When I was 12 years old, I had an interesting experience. I woke up in my bed and felt a numb sensation all over my body similar to the sensation that one feels when his or her "foot is asleep", except it was all over my body! I also could hear a buzzing noise. I looked past my door and saw two large, tall, black humanoid entities that just stood in my doorway. I  was frightened, and I looked into the area that was supposed the face of one of them. The face of my father appeared and the entity told me to go back to sleep, and as soon as he said that, I instantly woke up, sitting in the position that I was in while having the experience.
I have been wondering what this was but I may have stumbled upon an explanation. I heard of a book by  Dr. Hank wesselman, who, in his book, has an experience where he encounters a shaman who lives 5000 years in the future. He and the shaman learn from each other, and the shaman tells him that there are great spirits who sometimes send "helper spirits" to susceptible people. These spirits appear to the human, and if the human is curious and not afraid, the spirit opens the "doors" to the spirit world. But if the human is afraid of them, they see this and leave because they don't want to make the human uncomfortable and realize that the human is not ready to access the spirit world. The shaman said that these spirits appear as tall black figures, and the person hears buzzing noises etc. Maybe this is what happened, because I was afraid, and it responded by appearing as my father-an image that brings me comfort- and told me to go back to sleep, which doesn't seem like a very threatening thing to say.
