Congrats!
I think that's a good example of how desire itself can a deciding factor for those who want to experience OBE.  Although you didn't do progessive relaxation, etc. the simple desire you had to have an OBE caused you to experience what you experienced.  Even if it wasn't a full blown OBE, it was obviously a powerful experience for you.

Hi!  Welcome to astralpulse!  I have been a member for a short time and have already come to love this place.  I am on the internet for only an hour or two a day (maybe that's a lot to some??) and I spend a great deal of that time reading the fascinating questions/answers/comments that people post.  Welcome once more!

We are actually trying to start an "intorduction thread" in the astral chatroom (the new one).  Feel free to introduce yourself (ie. hobbies, etc) and we invite all members, old and new alike, to do the same!

Welcome to Astral Chat! / Introductions!
April 08, 2002, 02:49:38
My name is Daniel Todd and I am 23 years old.  On July 6th I will marry my sweetheart, Sarah Carter, in the LDS Temple in Los Angeles.  I am a young man, but I had my "spiritual" eyes opened early in life and strive daily to love and learn more.  I study at UC Riverside and my Sarah is in nursing school.  We are both very active members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  We try to dedicate a great deal of our free time to serving others (ie. visiting the elderly and befriending those who are having a tough time in life...this makes us happier than anything else.)  We are excited to have children in a few years.

My hobbies include: reading and writing, scuba diving, computers, hiking/backpacking and meditation.

I hope to be an active member in this forum for as long as possible!

-Daniel

PS-I hope others come here and offer a brief bio about themselves...

Discourses of Brigham Young, p48
"The creations of God – the worlds that are and the worlds that have been, – who can grasp in the vision of his mind the truth that there never has been a time when there have not been worlds like this, and that there never will be a time when there will not be worlds organized and prepared for intelligent beings to dwell upon?"

B. H. Roberts, Comprehensive History of the Church, vol 2, Ch.63, pp 393-394
"It is these differences in intelligences that lead to order in the universe. Those more advanced governing, controlling, devising, organizing, forming societies, making governments, civilizations–all which shall tend to increase the glory and power and joy of all: 'Men are that they might have joy,' is a Book of Mormon passage. 'This is my work and my glory,' Joseph Smith represents God as saying, 'to bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of man.' To this end Divine Intelligences bring into existence worlds and world systems, sustain and guide them through immense cycles of time, and through processes that lead from chaos to cosmos, from telestial to celestial, and when attaining a point beyond which they may not be exalted in their present forms, breaking those forms, disintegrating them, to bring them forth again to reach a grander cosmos–worlds without
number have thus passed away, by the word of God's power, and many now stand, innumerable unto man; and as one earth and its heavens shall pass away, so shall another come, and there is no end to this work, to this evolution, and this devolution. And so the eternal drama proceeds. Intelligences meanwhile standing indestructible amidst this organization and disorganization of worlds; this integrating and disintegrating of things. This movement is from lower to higher estates, from little to greater excellences; yet this without attaining to 'highest' or 'perfect,' because, to repeat, advancement in the infinite knows no ultimates. Meanwhile intelligences amid these changes, under the law of eternal progress, are ever increasing in power, glory, might, dominion, benevolence, charity, justice; and all else that can make for the increase of their power and glory. In which strivings and achievements eternal evil is always potentially, and sometimes actively, present. Indeed it makes necessary and possible, in fact, the very strivings and achievements, and is the 'foil on which good produces itself, and becomes known."

B.H. Roberts, Man's Relationship To Deity
"The Prophet Joseph Smith is credited with having said that our planet was made up of the fragments of a planet which previously existed; some mighty convulsions disrupted that creation and made it desolate. Both its animal and vegetable life forms were destroyed. And when those convulsions ceased, and the rent earth was again consolidated, and it became desirable to replenish it, the work was begun by making a mist to rise, that it might descend in gentle rain upon the barren earth, that it might again be fruitful. Then came one of the sons of God to the earth-Adam. A garden was planted in Eden and the man placed in it, and there the Lord brought to him every beast of the field
and every fowl of the air, and Adam gave names to them all. Afterwards was brought to Adam his wife, whom, since she was derived from man, he named woman; and she became his help-mate, his companion and the mother of his children. In this nothing is hinted at about man being made from the dust, and woman manufactured from a rib, a story which has been a cause of much perplexity to religious people, and a source of much impious merriment to reckless unbelievers. We are informed that the Lord God made every plant of the field before it was in the earth' and every herb before it grew on our planet. As vegetation was created or made to grow upon some older earth, and the seeds thereof or the plants themselves were brought to our earth and made to grow, so likewise man and his helpmate were brought from some other world to our own."

