Hrm. I guess it has been years since there was anything i verified 100%. When i was 16 or so there was a strange car in a neighbors parking pad about 6 houses down from mine. It was purple and i never saw it before...I woke up to get the mail and there was the same car in the parking pad. Here they bought a new car. I've tried some more verification tests recently but havnt had good results.

To me, a lot of the power to do it is within the mind. If your skeptic and believe you cant do it, I dont think you will be able to.

To answer your question, I have had them for years and I think anyone can experience them with practice. I have gotten to the point where I can trigger them if i want to.

Besides reading and educating myself more. No I havnt done anything to increase the results. I have had a "GOAL" and that has caused me to project more often then when I do not have one. My last Projection was on 6/06/08. I had some minor ones since then but nothing memorable enough for me to journal about.

Wow...from the way you described it visually, it sounds like some of my extremely vivid experiences from long ago. I'd say it was an OBE. Did it feel as real as if you were awake? Were you floating or walking during the experience? or both?

Okay! So I have some results for you guys. Sorry I didnt post this earlier. I didnt have a deck of regular cards. So I had to use Uno cards. I looked at them all thoroughly before i mixed them together. I then placed one without looking at it ontop of a high portion of my computer desk.

6/05/08
1) One OBE occurred this morning a bit after 11am. I felt the normal shifting of my body and began to leave the doorway of my room. This experience I did not see any kind of cord attached to my physical body or anything restraining me. I stopped at my doorway and asked myself; wait a moment, why am I going outside of my room? I turned around and saw my dresser to the left. Everything was in color during this occurrence, and extremely vivid. The odd thing is my dresser isn't located where it was in my OBE anymore. Now there is a big TV where my dresser appeared in the OBE. Anyways, I went to go to goal #2 (the card on top of my dresser, and turned it over). I faintly remember seeing "Joker". I woke up today and noticed it was a blue 5 UNO card. I need to buy a stack of regular cards to test this theory out a bit further. Even though this experience wasn't necessarily a success, having complete control over the experience was excellent. After I revealed the card (I was able to flip it over in the experience), I returned to my body and awoke. I also laughed incredibly hard because The "Joker" card was extremely blurry and I had to sit there and recall if I saw a joker or a king card.

Its important to note that I had a failed attempt on 5/30. I left my physical body but was attached to my silver cord. Some may find this interesting so I will post this:

5/30/08

1)   9:20-9:30am – I was able to project two separate times this morning. Most likely encompassing only around 5-10 minutes total. The first projection was brief and was only for validation of a few things. I checked to see where the "grey cord" was attached. Today one end was attached to my head on my physical body and the other end was attached to the head on my other body. The cord seemed a bit thinner this time as I did not see it right away when I projected.  During the second projection I detached the cord from my head on my physical body and traveled to goal #2 (which is where I will be placing the card to identify later on). This area is within my room on top my desk. My intentions for this projection was to stay out of body longer than usual. Everything was mostly grey. However I noticed when I detached the cord from my physical body, my physical body began to shake). Things then began to take vivid color in my room such as my monitor, my walls and curtains, and my desk. Overall it was an incredible experience. I returned to my body after reattaching my grey cord out of fear (because my physical body appeared to be shaking)

No worries, no offense taken or anything. Well honestly it could be your bodies way of coping with the effects of the medication wearing off...I know this is how my body deals with medication as well...I have chronic insomnia and used to take Ambien and would have incredibly vivid OBE's. I take minimal medication to sleep now but they mostly occur in the mornings (10-12 hours) after I take anything. The reason I believe they occur so often for me is because I get up so often throughout the night

Hmm I see. Well for me they started at an early age and from there only advanced with education and practice. Maybe you will have to dig deep to find your own truth. I would try to not let studies discourage or depress you. Your quoted text specifies NDE's which can be similar to OBE's but are triggered during a traumatic event. Wouldn't "this theory helps explain what has always been a tantalizing aspect of the mystery of NDEs: how people can experience sights and sounds after confirmed brain death", only be more interesting and less discouraging? I personally find it to be an interesting aspect of the brain and not something depressing. If anything it gives hope and not discourages it, to me, that is.

These experiences would vary greatly on a person-by-person basis. I don't really think this is something you should "recommend" per say..many medications are known to enhance OBE's from what I heard but its not as a genuine experience then, in my opinion.

I read your entire post and heres what I can say:

I am new to the community but have been experiencing OBE's for years on a consistent basis. To me, death is just a gateway to something much greater and not worse. I can also say that the experiences I have had only strengthened my faith. While there is a lot of research that can be done on the subject, you can only read in to things so much. Books will only do a certain amount. Practice is the other half and believing in yourself. Appreciate what you can in life because you don't know when it can be all taken from you.

Doesn't your own truth matter in the end more so than what is written in studies?

Well, I noticed that for me personally, i have OBE's while falling in and out of sleep. I usually get up to get a drink 5-6 times a night and they occur when I lay back down. You shouldnt be scared. Try repeating it. If you saw your spirit from a 3rd perspective that is kind of nifty.

Recently I projected two days in a row while trying really hard..I also got up to record my experiences so I didnt go back to sleep.

In terms of the cord itself. I am not sure about "how" i detached it. I simply kind of went up to it and grabbed it and took it with me...it was smooth and felt like a noodle. I didn't feel any kind of energy from it however. I am starting to believe that maybe it was created from my mind since I have recently began more research on the subject. I will have to try the projection to a friends house although I've never found it possible.

