Put them in a safe place

OH, GREAT. NOT content with claiming that mobile phones fry your brains, new research carried out in Hungary now suggests that they do your nadgers in.

Apparently the study of 220 men showed that a man's sperm count could drop by as much as one third if he used a mobile phone. The worst affected were those men who habitually kept their phones in the trouser pockets or in a belt clip.

Rare discovery is 10 billion times larger than sun

A team of astronomers have found a colossal black hole so ancient, they're not sure how it had enough time to grow to its current size, about 10 billion times the mass of the sun.

Sitting at the heart of a distant galaxy, the black hole appears to be about 12.7 billion years old, which means it formed just one billion years after the universe began and is one of the oldest supermassive black holes ever known.

The black hole, researchers said, is big enough to hold 1,000 of our own Solar Systems and weighs about as much as all the stars in the Milky Way.

Very Muscular Baby Offers Hope Against Diseases

The moment the little boy was born, the hospital staff knew there was something unusual about him. His muscles looked nothing like the soft baby muscles of the other infants in the nursery. They were bulging and well defined, especially in his thighs and upper arms.

"Everybody noticed," said Dr. Markus Schuelke, a pediatric neurologist at Charité University Medical Center in Berlin.

The baby, it turned out in the first such documented case in a human, had a double dose of a genetic mutation that causes immense strength in mice and cattle. Drugs are under development that, investigators hope, will use the same principle to help people whose muscles are wasting from muscular dystrophy or other illnesses. Experts say the little boy, now 4½ and still very strong, offers human evidence for the theory behind such drugs.

Study: Danger of dementia in older, postmenopausal women

CHICAGO - Estrogen pills appear to slightly increase the risk of Alzheimer's disease and other forms of dementia in postmenopausal women, a study found, echoing recent findings involving estrogen-progestin supplements.

The findings contradict the long-held belief that estrogen pills can help keep older women's minds sharp.

Scientists working on Fermilab's SELEX experiment have found a odd new sub-atomic particle in the 'heavy-light' meson family. The researchers are intrigued because the meson lives longer than it should, weighs more than it should, and decays into unexpected particles.

Typically, the heavier the meson, the faster it decays. However, this meson - a combination of a strange quark and a charm antiquark - is the heaviest meson ever observed in this family, yet it lasts three times as long as its lighter relatives.

Comet Wild 2's jets and craters astound astronomers

A detailed analysis of the comet Wild 2 (pronounced "Vilt 2") has left astronomers astounded at an object that has no known peers in the solar system.

The comet, examined in a close flyby in January by NASA's Stardust spacecraft, has towering protrusions and steep-walled craters that seem to defy gravity. More than a dozen jets of material shoot out from its insides. Dust swirls around the comet in unexpectedly dense pockets.

Scientists find gene cure for cheating lover voles

LONDON - What would you give for a simple injection that would stop your lover from cheating?

Well, at least it works for meadow voles.

A single gene inserted into the brain can change promiscuous male rodents into faithful, monogamous partners, scientists said Wednesday.

Sheep like smiles say researchers  [:D]

Sheep can recognise emotions in facial expression, not only in their species but also in humans, researchers say.

Researchers at Cambridge University have discovered sheep prefer smiling or relaxed human faces, over angry or stressed ones.

Study: Teens' fitness habits key to preventing osteoporosis

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. - Got exercise? A recent study indicates that exercise is more important than calcium in developing strong bones in girls and young women.

Researchers at Penn State University and Johns Hopkins University found that even when girls took in far less calcium than the recommended daily allowance, bone strength was not significantly affected, said Tom Lloyd of Penn State's College of Medicine at the Milton S. Hershey Medical Center.

Border collie has 'vocabulary' of 200 words

WASHINGTON - As many a dog owner will attest, our furry friends are listening. Now, for the doubters, there is scientific proof they understand much of what they hear.

German researchers have found a border collie named Rico who understands more than 200 words and can learn new ones as quickly as many children.

Unprotected intercourse more risky than thought, study finds

LONDON - Women are likely to have more sex on the days when they are most fertile, even if they are not trying to get pregnant, scientists said Thursday.

That means that taking a chance and having sex without using contraception could be more likely to result in unwanted pregnancies than previously thought.

Genes may be linked to deteriorating mental function

Scientists say they've found a "genetic signature" of aging in the human brain — changes in key genes that may be linked to deteriorating mental function as we get older.

The study suggests that some genes start working less hard soon after age 40, at least in some people.

The actual search page weights close to 350Kb of HTML...  My poor little browser on my poor little laptop can't handle it any more...  It takes more than a full minute each time the page is displayed (and the browser kind of freeze the whole time)...

I would suggest 2 search pages; the current one, and a 'light' one without the search by member option...  Or maybe switch the member pulldown menu with a textbox were we enter the name manually?

I was wondering if others had the same experience...

Whenever I am travelling through the "void" (3d blackness), I can hear/feel some kind of engine-like noise apparently coming from my head...  It also seems like the rythme of this "engine" is proportional to the travelling speed.  The faster I go, the higher the rythme.  It also feels like my whole being is pulled by this "engine".

Anything familiar?

Welcome to Astral Chat! / Spinning Sensation
April 25, 2004, 03:44:16
Quite a few times I did experience some very annoying spinning sensations when lying down...  It would feel like I was spinning on myself.  I was kind of seeing the room starting to spin around me, even if it was not.  Of course it was not a 360deg spin; it was like a 30deg spin repeating over and over and over...  And it was to the point of making me dizzy; sea-sick like.  Closing my eyes was making it stronger/worse.  Standing up was stopping the sensation; but it's difficult to sleep in that position...

Anyone experienced something similar?
Any way to stop it?

Not really astral related, but it's a nice little (64kb) demo for Windows...  For those who don't know what is a demo; it is not a video; it's all created in realtime.

x = 0.999999999...
10x = 9.99999999...
10x - x = 9.99999999... - 0.999999999...
9x = 9
x = 1

=> 1 = 0.999999999...

When doing your energy work, how many of you do stick their tongue to the roof of the mouth, in order to close the energetical circuit...?

I never do it; my TaiChi teacher neither...
I tried when I APed, and it did not do much (supposed to increase the lucidity).
