Welcome to Dreams! / Hypnogogia/Consciousness slip
November 01, 2007, 17:19:08
Hello all

I have been trying very hard recently to increase my lucid dreaming and I have found the absolute best time is when I have already slept for a good portion of the night. I usually when waking up press my snooze button a few times before I actually get up, so this is when I try to go lucid. The reason I find it easier to slip into a lucid dream at this time versus when I initially go to sleep is that I fall sleep way too quickly to be able to control anything, or I control is too much and not fall asleep forever lol.

I will first describe the process, then the question that I have. As I am falling back asleep I can feel myself getting closer and closer to sleep by noticing random thoughts & images coming at me (hypnogogia) and sense dissolvement. When it comes to my senses I am fine and only notice them when I'm flung back to waking consciousness from hypnogogia. If I try force or influence hypnogogic images, I am sometimes successful, though I havn't determined exactly what the reasons are. The best seems to be just letting images come at me, which leads me to my problem...

How can I stay conscious while hypnogogia is going full steam? It seems like from the time intense hypnogogia ensues, there is maybe 30 seconds max. before I am asleep. What I seem to be struggling with is separating myself from hypnogogia, while still falling asleep. I believe this is one of the reasons why I am normally not successful when making images in my mind to fall into - that is I keep one eye on the image and one eye on my consciousness. When I let the images come to me I am significantly more successful by most of the time I just fall asleep because I am overcome by them & I lose waking consciousness.

The reason why I have been investigating this so much lately is that I used a technique I read in LaBerge's "Exploring the World of Lucid Dreaming," which was magnificently successful - so successful, I would suppose, that the excitement of lucid dreaming in seconds causes some of the problems I mentioned above. The technique I'm taking about is really simple, all you do is count as you're falling asleep - 1, I'm dreaming; 2, I'm dreaming; 3, I'm dreaming, etc. until you are asleep and dreaming when you will say to yourself "32, I'm dreaming," and you'll actually be dreaming! The first time I used it was incredible, like the curtains to my dream has been opened; I went from falling asleep & sorting through hypnogia to fully dreaming with no break in consciousness.

So what I am wondering is, how do I manage this rough terrain? It seems like I either give in and fall asleep hoping I wake up in a dream (which I do sometimes) or lie there waiting to fall asleep because I've twisted my mind up so much that I can't even pass through the hypnogogic stage.

Thanks

Welcome to Out of Body Experiences! / Concentration
October 11, 2007, 21:20:13
Hello!

I've been thinking lately that one's ability to concentrate must be the single most important factor in the out of body experience. While attempting to project and even after you project (probably even moreso!) one must "keep their eye on the prize," as they say. My experience with projection is limited but while I am out how well I am able to stay focused has an enormous impact.

I guess the main reason I'm posting this is because of the potential for people attempting fully conscious projections. During a period that I regularly attempted to project consciously, I would get close, my mind would start getting "out there" and my body would be falling asleep, but my mind would glitch and I would be shot back to my body and feeling major energy movements throughout. If I were able to have single-pointed awareness throughout the process I believe at least I, and I think this definitely would extrapolate to others, would have a much, much better chance of projecting consciously.

I fully realized the potential for this when I first listened to the gateway series and read through Frank's notes. Frank describes how many people try and use Hemi-Sync to get them to project just by letting it happen and hoping that they will just sudden shoot out, though he saw that as the wrong approach. What Frank tried to do with Hemi-Sync was to create his astral entry way while letting the bineural beats and the choreographed scenes help him make everything more "real" - by concentrating his efforts. In every single way, I realized that this technique was entirely dependent upon one's ability to concentrate, without wavering one bit, on what they were trying to do (create a path to the astral, in this case).

So instead of just throwing out a bunch of claims, I have thought of a few solutions, though anyone is free to add whatever they feel is relevant.

First of all - COMPLIMENT your projection efforts with a known technique to increase concentration and focus.

I stress compliment because it seems like many people want to just use one technique i.e. Hemi-Sync and work work work until it happens. I believe that if you work on getting accustomed to your preferred technique, while making your mind more focused, you will see results much sooner.

I personally am working on my ability to concentrate through meditation, which there are many forms of. The technique I am using comes from "Meditation," by Eknath Easwaran.

There are a few books that look like they've received good reviews at Amazon.com, but I have not read any in particular. Hopefully some others may have good recommendations.