B.H. Roberts, The Truth The Way The Life, ch25
"'Creation' and God. As in the case of the time period of creation, so in the 'manner' of creation, we may not wholly accept either of the theories or any of the variations of them proposed. We start, of course, with God as the Creator of the earth and its heavens. They were created at his command, and by his power, and under the operation of laws of creation. All which, however, does not require us to believe that the creation of the earth and its heavens was made instantly, as by magic, or by any absolutely new process; nor
that the things 'created,' any more than the order, were new and for the first time
produced. Both the things created and the order of their production must have been many
times repeated in the multitudinous worlds of the universe, where creations in some
manner have if, as we have presented the case been going on eternally.

"There are older worlds than ours in existence, inhabited by myriads of forms of life,
vegetable and animal, such as live in the seas and fly in the air and roam over the plains
and through the forests; ... the superior intelligences of older worlds have mastered the
problems not only of interplanetary and intersolar system communication, but also of
interplanetary transportation, indeed universal communication and transportation
throughout the universe-then it is possible that some method of transportation may have
been employed in conveying life in varied forms from other worlds to ours."

Greetings Violet and All!

Of course this is a question that is answered throughout our entire lives, but I believe exactly what Violet has written.  This was the conclusion I came to long before I ever even found this site and posted the question.  I believe firmly that we are here to learn to become co-creators.

A little snippet from a source I would rather not disclose:

I don't know the vernacular of 3rd, 4th, 5th dimension, for I
have not studied the same books that Susan has.

Sterling put it into more LDS religious terms: Telestial, Terrestrial andCelestial.   The LDS, along with many other religions,  also
acknowledge that we are several entities in one though they differ in
their names:  we are our physical bodies, as well as spiritual children ofGod and existed as intelligence's.  Some would say we are spirit, souland body.

We all understand that there is a light spectrum and that we see only apart of it.   The part that we see is the 3rd Dimension, physical reality. The 4th dimension is also very real, entailing more of the light spectrumand often can be captured with cameras especially infra red ones.   It isthe realm most people see in near death experiences, astral travelingand think of as Heaven/Hell.  Duality still exists there.  It is also therealm of imagination and thought.  Recall that in the LDS templeceremony we are told that everything is first created spiritually (fourthdimension) then temporally (third dimension).  Our thoughts literallycreate our third dimension reality.  When we are unawares and asleepspiritually, our thoughts simply attract and we are attracted to certaincircumstances and people.  We are unconscious creators at that point. The point of our being here is to become conscious co-creators.

