Quote from: intergalacticThat's all you have to say?
That's all I need to say. I'm trying to promote open-minded scepticism, not prove the existence of so-called 'psychics' and EVP. I don't believe most psychics are real, and I don't think I believe in EVP either. What I do believe however, is that we should be open-minded about these things.

It's called synaesthesia, and it's used as one explanation for aura vision.

I'm sure the cat had a greater shock!

Only the third link has any relevance to this topic. If you want to discuss the authenticity of 'psychics' start a new topic.
I'd also steer clear of Randi, as much as I would any other biased source - the reason being that he has a million dollars riding on his bet that there is no 'paranormal' or 'supernatural' 'psychic phenomena'.

Welcome to Out of Body Experiences! / What is this??
February 01, 2006, 13:57:02
Hmm.. That reminds me of a long long time ago, when I went to bed at about 8 or 9 PM, read a magazine for about five minutes and then my mum came into my room to wake me up. I was like  :WTF: ... I thought she was kidding until I looked at my watch and saw it was about 12 hours later. What happened to the missing time? I haven't a clue, but there wasn't a break in consciousness, so I didn't fall asleep.

 So that means I'm in focus 7 - 10 every time I shut my eyes..?

My second attunement wasn't as spectacular. My brain feels a little numb now...

Quote from: StookieTowards the end of "Ultimate Journey" Robert Monroe says there was a moment when he came back from an excursion and his body and heart rate had slowed considerably and he felt he could have died had he stayed out much longer.

Maybe it has more to do with your body going into a form of shock or something from an intense experience that it can't comprehend?
Or maybe he had heart problems...

Quote from: c_nebI encountered two human size beings - lots of hair but not as much as an ape or monkey - somewhere between human and ape and they had pointed heads.  No clothes.  They were indifferent to me.  They just looked at me and left.  Not interested I guess.  I'm just wondering if anyone else has seen a similar thing.
Did they have big feet?

For me, they usually carry on as normal, not seeming bothered.

Again, you're using the label 'psychic'. I hate that label. It's a word imposters use to trick people into thinking they are uberhumans. There are no all-round powerful skillful psychics in the world. There are only normal humans trying to learn talents that are rejected by common belief.

Scientifically proving something requires an open mind. Unfortunately these are a rare commodity. Look how you dissed EVP before even giving it a chance. I would love everything to be scientifically proved or disproved (in fact, I'm doing my own statistical study of the RTZ in OBEs, in the hope I can prove that something you see in an RTZ OBE is at least usually accurate). But, before we can simply 'prove' something you have to play around with it, learn a bit through experience, and attempt stuff that sounds stupid.

"Only those who attempt the absurd will achieve the impossible."
~ M. C. Escher

QuoteI'll tell you who believes this stuff gullible people that aren't ready to let go of a loved one.
I don't personally believe in EVP, but I like to keep an open mind. I agree that there are far too many 'gullible' people that too readily accept an idea without questioning it at all. But I'm still left defending this topic because there is the potential that at least some part of EVP is true, and until it is discussed, and experimented with, it will never be proved right or wrong.

QuoteThere is a reason we have Doctors with X rays a reason why we need to cut you open to heal you a reason why we use harsh drugs because it is the best we have, Your telling me your powerful psychics don't care about sick people in pain?
Again, you're somewhat correct, but ignoring a lot of things. I don't think there is a single healer in the world claiming to be able to heal everything. And if there is, they are probably lying. But, there have been studies that show that unconventional 'healing' practises work with at least some illnesses. There was a big televised study in the UK recently, that showed acupuncture affects an area of the brain that increases tolerance to pain.
I think most people will agree that any kind of 'healing' is a supplement to the kind of medicine a doctor will give.

QuoteIf a psychic proved themselves to be true imagine how the world would change they would go down in history the whole world would change there thinking of the universe and imagine the psychic would most likely be filthy rich and have not a care in the world.
Indeed, but they'd make more money if they claimed to do tricks, and started a TV series like Derren Brown. Lol.

Quote from: CFTravelerWhen I go into the pre-OBE state I get all kinds of noises, and sometimes voices. (I sometimes wonder if schizophrenia is in my future, although I'm already 48 and so far so good).  Every noise you can imagine I've heard, so my question is- if you were waking up from sleeping, couldn't it have been hypnopompic hallucinations?  They would be stronger and more lifelike because you were already dreaming before.  Was there any of the imagery from your dream in the hallucination?  I also have waken up many times from dreams only to see the dreams in front of me, for a while and then see them slowly dissappear.  Very interesting sight if you know what it is.  When I was a kid I would scream because I thought they were ghosts.
I did say it was hallucinations, yes. It was combined with sleep paralysis to form old hag syndrome (where someone finds they can't move and senses/sees an evil presence sitting on them).
I think the thrashing I heard on my pillow might have been from the dream (when I read the (dreamed) post on the forum I started to see the scene take place).

