My two cents:  I always want to be in control...I want to be able to lose control, but that's part of my control, does that make any sense?

If I were this guy I would seriously evaluate my spirituality, mentality, etc. because if this starts affecting his temporal pursuits and his family (if he has any) then it would have serious, detrimental effects.

(he explanation of the "k98" rife or whatever sounds mighty detailed/eccentric-- what's his background?)

Chris,
Wow!  I am envious of your experience (in a good way of course).  I know of someone who wanted to learn to play the flute...so he projected into the future and took lessons from his future self, and then came back and with some practice he was able to play just as he remembered learning.  Now I don't know exactly what is and isn't possible (as you pointed out to yourself that the other you would probably not remember much later), but I know we can split our consciousness up into infinite? peices...

Anyway, I would be interested to hear more about what others have experienced in regards to this phenomena.  Thanks for your post (your new in the forum eh?)

Welcome to Out of Body Experiences! / OOBE Movie
March 26, 2002, 23:28:51
I found it, it's on the second page...I guess everyone wants the big American style film.  Maybe the character will find a way to kill all of the aliens, save the world and get the girl...all thanks to his ability to project....

Seriously though, I would like to see someone post a plot structure they think would work for this "OBE" movie... I am an opened minded person, but to tell you the truth I still think an OBE movies would do more damage than good.  It could be done, but for once I will play the role of the skeptic.

A documentary on the other hand, as many of us have stated previously, would attract those men and women who have spent years, even decades, studying NDE's, OBE's, psi, etc.  A film would become a cliche and would probably just make everyone view OBE as just some other imaginary thing that Hollywood dreamt up.

That's my take.

What happened to the OOBE Documentary post I had started?  I guess they took it down, those tyrants!

McArthur,
Thank you for contributing to this topic, I too found your essay interesting, to say the least.

You wrote:
"I'm not arguing here against the use of medication in the treatment of psychological conditions. I'm simply arguing that finding a "cure" for something, or giving it a psychiatric label, does not explain its cause."

I think it was this thought that was lingering in my mind after I saw the film "A Beautiful Mind".  Just because so called science and medicine finds a treatment, or a way to "normalize" something doesn't mean they have found the answers to the why's and how's of a certain problem or state of being.

Thanks again.

I don't know how this will clarify anything, but for me symbols have great meaning.  The greatest thing about them is that they symbolize (you're probably thinking, "Duh!") something...love, devotion, etc.  I really like the info. from Nita Hickock that Adrian posted.  I think there is much to be learned from symbols in the astral realm.

Ray-
I think you'd be suprised to find out how many people would be envious of you...most of us have to induce our OBE's, but you are obviously just waking up during what sounds like an exit....so I echo what the others have said: just relax and let it happen.  There is always a reason that something happens, so try to realize what and why.

Robert,
What you have said above about negs implanting "core images" is too ture.  As a young child I began to fear that I would have a specific challenge in my life (the details of which I'd rather not expound upon here)...my parents thought I was crazy.  Ten years later, during high school years, this all became too true.  Looking back I realize that as a child I had no intention/desire to ever do these things (I was a very conservative and obedient child)...I was also the first born.  Anyway, I truly think there is something to what you say. . .

I don't mean that we create "reality" as in everything we see is all our creation, or all in our mind...I am talking more about what we make of oursleves and our future.  I create who I am, what my profession is, what my goals are, etc.  I firmly believe that we could all avoid being sick, etc. if we truly focused enough...mind over matter type thing....

#1085
I think your missing the point...first of all, this stuff is pretty much factual, I mean everything is "theory"...but it's not that everytime we observe something it changes, it's that our thoughts are so powerful that we actually create our own reality.  That is why in the mental planes we can create our own enviornment.  This is the vein of thought that many, including myself, are following...

After having watched the interview (and the film- for whatever that's worth) it seems like these people are afraid to share what they truly feel is happening because either 1) they have been told so many times that it's just a physiological malfunction (which it sometimes is) that they no longer consider that it could be something "real" and 2) they are afraid of being denied a "normal" life (would they allow Nash to teach at the university if they suspected that he believed that some of the voices he heard were truly from external entities?

#1087
I think you guys should all change your names to Robert!

#1088
I am always wary when one comes forward, whether it be a group or an individual, claiming to be chosen.  The best way to find out what is going on is to look at the "fruits" this individual or group has to show for their claims.  Are they doing great good, helping and serving others, etc.?  Or instead stockpiling money and weapons- preapring to drink poison if the spaceship doesn't come?

Oh the things you will see... (Dr. Suess)

Well, I don't think I have seen "the grid", unless it's the same one I have seen with my eyes shut...I love to watch the electric pulses and "sparks" while my eyes are closed and sometimes I see a matrix in them.  Other times I see a matrix in the distant black void in my mind.

I will definetly have to do some research on the subject.  In a nutshell, what exactly did Mr. Bruce say about this "grid"?

It's not good to want to "get out of here"...you must realize that you control everything about your life, who you are, and where you are.   Nothing is ever going to come along and simply "get you out of" your life.  I am sorry to break it to you, but this attitude is not only unhealthy, but it's dangerous.  You are likely to atract negative entities before you attract "friendly" ones.

#1092
I noticed it too...one of us should research the origins (etomology?) of the name.