Fifth dimension is the first level where we are at ONE, unified.  It is theSource Light for everything that exists.  It is pure Light, pure Love. Behind our 3rd dimensional heart lies one pure atom whose center
exists in the fifth dimension, our Heart of Hearts.  It is our literal
connection to God, our umbilical cord to our Source.   Our egotistical
natural man hides it from us and tells us to look outside ourselves to
find God.  Our veil of forgetfulness is literally our bodies surroundingour Heart of Hearts.  Our atrophied Pineal Gland cannot communicatewith the other dimensions in this state of deep slumber.  In reading or feeling truth and opening our hearts to it we increase our capacities forcommunication with other dimensions.  Deep contemplation andmeditation will also increase our capacities.
People who have seen beings in all their glory have seen beings whose
Heart of Hearts is allowed to expand to its full stature and encompass
the individual.  The natural man is no longer the master but the
servant.  Jesus Christ shone brightly when he transfigured.  His Heart ofHearts was no longer a light hidden under a bushel, but was allowed toshine forth.  If we are to follow Him we are to transfigure also and bringour Heart of Hearts out of hiding.
If we stay stuck in third dimension exclusively we do not have full
access to the palette of colors to create from, we are severely limited. Christ showed us the way.   He had full access to everything and we callthem miracles.  Other Masters have evolved and have also given us anexample.  We live in the end times, the Omega time.  Our earth willsoon pass from third dimension into fourth dimension.  If you have notraised your body to that level, you won't be coming along, but will startover at the beginning of another 26,000 year Third Dimensional cycleand will stay there until you learn to freely move from one dimensionto another with your body.
NOW is the time to prepare to meet God, not after you die and leave
your body behind.   It is not some far off moment when you can start tobecome a co-creator with God.   YOU ALREADY ARE.  It is simply time
to become a CONSCIOUS co-creator with God.   Your Natural Man is
ready to spout rule after rule after rule.  You will notice you never
really change following the myriad rules. You don't see many angels
nor are you especially wise.   The "trick" is to "not know."   Don't try andfigure out if ANY of this is right or wrong.  Allow it as a possibility. Try it and see what happens.  "I command my Heart of Hearts to be incharge of this body and to align each part of me with the Light."

Quietly think of all the miracles that you know of that Jesus and othermasters performed.  Feel how thrilling it is to be a part of God's work. Feel the love growing in your Heart of Hearts.  Recognize that you are a part of God and He is a part of you.  Feel the joy growing within you.

When the Natural Man starts to spout his rules at you, tell him thank
you, you will listen later.  Repeat to yourself, "I command my Heart ofHearts to be in charge of this body and to align each part of me with theLight."  (or some other phrase that you like, but leave in the commandpart, that's the free agency part).  I have been doing this off and on for 2-3 weeks and I have seen my own miracles. It really works for me.
Good luck and God Bless, Susan

                                 Godhood

Logically and naturally, the ultimate desire of a loving Supreme Being is to help his children enjoy
all that he enjoys. For Latter-day Saints, the term "godhood" denotes the attainment of such a
state—one of having all divine attributes and doing as God does and being as God is. Such a
state is to be enjoyed by all exalted, embodied, intelligent beings (see Deification; Eternal
Progression; Exaltation; God; Perfection). The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints
teaches that all resurrected and perfected mortals become gods (cf. Gen. 3:22; Matt. 5:48). They
will dwell again with God the Father, and live and act like him in endless worlds of happiness,
power, love, glory, and knowledge; above all, they will have the power of procreating endless
lives. Latter-day Saints believe that Jesus Christ attained godhood (see Christology) and that he
marked the path and led the way for others likewise to become exalted divine beings by following
him (cf. John 14:3).

The LDS conception of godhood is central to their understanding of why God creates and acts.
Latter-day Saints believe in a God who "cleaves unto" other eternal intelligences (D&C 88:40)
and wants to make them happy. Joseph Smith observed, "Happiness is the object and design of
our existence; and will be the end thereof, if we pursue the path that leads to it; and this path is
virtue, uprightness, faithfulness, holiness, and keeping all the commandments of God" (TPJS, p.
255). Happiness is the goal of existence, and God created this world in order to promote
happiness (2 Ne. 2:25). Because he loves the world, he gave his "only begotten Son" (John
3:16). God gives commandments to help mankind achieve happiness. Joseph Smith wrote: "In
obedience there is joy and peace unspotted, unalloyed; and as God has designed our
happiness—and the happiness of all His creatures, he never has—He never will institute an
ordinance or give a commandment to His people that is not calculated in its nature to promote
that happiness which He has designed, and which will not end in the greatest amount of good and
glory to those who become the recipients of his law and ordinances" (TPJS, pp. 256–57). The
Book of Mormon refers to God´s Plan of Salvation as "the great plan of happiness" (Alma 42:8).
In this sense, God creates in order to increase the total happiness in the universe.

