Hi Everyone -
This is my first post here. I found Astral Pulse after searching around the web today, hungry for information after having what I know now is my first out-of-body experience this past weekend. Im really excited to know that this is for real, that it wasnt a dream, and that I'm able to do this at will.
Ive always been interested in different states of consiousness. Ive had intense lucid dreams randomly since I was a kid (usually several that I can vividly remember every year). Since my early 20's Ive sought to explore other states of reality using psychoactive drugs, and had several fantastic experiences that have deepened my knowledge of my conscious mind, and my appreciation for the metaphysical. Due to the business of everyday life, however, these voyages - while treasured- are usually few and farbetween.
In my research, Ive of course heard of astral projection before but I never really looked into it - a lot of the sites I'd come across would be very vauge in their descriptions, and their explainations would be very unscientific and I would loose interest.
Over the past few weeks Ive noticed an increase in the length of time Ive spent in the hypnogogic state. Ive always payed attention when I drift through this level of consiousness on the way to sleep - I find Ill have a lucid dream more often if I can 'maintain' some level of consious control through this state. Recently, Ive been 'snapping' myself awake from the hypnogogic state - usually when a movement I make in one of these 'brain' movies ends up translating to my physical body. Recently, its become more of a direct translation...for instance a few weeks ago I was envisioning myself at the gym, I went to do an exercise and my physical arms actually moved with my arms in this dream-state - snapping myself awake.
Well Friday night as I drifted off to sleep the hypnogogic dreams came on quickly. So quickly that I was maintaining a low level of conscious control throughout the experience. In this dream, I was driving an invisible car up to a restaurant that had valet parking. (I know it sounds ridiculous) When I got out of the car, the valet said "Mr How can I park that car you're driving a glass box". I looked at my vehicle and sure enough it looked just like a glass box with two front seats and a dashboard, floating a few feet off the ground.
At this instant I became more consciously aware. I knew I was dreaming, but rather than wake up I walked over to the car. I said to valet "No really its a car. Check this out Ill lay on the hood".
As I layed back on the hood, when I felt the hood hit my back, I snapped awake. My eyes opened. I felt this intense tingling around my body, and I realized I was floating above my bed. I was startled, but immedately recognized that I was in some altered state of consiousness. Im assuming my experiences with psychedelics helped me maintain a calm state of mind.
Then I started moving upward toward the ceiling...I felt an exhilaration unlike anyother. This was FOR REAL. As the ceiling approached I kept thinking "go through! go through!' Trying to direct this new experience as best as I could. I stopped at the ceiling, and I heard footsteps from the hallway outside my bedroom. Then i got nervous. I listened again, and again I heard these footsteps. I looked down toward the doorway and I couldnt see anything, but then realized that my physical body and my girlfriend were back in the bed, and I didnt think it would be a good idea to leave them if I felt uncomfortable. With this thought, I quickly fell back to the bed, awash in intense tingling energy. I couldnt move, so I yelled in my mind "WAKE UP WAKE UP WAKE UP" And just like that, I was jolted back to reality - wide awake an hyper-aware. I sat up and looked toward the open doorway, and they're werent any footsteps. What I was hearing must have been something to do with the state I was in. I lay back down and tried to induce this experience a second time, but it felt like my mind was out of 'fuel' for such a thing, so I rolled over and went to bed.
When I woke up the next morning, I felt a familar feeling. The 'afterglow' that is associated with a good psychedelic trip. I know then that something tangible had happened, and hoped that it would happen again.
So last night I tried to invoke this state at will, and I did. Rather than by accident, I was able to reach what I now know is called the 'vibratory state' by trying to duplicate the same series of steps that led me to my first experience. I maintained conscious control inside the hypnogogic state, and when the moment came, I snapped awake and felt the 'energy waves' flow like lightning from my head to my toes. When I started to rise up, I got so excited I lost control, and fell back to my bed. Again commanding myself to "WAKE UP", snapped wide awake. I tried to do it a second time and, just like two nights before, felt mentally drained.
But now I know this was real, and I feel that it will be possible for me to enter this state again at will. Im glad I came upon it, and Im also glad Ive found this site - it seems like there are a lot of intelligent people here and I think that I can learn a lot. Although altered states of consiousness are familar to me - this is an entirely new level. This is absolutely mind-blowing.
I'm thinking of ordering 'Astral Dynamics' from Amazon, as it seems to be a good guide to this kind of thing. I seem to have a handle on inducing the experience, I want to know more about the realms that Ill be able to travel in.
Thanks for listening...