I had KR1 on wednesday night. The difference between before and after is startling! My mind is a whole lot less full of 'crap,' and it takes less effort to get up in the mornings. My physical senses seem more vivid at times now too.

Last night (or rather, this morning) I woke up from a weird dream (not the kind I'd normally have) into sleep paralysis.

I dreamt I was studying something spiritual at some far away place. I think I was a monk or something. I can remember walking around a sky-blue building in a dressing-gown-type outfit, and doing some assignments.
One thing I can remember was a diagram. It was like a compass except on each of the points it had a word written. Over north was written body, over east was spirit, over south was mind, and over west was soul. I remember it seemed to make sense to me to draw it as cyclical rather than a hierarchy, like an endless cycle of 'death' and 'incarnation'.
The next thing I can remember is reading a post on a forum (this one, I think) written by some guy who'd witnessed one girl get attacked by negative entities while she slept. Apparently she thrashed about as if trying to claw at something in the air. I was skeptical, as I don't believe negative entities are real, and then the dream ended and I opened my eyes.
I found I couldn't see through my left eye, and my left ear felt as if there was extreme pressure pressing on it - like when your ears pop on a plane, but ten times stronger.
I heard, through my right ear, something thrashing on my pillow, like a tail making a noise while swinging through the air. Then I started to hear my bed creak. I knew I wasn't moving so I didn't know what was making the noise.
I wondered if this was a kind of 'warning sign' for me to make sure I was taking neccessary precautions against psychic attack. Then I thought what the hell am I thinking, this is just a load of hallucinations.
I very quickly identified that the noise my bed was making was not the noise it makes in real life. Then I started to see big blobs of grey and brown light hovering a couple of feet in front of my face.
I looked down and saw my covers were halfway down my chest, but I could feel them on my chin, so I knew I was hallucinating.
I closed my eyes, ignored the sounds and sensations and tried to project, but without any success. The noises got quieter and quieter until I couldn't hear them anymore, and then I lay there for about five minutes wondering what the hell was just going on. Being too lazy to turn the light on, I reached for my pen and drew a squiggle on my hand to remind me about the experience when I woke up in the morning.

Anyway I'm curious as to what people think of this experience. This kind of experience (hallucinatory sleep paralysis) has only happened about eight times in my life, so I think the probability it would happen immediately after my first reiki attunement is very low. Therefore, I believe the dream and the sleep paralysis I experienced were related to the attunement.
I also want to point out that if I believed, as many newbies probably would, that I was being attacked by 'negs,' the experience would have got a whole lot worse (as the ones I've had before became). The creaking noise near my feet in the bed would have developed into a monster or ghostly figure, and from there it would have gone from bad to worse. Belief in negs would have caused more harm than would be prevented if they did exist.

Welcome to Metaphysics! / 11:11

Quote from: Soulja_it is not only on a clock it can be anything like door number a taxi or a phone number a jersey etc...
Well then, the odds of seeing 1111 in that way are damn near certain. Everyone will come across it every day of their life. Unfortunately the odds are impossible to work out accurately, but they will be much much much higher than the ones I calculated previously. I suspect, though, that people probably wouldn't notice it until after hearing about the '11.11 phenomenon'.

I have seen 11.11 on my clock.
If you see it 10 times a day, where do you see it? Because it only shows up on a clock twice a day :o

There's a lot of variables involved (what times you normally get up, what time you go to bed, how often you look at your clock, whether you have a watch, etc.).
Let's say you live until 80. There's about 365.25 days in a year (taking into account leap-years). That means there are 29220 days in your life. Let's say you randomly look at a clock once in a day, and with each minute equally likely. Consider how many minutes there are on the clock. 60*24 = 1440 minutes. The probability of randomly selecting 11.11 is 2/1440 = 1/720. So the expected outcome is 29220*1/720 = 40.6 (to one decimal place). The expected outcome is an average so it's quite likely you'd see it more often... And this isn't even taking into consideration that you probably look at your watch more than once, or are more likely to look at it around lunch time than around 4am, so I would expect most people to see it more than 45 - 50 times in their life.