Well, I guess that's all I really have for now...I'll do some searching on the web to see if I can find some reputable techniques.

Good luck!

Hey all...quick question here

So for the past six months or so I have noticed taht when I take naps I will fairly commonly have lucid dreams, non-lucid intense dreams, or I will project. I most often will fall asleep then "wake up" about to leave my body or else already in my room. It seems like I actually have already left my body though, because I normally just float away.

In order to undrstand my question I will explain what just happened to me. I just got up from a nap and I had an experience. I "woke up" in my room, though "whoa cool!" and floated around, looked at things. As I looked around it seemed kind of hard for me to look and things weren't looking right. I also had a somewhat hard time moving at times. As my lucidity decreased, I think I went through some walls and into other rooms in the house. All those things seem to be common in my experineces: "wake up" outside of body, things seem not real, have a hard time moving, etc. Oh yeah and when this happens, I usually "project" several times in a row, e.g. "wake up," lose lucidity then "fall asleep" or whatever, then either wake up for real or "wake up" again, etc. I usually have about...3, i think, on average.

I have come to the conclusion this is probably an astral realm, but there's also the lingering question of it being a lucid dream, which then gets us into the "is dreaming astral projection?" debate.

SO! lol what I am wondering is what exactly is happening, what "realm" am I in and how can I make the most of these experiences? Thank you so much!

Heyy everybody!

A while ago I had a pretty interesting projection, which I still don't understand. I was taking a nap after eating a thanksgiving meal and "woke up" during the nap Realizing what was going on, I rolled out of my body. Once my body got to the point where it would have hit the floor everything when black and I was flying through space. Strangely enough I could feel air hitting my face and I could hear it going past my ears. I saw stars and galaxies like in hubble pictures. I was amazed but realized that this was a perfect opportunity to try and contact my spirit guides. I said outloud "I want to meet my spirit guides." I immediately stopped and there was a giant book (~10') infront of me titled "summer 2003." It was brown and I got the impression it was a journal, but I don't keep a journal and havn't ever kept one. I thought for a while, confused, trying to understand this. I made my statement again, and was shown another book, which was blue with orange letters titled something along the lines of, "the only way to understand love is to feel it"; long title, i know! I tried to understand it but got confused and eventually woke up. :?

Do you guys think that my guides are trying to say I need to learn more before I meet them, or....??  I would really like to understand this because I am pretty intent on meeting my guides "in person."

Thanks! :D

Has anyone done this??

Once my out of body skills are good enough and I'm out of college I'm going to spending a lot of time in the akashic library, for sure.

Has anyone come up with something even semi-revolutionary in their field of study through out of body experiences and well even lucid dreams?

I would think all the projecting physicists out there would be very keen on this!

When I become a neurochemist I will do all I can, physically and astrally to revolutionize my field. :)

I heard or read somewhere that the man who came up with correct design for the benzene ring found in in one of his dreams!

ohhhk well, here's the thing: Yesterday I was having a semi-lucid dream I guess is the best thing I can think of. Technically it wasn't but, it sort of was. I fell asleep creating my dream and I think during the dream I didn't realize I had completely fallen asleep so I was still thinking that I was creating this dream. Anywho, one thing led to another and suddenly I found myself taken back to my body, which was experiencing a dramatic increase in vibrations. I thought, "here we go!" 8) and just waited. My third eye was fluttering a lot then I started to hear a lot of voices, which I thought was kinda neat.

Everything stopped after the voices and I felt myself slide out, so I hovered backward and off of my bed, hit the ground and stumbled into my closet, seeing a mirror across the room (which doesn't exit), once I stopped. I was really, really unbelievably excited and I thought I was in the RTZ, so stumbled over to the door to put my hand through it, which failed :( I remembered reading in AD that you might have to clear your mind and do things like that, so I decided I didn't want to spend this entire time trying to get out of my room, since my room was incredibly strange. My bed was in a 90 degree angle to it's real position, there was a tv and stand at the foot it, etc. TONS of random stuff. I just stood there and wondered what all this was. I then remembered that I read in AD that new projectors should keep their OBE's short, so I looked for a while longer and woke myself up.

SO! was this an astral representation of my room? I didn't think the RTZ can switch so quickly. It was almost the second I left my bed I realized something was awry as I floated over a baby sitting on my floor before I myself landed on the floor. There's no baby in my room, or in the house.