As the Supreme Being in the universe, God has the greatest capacity for happiness. Thus, to
maximize joy in others, God desires them to be as much like him as possible. "For behold, this is
my work and my glory—to bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of man" (Moses 1:39; cf.
Ps. 16:11). This latter-day scripture is understood to mean that God´s goal is to help men and
women share in the kind of eternal life he lives. Joseph Smith wrote: "God...was more intelligent,
[and he] saw proper to institute laws whereby [his children] could have a privilege to advance
like himself. The relationship we have with God places us in a situation to advance in knowledge.
He has power to institute laws to instruct the weaker intelligences, that they may be exalted with
himself, so that they might have one glory upon another, and all that knowledge, power, glory,
and intelligence, which is requisite in order to save them in the world of spirits" (TPJS, p. 354).

All of God´s spirit children have within them a divine nature with the potential to become like him.
To become more like God, individuals must gain increased light and truth and follow all the
commandments that God has given. They must know God (John 17:3; D&C 88:49) and see him
(1 Jn. 3:2). Those who achieve this level of perfection will become joint-heirs with Christ: "For as
many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.... And if children, then heirs;
heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also
glorified together" (Rom. 8:14–17). "All that [the] Father hath" shall be given to them (D&C
84:37–38). In biblical terms, those who are worthy to share in all the power and glory that God
himself has are called "gods": "Ye are gods; and all of you are children of the most High" (Ps.
82:6; John 10:34–38). Latter-day scriptures refer to several persons, including Abraham, Isaac,
and Jacob, who once lived on earth and who are now resurrected beings and have become gods
(D&C 132:37).

Most people are accustomed to using the term "God" to identify only one being, the Father. But
the scriptures sometimes use the term to designate others as well. In this sense, while the faithful
worship only one God in spirit and in truth, there exist other beings who have attained the
necessary intelligence and righteousness to qualify for the title "god." Jesus Christ is a God and is
a separate personage, distinct from God the Father (see Godhead).

People qualify themselves for this rank and degree of exaltation by bringing themselves fully in line
with all that God has commanded them to do: "Here, then, is eternal life-to know the only wise
and true God; and you have got to learn how to be Gods yourselves, and to be kings and priests
to God,...namely, by going from one small degree to another, and from a small capacity to a
great one; from grace to grace, from exaltation to exaltation, until you attain to the resurrection of
the dead, and are able to dwell in everlasting burnings, and to sit in glory, as do those who sit
enthroned in everlasting power" (TPJS, pp. 346-47).

Joseph Smith also wrote, "Every man who reigns in celestial glory is a God to his dominions"
(TPJS, p. 374). This does not mean that any person ever would or could supplant God as the
Supreme Being in the universe; but it does mean that through God´s plan and with his help, all
men and women have the capacity to participate in God´s eternal work. People participate in this
work by righteous living, by giving birth to children in mortality and helping them live righteous
lives, and by bringing others to Christ. Moreover, Latter-day Saints believe that those who
become gods will have the opportunity to participate even more fully in God´s work of bringing
eternal life to other beings. God is referred to as "Father in Heaven" because he is the father of all
human spirits (Heb. 12:9; cf. Acts 17:29), imbuing them with divine potentials. Those who
become like him will likewise contribute to this eternal process by adding further spirit offspring to
the eternal family.

Latter-day Saints believe that God achieved his exalted rank by progressing much as man must
progress and that God is a perfected and exalted man: "God himself was once as we are now,
and is an exalted man, and sits enthroned in yonder heavens! That is the great secret. If the veil
were rent today, and the great God who holds this world in its orbit, and who upholds all worlds
and all things by his power, was to make himself visible,—I say, if you were to see him today,
you would see him like a man in form—like yourselves in all the person, image, and very form as
a man; for Adam was created in the very fashion, image and likeness of God, and received
instruction from, and walked, talked and conversed with him, as one man talks and communes
with another" (TPJS, p. 345).

Much of the LDS concept of godhood is expressed in a frequently cited aphorism written in
1840 by Lorenzo Snow, fifth President of the Church. At the time, Snow was twenty-six years
old, having been baptized four years earlier. He recorded in his journal that he attended a meeting
in which Elder H. G. Sherwood explained the parable of the Savior regarding the husbandman
who hired servants and sent them forth at different hours of the day to labor for him in his
vineyard. Snow continued, as recorded in his sister´s biography of him: "The Spirit of the Lord
rested mightily upon me—the eyes of my understanding were opened, and I saw as clear as the
sun at noonday, with wonder and astonishment, the pathway of God and man. I formed the
following couplet which expresses the revelation, as it was shown me.... As man now is, God
once was: As God now is, man may be" (Eliza R. Snow, p. 46).