Welcome to Astral Consciousness! / Re: The Fear
January 27, 2006, 13:08:49
Quote from: sleepangelhi there everyone,

I'm new to the forum, but have been interested in AP for a few months, when i was introduced to it by a friend.

i get sleep paralysis quite often, and there is always some sort of noise or movement around me when this occurs. i have been told that this could be entities of the astral or some other dimension. my problem is that, although i really want to project, i can't get over my fear of the paralysis. even when i attempt to AP i get extremely scared. does anyone else feel like this, and if so how did you get over your fear?

During sleep paralysis, hallucinations are quite common - and I think that's what you experienced (heck, I had some seriously freaky hallucinations at 4.00am this morning). Realising that they are just hallucinations often helps to tone them down a little.
I think there's a lot of misconception over negs. Most of the 'attacks' people experience can be attributed to hallucinations. Don't take for granted what other people say, always question them. For example, this morning, if I had believed that it was negs causing havoc in my room the hallucinations would have gotten MUCH worse.
Personally I don't think negs exist, and if they do, they are a very rare thing indeed, much rarer than people claim and probably can't do a thing to harm you anyway. If they could harm you during sleep paralysis, they could harm you while you're fully awake!

The last one (your glowing green arm) could have been your aura (or if you'd been staring at something pink for a long time it might have been caused by an after-image).
I'm not sure about the first two though, but I do see them myself. I have a feeling it might be to do with bloodcells moving around the retina.

Quote from: CoveloWho is doing the attacking which you speak of?... And how do you know about the 5-minute thing?
No ones doing the attacking. I meant everyone simultaneously logging on at once would have similar effects to an organised DoS. The five minute thing is mentioned at the bottom of the index page just under where it says who's logged on.
QuoteThis data is based on users active over the past five minutes

Quote from: intergalacticWe can clear this up right now  How about I ask you 10 questions and you give me the answer. If you get them right I'm a believer. In fact I'll challenge any psychic to answer 10 questions correctly I'll bet not one could do it.
Dude this is beside the point. This topics about EVP not all-round 'psychics' skillful at everything. If you dislike unconventional points of view then why are you here?

Quote from: izalcothe other night I had multiple OBe's in one night,

because the heater is faced the the my head, I sleep the other way as it gets to hot.

anyways, in my first OBE I woke up and felt like something was attached to my penis. Then my OBe started but something didnt seem right.

I started to run towards the living room, and was pulled back into my body, then I started to OBE again, and then I said, let me look at the clock.

the strange thing is, I remember everything clearly UNTIL I looked at my clock, then I cant remember anything....

anyone ever look at a clock while OBE?
Yes. The same effect happens in dreams, and in fact the effect is more visible there. Sometimes the clock doesn't show the time at all and instead displays words or symbols or shapes. Although, why you can't remember anything after looking at a clock, I don't know.

Quote from: CoveloThis might be cheating, but what if we all just stayed logged in and left our computers on that day?  Then we could at least know how many active users there are lurking these days.
Unfortunately the forum figures out how many users there are logged in by how many different users have requested a page in the last five minutes (requested a page means clicking a link or refreshing a page). So unless you wanted to sit there refreshing your browser every five minutes I don't think it'd work.

And I think paker7 meant that having 100's of users on at once would be a huge strain on the server's bandwidth. DoS (denial of service) attack are maliciously arranged in a similar way, when hundreds or thousands of computers request pages from the same server all at once, which leads to reduced speed, denial of service to legitimate users, and possible breakdown, lol.

Quote from: TantalordRecently i was attuned to the Usui Reiki level 1 and i have been told by my Reiki Master that i can send Reiki to any situation in my life that i wish for.So i came up with the idea to send Reiki to me in order to achieve an OBE.Until now i haven't achieved a fully-conscious OBE and I look forward to try this method.I will post any results that will occur.Does anyone here have tried this and if yes, what 'phrase' did he use when he send Reiki to this state?
While not exactly reiki (first attunement tonight), I did once try to 'send' energy to a situation to improve my chances with leaving my body. The morning after (when I wanted to induce this OBE) I had 6 lucid dreams and 3 OBEs... Quite an achievement.
I can't remember exactly what I did, but I think I made a kind of psi-ball construct to look after itself for a few hours while gathering random bits of energy around my room and then come back to me to be reabsorbed. But this was quite a while ago, and my memory's not too good.

I'm not too familiar with Monroe's model (still learning!) but in a couple of my experiences I saw small low-flying clouds. When I passed through them time seemed to either stop or go backwards. In one of my experiences I even bumped into my astral body from the past as a result of this.
