your inner ego "the "i's" that exist within.

whats your objective? if its meditation you should do your meditation prior to going to bed and using one of the techniques given above. (duality or koan).  If its to Astral project, sincere desire and enthusiasm and die hard concentration is all it takes.  when starting out it helps if you set your alarm clock 2 times (at 2am & 4am) giving you a number of chances to project.  some other great techniques is to question throughout the day if your in reality by giving a jump or pulling your finger method.. that way repetition will make its way into your dreams if you happen not to project and once you notice your flying or your finger stretching then you'll be able to verify its a dream and exscape it.

Here are two wave files that you can use to make a 10 minute beeper CD. Put the beep at the start of the CD so you can test the volume easily. Then add silence in 5 minute units afterward. Burn the CD and set it to repeat the whole CD.

Another thing you could do is use a sleeping pad by your computer. Some people specifically move to a new location to do OBEs because their bodies haven't been programmed to fall asleep at that location. If you have an OBE-only location your body supposedly will eventually pick up on that.

Tensing up and trying to force it inhibts the vibrations.  But, once you have them, then it's easier to have them again because you "know" what to expect.

Try this.  Set an alarm clock for 4 am(quietly if you live at home or have roommates).  Get up, go to the bathroom, wash your hands and face with warm water (this is to set you in a proper frame of mind).  Go to the kitchen and make a very light snack, nothing heavy, maybe some sliced melon?  You want to kill at least 1/2 hour before trying your OOB.

Now try your meditation.  Some people think you should try OOBE's from a chair, and I agree.  However, in your case go back to bed.  Prop yourself up a little bit and go through your relaxation techniques into meditation.  What you want to do is try for the vibes and an OBE, but you want to set yourself up for a fallback LD (Lucid Dream).  LD's are more common if you fall asleep vibrating or nearly vibrating.  I tend to have this 10 minute minnie LD's when I fall asleep while power raiseing.  When I come out I'm wide awake and refreshed, and less than 20 minutes has eleapsed since the last time I could see the clock.

This is all a variation of the "Interrupted Sleep" technique.

Now its common the first few times you have the vibes to tense up or get frightened.  Don't be, you know its coming, you've read all about them, so conciously you know what to expect.  Relaxation is the key, and its hard to do sometimes on command.  The worst thing that will happen is you will fall back to sleep [;)]

Hi Skt2K4, sounds like you don't have any problem relaxing, but staying awake. Meditation would probably help here, or maybe concentration exercises. If you ARE looking for relaxation exercises, man there's ton of stuff to choose from. One of my favorites though is autogenics, which you can find on the web. These are quite simple and very effective.