I have had some weird things happen (being in complete control) of dreams that are in different cities and stuff but they feel a bit different and not the same as the OBE's so I think they are just lucid dreams. Is it possible to have projections from your body in a foreign bed? for Example, I have had some control of some OBE's and noticed my physical in a different bed that wasnt in my own house and I was traveling around alot. The experience itself was not very memorable though.

so many views but no replies...hmm..Heres another brief recent experience:

1) 10:40-10:45am – I was able to reach my first goal today. A few nights ago I set
down a cup of water out in the kitchen in order to project to the cup and pick it up. This morning I successfully projected while lying on my side facing my door. Separation was a bit different because I was fearful for some reason. Yesterday when I projected I was not able to see how I was tethered to my body. Today I went to the door and looked back before I went any further. I noticed a grayish cord tied to the bottom of my foot. I went and detached it from my physical body and took it with me as I went to get the glass out in the kitchen (my goal). The glass that I picked up was the same one that I placed the water in and had some color. Everything else in the experience was not as vivid. The glass itself was in full color. From now on I may just stay in my room and see how long I can stay out of body without fear for not being able to return. It seems the cord is rather short from my experience. Maybe this relates to my experience as a novice? Once I am able to stay outside of my body longer inside my room, I will plan attempts to visit my mothers bed and see if there is anything I notice unusual. It is also important to note that I was laying on my side when this occured which is unusual because I usually can only project while laying on my back. The cord itself seemed fastened on my physical body near my toe although at the time I did not think of checking where it was on the body that departed from my physical body.

I have been looking for a community to open up to regarding my personal experiences with OBE's. I'd first like to give a little history about myself.

I have had insomnia since the age of 12 (chronic). I have had sleep studies done and doctors were never able to really determine why I cannot sleep correctly. I have been on medication on and off since that age. My first experiences did not occur until I was around 16 years old. I am 22 now.

My first few experiences scared me entirely. They were extremely vivid and I could only travel as far as my memory had served me. For example, I could only go down the street as far as my memory recalled each detail of trees, houses, etc. I could remember seeing the dew off of leaves and remembering how realistic it felt. The only way I have ever been able to have these experiences is when I lay on my back trying to fall asleep. I never am able to sleep on my back so that is why I believe they occur. I have induced them by laying on my back when trying to project.

It is also important to note I believe that I started having hypnogogic hallucinations around the age of 16 as well. Some of my dream-elements would be portrayed on my walls when I would wake up. I would actually get up out of my bed and chase after these to confirm if it was real or not. They first occurred when I was on Ambien. Ambien stopped working in terms of helping with my sleep and the OBE's subsided for a few years. Within the past few years I began having them again and tried learning from them each time. I have more recently began looking back at my body while I project.

I can best describe my experiences occurring without any sense of vibrations as other people note. I feel a slight "shift" between my physical body and I often look down at my lower torso when they begin to occur and see a transparent copy of myself raising from my physical body. I have also seen through my eyelids a few times to a fixed object (such as a clock) when they occur. I also feel a slight sensation when I want to return to my body. I noticed they often occur when I am slowing down my breathing as well when laying on my back. I often wake up 5-6 times a night and get a drink so I feel that is also part of the reason i am subjected to them.

I do not have extremely vivid ones like I did back when I was 16. I think that they are happening more naturally now, as I do not take very much in terms of medication to sleep. They always occur now after I have had a full nights rest and when I am tossing in/out of sleep between 10am-noon.

I believe I have encountered some kind of spirit before above my house that have stopped me from projecting further. I am not really sure how to explain the presence. Although the presence for some reason resembles a female. I also began writing some of my more recent experiences on paper after they happen. I have also had a few experiences where it has felt like I was just getting "Sucked" up into the sky without any control. Out of fear I returned to my body and awakened.

I am kind of curious with my history, what methods anyone could suggest for trying to induce these before I go to sleep or during mid-day. I have heard of meditation techniques to induce these but I am not exactly sure which direction to go. I was wondering based on my explanation here if anyone could point me in the right direction. Like I said, I have never experienced these "vibrations", it has just always felt like a "shift" between one body and another. I am usually flying when these occur and not walking. As I have said earlier, as of recently I have been able to gain some control and turn around to look at my physical body laying back in bed. I have not however, been able to get complete control over destinations where I travel. I would say that I may have 1-2 projections every two weeks, although they can be very short, and most of them occur without intent.

Here is an example of one of my more recent experiences...

About a month ago my cat of 15 years old died. Her name was Bootsy and she was a great cat. She was inbred and was a bit on the crazy side. After she died and returned home we I had to go buy a plastic container to bury her in outside in our Yard. We had always intended to bury our cats once they died in a place outside near our garage. Our other cat is still living. After she died a few nights later I had a OBE that I did not induce. The first thing I wanted to do was visit bootsy's grave. My body shifted upwards and to the left. I began making my way through our hallway of our house and into the living room. The atmosphere during this particular experience was not very vivid. It was a very monochrome experience until I went outside. I went through the wall of our living room and outside. I saw our green grass and the hill that led to our garage. I ventured to the back of the garage and saw bootsy's grave site. It was marked with a rock and flowers in which we laid down when she died. The interesting thing about this entire OBE was the fact that when I reached my cat's grave site it was illuminated entirely in purple. I could not even see the rock, all I could see was a bright purple cloud. I researched this thoroughly and came to the conclusion that the color purple represented "mourning" in terms of Christianity. I quickly returned to my body and forced myself awake after being content with my experience.