Welcome to Metaphysics! / souls

I must chime in on this one.  I have to back up Kristen in her remarks about good and evil.  Saying that they don't exist objectively is like saying that light and dark don't exist objectively.  It's simply not true.

It is true, however, that there are likes and dislikes as well as "gray areas", but there is, in the end, always a definite line between good and evil.  We may see darkly now, but in the future we will all be able to dicern perfectly between and two and choose.

Thanks for the info fellas.  I didn't know Bruce talked about any color coordination-- I am going to have to check out what he said about it.

About the number seven, that's my favorite number and has been since I was a child...it makes me very happy to know that it is a special number because, you know, we all want to feel special!  (smile)

Thanks again...

Yes, on my laptop I do have Internet Explorer, but on the desktop computer (which is the one I use the most) for some reason my Explorer isn't working, so I use Netscape exclusively...

Anyway, I guess it's a personal problem.  Thanks for the response just the same!

Very interesting indeed.  There will always be this need for balance in the universe, but there is something I must bring up.  As I live from day to day I strive to push out any evil or darkness from within. I firmly believe that by striving each day, each hour, yes and even each minute to perfect myself...some "day" I know I can reach a perfected state.  I don't think I will do that within this life time, while in this physical body...but I think that every soul who has discovered his or her true potential is striving towards perfection "line upon line, precept upon precept".  If this is so, is the balance maintained because there are those entities that are wholly dark and evil?

I'd be interested to hear what you think about this.

'INTERNATIONAL CROP CIRCLE ARCHIVE' RELEASES 2001 STATISTICS - 28/03/2002

The 'International Crop Circle Archive', led by German researcher ANDREAS MÜLLER, has released its annual crop circle figures for 2001...
Based on the records collected and complied by ICCA, the International Crop Circle Archive, in 2001, 197 different crop circle formations were discovered world-wide.

Compared to the year before, in which the number was 275, we had about 30% less formations.
The reason for this decrease may lie in the cold winter and the wet and rainy spring 2000/2001 in Europe. Some also refer to Foot & Mouth disease as a possible explanation why, suggesting that less hoaxers went into the field. It is the view of ICCA that this is not really valid, as we have to note the fact that in the two previous years we were blessed with an unusual and obvious high number of formations (1999 = 241) and that there were other previous years with less formations than in 2000, with no F&M crisis out there.

One should also not forget, that to ask each year for new records in number, size and complexity might be a more human wish, having probably not much to do with the real phenomenon's background or intentions.

          FORMATIONS PER COUNTRY
          England: 104 = 52.8%
          Germany: 24 = 12.18%

          France: 1 = 0.51%
          Israel: 1 = 0.51%
          Russia: 1 = 0.51%

          FORMATIONS PER MONTH

Regarding the film(s):
(taken from http://www.swirlednews.com/article.asp?artID=377 )

Veteran researcher Andrews, despite believing 80% of formations to be
man-made, has also moved in on the US movie 'Signs', with e-mail press releases bursting with all the grandiose hyperbole the circular world has come to expect from him, boasting of his involvement with publicity for the film. In fact, from these one could be forgiven for thinking the films exist to promote Andrews, rather than the other way around. (The excitable language should be treated with caution: one line reads: "This week Colin signed contracts to take a prominent
part in another major television documentary for The Learning Channel, to be aired to coincide with 'Signs'". As it happens, I, together with certain other researchers, am also part of this production - but didn't issue a press release! The 'contracts' would appear to be little more than the standard release forms any participant in a TV programme is required to sign. Sounds good, though,
doesn't it?)