Ok now these tek's I've been working on. It seems like this is the way it's going: If I imagine myself walking somewhere in real life, something that I can imagine in detail I always get snapped back feeling, I think vibrations. If the feeling that led up to my projection yesterday were truely vibrations, then these must be vibrations, and it also seems like I can feel vibrations any time of the day, keeping this all in line.

The times that I've meditated trying to relax myself to make a conscious exit, I feel a "buzzing" I guess, in my body, that increases the deeper I go.  The best example I can give of this feel is sort of like the body buzz one feels after a few beers, but with a sober mind.  So these times that I get snapped back this "buzzing" or possibly vibrations, is really intense. So I thought Ah hah! :D I am leading my awareness outside my body when I do this, correct? Is this feeling really vibrations then? it doesn't seem that spectacular. I can actually sit here and...well the best way I can describe it is "flex" my energetic muscles and I feel that sensation. I thought vibrations were a little harder to come by? :?

If this is all right so far, I have come to the conclusion that I need to work on my concentration and focus. If I stay concentrated on the action I'm thinking of outside my body, my focus will go downhill, eventually. I'll start having random thoughts, etc. I'll just kind of "loose it," if you know what I mean.

I think this exact same tek could work for a lucid dream as well. I was actually experimenting with it this morning. I start something in my imagination, trying to stay concentrated and focused, and sometimes It will suddenly snap into feeling exactly like real life (is this when the real dream begins?)  and I'll loose my concentration. Sometimes it takes a little while, I'll retain my concentration, but my focus will quit on me and I'll start having random dream thoughts

The reason why I have lumpted these two techniques together is it seems like they require the same things: concentration and focus. If I have been right all the way now, how do I increase my concentration and focus? Even if I'm attempting the AP tek I seem to loose my focus easy because I'm so relaxed. I think it could turn into a dream pretty easily. But if my focus stays intact, most of the time my concentration will eventually fail, which when I get snapped back, feeling like I'm about to leave my body. I  never have had a conscious exit, but there have been times where I *think* I have come very close, e.g. I feel like I'm floating, this "buzzing" or vibrations are increadibly intense, sometimes my chakras are going wild, etc. How far do I have to go from that point?

Oh btw that was my second full conscious OBE, mind you not conscious exit, but just a conscious OBE. I've had other ones that pretty much went haywire, but this one I knew exactly what was going on. And my first one I started out flying through space, which is why I assumed I was in the RTZ for this second one.

Thanks so much for at least taking the time to read this! :) Thoughts and Opinions are welcome too ;)

I was thinking, with all the people here that can project and do other neat things, what is the most interesting experience you have had? Good or bad. I am not very experienced, unfortunately, so my most interesting experience would be feeling like I'm floating; hopefully in the future it will be visiting the Akashic Records!

Welcome to Metaphysics! / Etheric or Astral Arms
January 06, 2003, 22:59:21
First of all I have to ask, have any of you ever been REALLY tired either waking up or going to sleep and then you realize that something needs to be done, turning the radio down, etc. and you want to do it so you reach your arm over to turn it down but you can feel it and you think it's real and then realize that you actually didn't do anything. My question is, are these my etheric or astral arms that I'm using to turn down this physical alarm clock?

My brother said this had never happened to him but it happens to me all the time, maybe I'll have better luck on here. If these were truly my astral arms I might be able to use this to do some cool things so I'm really curious. Thanks in advance.

I really want to use the search so i don't need to make so many posts (unless I absolutely have to) Ii'm not sure what to do.  Thanks in advance.

I'm just starting this energy thing so I'm not really sure what I'm doing, and If i'm doing it right. First of all, when i'm doing the tactile imaging and the awareness stuff, does it matter if I picture what is happening to my body? I have a hard time not doing it, and I don't get huge sensations so i'm not sure if my imagination is prohibiting me or what? This leads me to my second question: whats with my toes!! i can't get any feeling out of them, I think yesterday i felt one of the secondary chakras in my big toe when i was doing the sole work, but besides that, I can never feel my other toes, especially individual toes. Doing the awarenss on each toe is too hard for me, unless its a spectacular sensation, I wouldn't be able to tell if its coming from the right toe. The only way i feel anything is if i do the brushing over all toes then I feel a mild sensation. Sorry about the long thread but I'd really appreciate some responses, i know theres a lot of knowledgable people here!