Anyway, what do you all think about the documentary idea?  (I don't want it to die!!)

Welcome to Out of Body Experiences! / Dragonfly
March 24, 2002, 13:00:02
Mobius- hey, it's not just the Australian critics- here in America they don't get good reviews either.  I know K-Pax got ok reviews, even som poor ones, and although I haven't read the reviews for Draginfly, I would guess that they gave it mediocre to poor reviews (2 stars).

I usually agree with the critics (usually being the operative word) but for some reason when it comes to metaphysically related films I never see eye to eye with them.  I think they are looking for something completely different. . .and of course Dragonfly should be viewed as a symblic film and not be taken at face value.

Anyway, I stand by it. . .check it out when it is released over there!
See ya!

Welcome to Metaphysics! / Reading List

I, like Darren, would be interested in finding out which books in specific were formative in Robert's path to "enlightenment".  Maybe someday he will compile a list of his favs and post them as an article or here in the forums.

I've got to get to bed...but I had to check in one more time... and I just wanted to say that what you (winged wolf) say hits home.  I have had an experience in my life that I am sure was somewhat similar to what a schizophrenic experiences...and it is hell.  I feel SO bad for those who suffer from the illness to the extent they can no longer control their own world.  I can only imagine how it would be...but I have faith that they will, one day, be rid of this disease that affects their physical brain chemistry.

Welcome to Out of Body Experiences! / Dragonfly

The "ads" are misleading.  I saw the film this evening and I thought I wasn't going to enjoy it due to the impressions I got after having seen the previews.

Throughout the film I felt dissapointed because I thought it was going somewhere I didn't want it to go...BUT IN THE END, THE FILM TURNS OUT TO BE WONDERFUL!  On a 1 to 10 scale of "enjoyment", I would give it a 7... but on the 1 to 10 scale of importance and what it could mean for those who don't yet believe in "spirit" and "afterlife" I give it a resounding 10.

I won't give anything away, but I will say that it is a little bit overdone in a Hollywood sense, yet at the same time it keeps the audience on the edge of their seat.  The whole film comes down to what happens in the last scene...I'll just put it this way: the audience applauded.

Go check it out. (and if you haven't seen "A Beautiful Mind" or K-PAX, I recommend them...)  They may not be the greatest films of all time, but they are definetly food for thought...and I could argue that they are some of the best films released in the past few years...

(When did I start reviewing films on New Age websites??)

You know it's really sad...I work with "sick" people (ranging from mental disability to extreme mental AND physical disablity.

I have come to conclude that while many individuals simple "hallucinate" and live in a world in which their mind creates a lot of what they see, there are others who truly see the other side.

I have also come to comprehend that many people born with disablities are here to teach us...and within they are magnificient spiritual giants, some who need do no more than be examples of what it means to love and be loved.  They can frustrating at times, believe me, but I have learned more patient from these friends than all of my other friends combined.

I am interested to hear what more of you have to say in regards to schizophrenia and John Nash (and "A Beautiful Mind")

I just saw Dragonfly tonight and I ended up really liking it quite a lot...the whole film relies on the final scene of the film, which truly ressurects what I thought was a mediocre film up to that point.  Don't let the preview scare you away...although it is a VERY hollywoodish film, it definetly has a lot to say.  It sparked good conversation for us this evening.

Welcome to Spiritual Evolution! / Meditation ?
March 23, 2002, 15:31:57
My two cents on the topic:
Coffee should be avoided...although I drink Pepsi/Coke, etc. every once in a while.  If one has a dependency, however, on anything (ie. soda, coffee, chocolate, etc.) it should be broken as soon as possible.

I struggle with over eating...I am not obese and I don't think my friends would even say I am over weight, but food is like any other "drug"...it requires moderacy and respect.

I guess I just stated the obvious....and the horse IS dead.  (:

I too believe in reincarnation, at least to an extent, although I do not believe we return to this world in another body...

I would just like to echo what Adrian said in his post...a documentary with individuals like Mr. Bruce, representatives from the Monroe institute, doctors, etc. would truly make for a simple yet profound film.

I agree with Manfred...the fact that on this one, relatively "small" website, there are thousands of visitors and X amount of members, all of which are interested in the topic for one reason or another.

...and yes, the Art Bell show was a great door of opportunity for Mr. Bruce, but at the same time I think the audience for a film would be evern greater.

If I were financially independent, I mean REALLY "independent", I would love to fund a film of this genre...and I would try to get a very well respected and objectively minded director to undertake it.

Lastly I just wanted to add that because I have many close friends as well as my finace, all of which are involved in one way or another with health care, that NDE's, OBE's, and "visions" in general occur on an almost daily basis within hospitals accross the world.  I recommend "Closer to the Light" by Dr. Melvin L. Morse- this book basically reviews many individual NDE's and then attempts to make the point that doctors and nurses, and all of us, need to wake up and face the truth about these "unexplained" phenomena...
http://www.melvinmorse.com/

I think individuals such as Morse, Bruce, Monroe...all of which are credible, intelligent and articulate...would make for an excellent "framework" for a documentary style film...then fill in the gaps with testimonies, individual experiences, and historical/religous viewpoints (show the connection of our modern thinking with these things, but of course keep it objective.)