Others thinking of jumping on the movie PR bandwagon may like to pause for reflection, however, in the light of recent public comments. Both M Night Shyamalan, the director of 'Signs', and Mel Gibson, the star, have both been quoted in interviews as stating that they believe the entire crop circle phenomenon is man-made, but that it is a quaint idea for a movie. Hardly an encouraging start.

Movies are movies and as such we should all look forward to these forthcoming releases as good bits of entertainment based loosely around something we're interested in. However, the view being peddled by the PR bandwagonists - that the films will somehow promote education about the real phenomenon - is blatantly a false one. They will stir up welcome interest, yes, and it's fair enough to capitalise on this for the sake of getting people interested in the real thing, the movies will doubtless leave many false impressions about crop circles. After all, you don't go to the cinema for truth, but escape. We've already seen how the web trailer for 'Signs' doesn't even acknowledge that England has ever had crop circles (see our previous reports).

From the quoted opinions of the director and star of 'Signs', those researchers fronting the film PR scuttlebutt, high-percentage hoax believers though they may be, run the risk of being used, as the totally sceptical filmmakers surely snigger at them from behind their hands, happy to let those they must see as misguided suckers go out and promote their work for them. The self-promotion gained by the researchers may ultimately come at a high price in terms of the damaged credibility they could suffer if the films are no good.

Well, one things for sure: the new movie coming out about cropcricles with Mel Gibson isn't going to help bring truth to the forefront.  From the looks of the latest preview, it's going to be aliens attacking a family and they are the cropcircle makers.  For all of you out there who are interested in the phenomena and want others to take it seriously, don't look to Hollywood for any hope.

Thanks for the info!

I am studying up on it and I find that everything you have all noted is quite true.  I have one other question, does the star of David have anything to do with the pentegram?

"Jesus answered them, Is it not written in your law, I said, Ye are gods?"

I have a friend who gets "high" by listening to music.  He says he lays down on his bed and builds energy...and is subsequently "whooshed" away to wherever he desires.

Anyway, I think anything that aids in the energy development of the individual can be effectively used for this purpose.  Music is obviously quite effective for many...and probably anyone could use it to build energy if they found the right music and found what works for them to reach the desired effects.

higher authority. It is even believed by some that there is a kind of astral police force watching out for ethical, moral and astral rights
transgressors.

According to my experience this belief is a total myth. There are many natural barriers associated with OBE, but there are no ethical nor
moral limitations. No higher authority is interested in the activities of projectors. No astral police force will appear and punish bad or
naughty projectors.

The ethical and moral correctness of any out-of-body action depends entirely upon the judgment and conscience of the projector
concerned. With out-of-body sex especially, strong natural barriers are encountered and there are natural repercussions for repeated
disreputable behavior. If projectors cannot control their behavior they will not last very long nor travel very far while out of body. Their
experiences will tend to be quickly curtailed whenever they meet any potential sex partners, real or unreal. This cuts their OBE's very
short indeed and keeps them off the astral streets, so to speak.

If projectors go actively seeking sex, they will come across an ever increasing number of potential sex partners. The lower astral planes
teem with these. Like attracts like in a big way in the sensitive out-of-body environment. The only repercussions stemming from habitual
bad behavior, as far as I am aware, are a lowering of energetic values and of the levels of operation possible. In this case the attraction of
other like-minded projectors and beings is, I consider, natural consequence enough. This has the effect of keeping sexually overactive
projectors away from more serious-minded projectors. This has, I feel, a certain poetic justice to it.

As to invading the privacy of people in the real world, or other projectors in the out-of-body environment, even for deliberate unethical
gain or immoral purposes, there are no restrictions. In my experience there is no astral police force or astral overseer who will suddenly
blow a whistle and say: "OK mate, I saw what you just did! Get straight back into your body and stay there, Right Now!" Imagine the
enormous number of astral police that would be required just to keep tabs on several billion people day and night?

The intentions involved with privacy issues are important. Continual deliberate breaches of privacy will cause a serious alteration in a
projector's energy values. This will attract other like-minded projectors and negative-type beings into their OBE's as well as into their real
life; which is consequence enough methinks.