When you are outside of the mandala, i.e. not an initiated meber of an esoteric school, then 99% of what people call "meditation" is just the mind reflecting "whatever" to them.  In these instances energy is used up.  Alchemy, done correctly, teaches you how to move energy upward in frequency so that the energy you need for mental activity can be increased.
In an esoteric school, a real one, all of your training aims at increasing consciousness...not mind.  It is a very different focus of attention and efforts.  This kind of work doesn't as much burn up energy as it produces energy.
Energy thus generated is similar to water in that it will go to it's lowest level.  In humans this is the lowest forms of energy you use in dauly life.  You can learn excellent methods for conscious work...then blow all the energy on drugs or liquor or other things that sap the life energy from your system.
What easterners call "chi" is 99% using the imagination to cause effects in the mind or on the body.  What easterners call "maya" or "illusion".  (Or delusion if you use drugs.)

SilverSlider,

Obviously someone came into your room while you where asleep. Who ever it was, was looking for something in your room or drawer (is there anything missing?). The spot on the floor suggest someone drugged you, by pouring a sleep inducing drug on a cloth or something and holding it up to your nostrils. This situation is more common than you think.

I find I work on my charkras while meditating now out of habit.

I originally found it very useful for energy raising and ultimately phasing. I also found concentrating on my chakras while meditating to not only be very beneficial for energy work, it also kept me focussed and stopped me from falling asleep.

It isn't really clear to me if you are describing a problem or what that problem might be. You want to adjust your meditation. That is the part I understand. The first question is what parts of your meditation do you enjoy most? The second question is how can you adjust it to be more enjoyable now, with your current abilities?

I do the exact same. altho i dont know if i do rock or it feels like it...am curious to find out other opinions...

Your enviroment affects your sleeping state profoundly. Everything, from what you are wearing, to what you hear, and smell can affect your dream state.

It is very common for people to listen to various tyes of music during sleep to achieve different things.  It is all a matter of finding out how different sounds affect you personally.

The most anoying and repeating thing I have happen to me is my alarm clock.  When it goes off I while I am asleep and dreaming I will often have dreams that something else in the dream is making the noise.  Usually some thing that would not normally make noise, like a chair.  In the dream I find myself looking for the noise and track it to the object.  I usually try to get it to stop and often in the end I break the object and it never does stop making noise.  I usually wake up pretty grumpy after one of those.

I have had some really bazare dreams while falling asleep in a room with  some one playing video games.  The music and sounds from the game creep into the dream and cause some interesting side effects.

Your recruiter's job is to lie to you. The moment you sign up, your recruiter's job is done and your recruiter is likely to forget who you are. The fact that you are being ignored now is a sign that your recruiter does not expect you to sign up. They have to meet a monthly quota. They just want to get it over with.

Going directly to college is very popular. I do not suggest it, having been pressured to do it before growing up enough to appreciate it. College was just a reason to put off the responsibility of finding a real job or otherwise choosing a path.

I may start doing this soon as I start luciding more but the best techniques is to do reality checks like inspect objects in real life to see am I dreaming?  In the dreamworld if you glare at an object automatically you will be more and more aware you are dreaming and switch to a lucid state or be in control of the dream and be able to shut it down (go obe afterwards)  or change it according to what you want to say/think believe as true.

#22
Sure. If you can time your breathing in some way with the pace of your steps, that will help. You can also visualize / imagine that your energy is making your body lighter. Looking up at about 45 degrees above horizontal, if you can. Focus your gaze on a single point. Try to relax if you can. Anything that would induce a trance state. Try repeating a mantra with your steps. Naturally, you don't have to do all of these things. Just see what works best for you.

Welcome to Spiritual Evolution! / Meditating on.....
November 22, 2002, 04:33:34
Meditating on any subject is basically just setting aside time for the sole purpose of thinking aout that one thing.  You set aside the time to just sit with a calm mind, no distractions, and think.  Spending the time doing this may or may not bring some important information or feelings to the surface.  For some its kinda like day dreaming.  Try to think about what each choice would bring you and wether it would make you happy, or better yet if it feels like the correct thing to do.
More so it is taking the time to be aware of how each choice and solution make you feel.  Allowing you to make a more prosperous choice, and giving you a chance to listen to that inner voice.