It seems the whole idea that out-of-body behavior is policed was started by early researchers and authors on OBE and related subjects,
early last century and late in the century before this. Most would have realized the real truth of this matter, of this I am quite sure.
However they seem to have worried that if the public knew the whole shocking truth about the sheer freedom of OBE, they might use
OBE for what they considered to be immoral purposes. In a way, these researchers and authors tried to impose their own set of moral
judgments and values upon the public with a "Stop it or you'll all go blind!" kind of attitude and blanket warning. They hoped by this, I am
sure, to influence people into using OBE for good and noble purposes only.

Stemming from this, these early writers and researchers have unwittingly imposed this same set of values upon the present day. Consider
the early written works in OBE and related fields, and how these have been used as reference and source material by all researchers,
authors and teachers ever since. All of these early works have had some influence on present day thought, concerning behavioral
limitations of OBE. As a result of this we now have many versions of 'The Astral Overseer' and 'The Astral Police' types of beliefs to deal
with; all stemming from the original morally inflicted Victorian fallacy. (RB)

Greetings!
This is a great topic.  I always use garlic for I believed it to be good to the taste and for my physical health, but I was a little skeptical about it's positive spiritual qualities.

Going back to the idea about doing good bringing on psychic attacks, I find this to be too true.  It seems that in my own personal life, whenever I make strides forward I always seem to face strong opposition.  I see this on other people's lives as well.  I believe that there truly are beings out there that "see" the act of good and realize there is a threat.  Has anyone here read or at least heard of the novel entitled "The Scewtape Letters" by C.S. Lewis.  It's very interesting in that it basically follows a devil in training by the name of "Screwtape".  His mentor is a veteran neg who is bent on training Screwtape to ruin the life of the protoganist.  Very interesting.  I had it about a year ago and want to read it again.

I assume no one has had any experience with, or read anything about this- I find that to be very interesting.  When no one has anything to say about a topic I guess it can only mean two things: the topic is completely boring and unimportant or it's a great question for no one seems to have any ready answer.

Of course no one can really convince someone else about what great meaning life has, but one can prove that he or she is happy.  When you are happy then of course you desire to live life, to share and learn and do everything else that brings this feeling.

If you don't see the need to live, then you are not happy. . .and if you are not happy then there is something wrong.  What is wrong? I think that is the question you need to ask yourself before you decide that life is not worth living, and then fix it.

I don't mean to sound flippant or arrogant, because I think I have felt similar feelings of despair.  I am no one to judge, so I am not passing judgement.  I just want you and everyone else who feels that way to get up and realize that life is eternal and it's now or later. Choose now.

Kristen:
First of all, settle down... it sounds like you took my comments way too seriously.
"P.S. Been there and done philosophy 101"-Kristen.

Good, I am happy for you, however, I am still trying to make sense out of the following statement you made:

"I've decided that it doesn't matter whether or not what I percieve and believe is real objectively because in my percieving and responding to any one thing - deluded and decieved or not - my responding makes whatever I am responding to some thing (a thing."

I have a feeling that if I were to propose this idea to my peers they might end up a little confused.

Descartes believed that only two things were "real"...his existence (not his body, etc. but his consciousness) and then he built his ideas from that foundation.  Of course we have come a long way since those days, but his basic proposition still fuels a lot of debate.

I am taking Phil 1 for fun and I must admit that because I still feel as if I know nothing, I think I am on the right track.  I will always be a student, and I hope that I never right "been there and done that" in regards to such a grand and expansive subject such as philosophy.

PS- the author is LDS, like myself, and this has a lot to do with the subject manner she usually writes about.  It's also how I came accross the book.

Thanks everybody, for all the input.

I suggest looking up info on Descartes however to get a better idea of how he faced this issue of "what is real" and about the concept of the evil genius.  To put it into perspective, the professor showed us a few clips from the Matrix...for that is the idea of the evil genius who is tricking us all into thinking what we percieve is real, when in fact, it is not.

Welcome Barbara!
After reading your posts, I am almost certain you are going to become a proficient traveler.  Although you are new, I have already learned a lot from what you have shared.  And BTW (by the way) NEVER feel self conscious here.  I can attest to the fact that everyone here is very open minded and non-judgemental.  See ya in the forums!