The word could be siddhi, from yoga, meaning accomplishment. The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali go into detail on how to acquire them through meditation. It also says that some powers can be accomplished through pranayama, breathing exercises to control energy.

So that they can feel it? For most of us, so far as I know, our energy is not like the electricity which powers our appliances. It is not quite so tangible or unavoidable as electricity when directed into a person instead of an appliance. Fortunately, people are more sensitive than appliances. What you are relying on is that people will be able to spare the attention from their internal dialogue and that they will recognize that they are perceiving something other than through the usual means. Then you need them to be able to report correctly their experiences. First, get someone who seems receptive and explain what you are going to try. Have the person hold out a hand with the palm up. The receptive hand, the opposite of the dominant hand. The dominant hand is the one you write with. The receptive hand is the other one. Take the index and middle finger of your own dominant hand together to point at the person's receptive hand from about an inch or 2 to 3 centimeters above it. Bringing your awareness and energy into your hand, direct it through your pointing fingers at the other person's receptive hand. You will have to try it on yourself first to see how it feels. Then you can help the person you are testing with to recognize the sensations.

Welcome to Integral Philosophy! / Karma

That's a deep question.  The way I look at things, I basically sum it up as "What goes around, comes around."  Period.  Only do unto others what you would have done unto you.

I take this philosophy into account in everything I do.  If I cut someone off on the freeway, I automatically put my guard up, because I KNOW that this is going to happen to me soon.  When it does and I get cut off, I don't get mad, because I'm consciously aware that "I got what was due to me!"

Might seem strange, but it's a recipe for healthy living.  Even if someone cuts me off without me being owed a "cutting off", I try not to get ticked, because I know if I retaliate, it will just come back to me.

So who decides what's good and bad?  Deep down within myself, I just seem to know what is right and what is wrong.  I would think that we all have this natural born ability, if we listen to our heart.

Yes, everyone experiences this state. It's a naturally phase you go through before falling asleep. There's also the hypnopompic stage: the dream images you experience before waking up.  I hope I didn't switch the words around. I often get them mixed up, because to me the states are very similar.  People usually don't recognize or don't remember the hypnogogic state, because it triggers sleep. You can train yourself to become more aware of your dream images.

In AD Bruce mentions using "reality checking" frequently to help with lucid dreams. If you are used to questioning reality frequently in the physical waking world, you will probably be doing it in dreams. If you remember to check frequently when ever you're at work, it could help.

What happens is a perfect copy of your concious is released. The original with all your memorys is always in your physical body. You really have nothing to worry about.

As for evil,In my own opinion.Nothing can really be evil unless it is personally labeled as so.

Hi,
You notice that your energy is being drained because you start to feel weaker(tired, drained, dizzy, sick ect.).

You know if people have bad energy because when you go near them you have a feeling of a wierd energy. To stop them getting bad energy to you, you could either encase yourself in a ki sheild or look at the next paragraph.

Visualize a black globe spinning slow counter-clockwise above the persons head and it is brushing up and down with the person. Visualize that the black globe stops moving and then stops spinning. It then turns into white energy brushing up and down the person spinning clockwise.

If you dont understand this, just reply.

Are you keeping an active dream journal?  I know it doesn't sound like it'll do any good, but TRUST ME.  The more you write down your regular dreams in the morning, the greater your chances of becoming lucid the next time you're dreaming.

The dream journal also helped me to have OBE's as well.

One of the explanations of enlightenment which I like is that after enlightenment the ego is like an office that is entered in for a day at work, as opposed to a place to be stuck in constantly with no possibility of leaving. Outside that office there is no separation between self and other. There is nothing to protect or keep isolated.

#36
It all depends on the specific individual. Naturally, the sooner a person starts the better. That is more important than current age. Still, a younger person might have advantages in terms of hormone levels and muscle tone. We are all eventually going to reach enlightenment. An older person might have made substantial progress without specifically trying to gain enlightenment. Years of practice cultivating good mental states and eradicating bad mental states does not have to be called meditation, but it can create a basis for meditation that just having higher hormone levels and more muscle tone cannot match.

You can meditate on and through the chakras. Stimulating the chakras directly is a good thing and it is worth your time. Meditation is better. Meditation will take care of your chakras, but developing your chakras won't necessarily bring meditation.
