Welcome to Astral Chat! / OBE stuff and Australia

Pfft... stereotyping...

First of all, I don't even have a clue as to what a Yank is, but I know that Americans are labeled by such a thing.  Second, I don't do said action, and so a change of wording is in order.

I've noticed something from my time here, and that's what one country thinks of another country.  I know in the U.S. we aren't caught too many things about other countries unless we're taking a forieign language from that country.  I don't know your curriculum, but if you can evaluate that all of America is too busy looking at that, it's an amazing feat!

This is the only site I spend time on online.  I ain't your average Yank.

And now, back to our scheduled program already in progress...the topic at hand.

Maybe instead of simply assuming you could gather circumstantial evidence and formulate a general location for the most Astral Travellers.  I actually thought there were a lot from the UK as well.  Maybe the numbers are just about 25% each? (leaving room for everyone else, of course)

Welcome to Astral Chat! / Apologies and frustrations
November 09, 2003, 09:48:24
F_T, I'm the same way, even though I'm sure it's hard to find it [:I]

Somehow, this is the first place online where I've actually built up some form of respect with other people.  It truly is amazing, because anywhere else (including reality) I'm seen as a 12-year old who has a severe case of adhd.

Of course it bothers me that some of the kids here don't realize the stupidity of their actions.  Of course we have to go tell them why they are stupid, because you and I are just like that, even from the beginning.

In school, you wouldn't believe how much crap I have to put up with day in and day out, and I have to maintain my composure the whole freakin time because that's what I was taught to do.  I get heckled for the most retarded things in life...  I actually don't even want to delve into that.

Just know you aren't alone in your struggles to get over this.

Sorry...  It's just there's so many people doing said actions, and it bothers be because I believe I started the craze.

I shouldn't have accused you of it.  I apologize.

Congratulations on the 500th post.

Don't relate me to him corvette... I don't post random things just to gain post count.  My posts have relevance.

And I'm no longer in the "post count" game, ok?  Don't refer to me as that person any longer.

Greatly appreciated.

batty - I can't just "tell" you the ending, it's much too complex for that.  The secret ending takes place in the future of the world of Kingdom Hearts.  The characters are unknown at this point.  Stuff happens.  Watch it yourself.

Speaking of which... I beat it then, yes, but I had left out a few things that were much too hard at the time.  After a few more days with the game I have it 100% completed.  I have the best weapons for all characters, I'm at level 100, I have all the dalmations, and even the Big 4 has felt my wrath.  If you didn't know, the big 4 are:

Phantom - A phantom.  He chills around the clock tower (big ben) and uses this clock as a device to kill one of your teammates until the end of battle.  You can't just hit him with physical attacks, you have to use the corresponding magic with the color of his orb.  It sucks.

Kurt Zisa - A robot in the desert.  He has 6 swords and 2 arms.  Odd.  He uses these swords way too much... like becoming a disc (vertical AND horizontal) and spinning after you, which really hurts.  He has two forms: Magical prevention and Physical prevention, which means in one mode you can't use magic, and the other you can't hit him without magic.

Ice Titan - A titan, made of ICE!  He's featured in "Hercules" if you saw it.  He has ice-based attacks like freezing and missles (icicles).  Well, since he's about 200 feet tall, you have to actually deflect the missles back at him while dodging 50 other attacks. Funyuns.

SEPHIROTH - It's freakin sephiroth.  Sephiroth, from FFVII.  The dude with one wing.  He sucks to fight against.  He uses a 5-foot long masamune and his dirty little tricks, like teleporting behind you and slicing you up.  He (OF COURSE) has to have an attack that will rid you of all your magic and leaves you with 1 hp.  And OBVIOUSLY he has to have a multiple slash attack that is near impossible to avoid.  And surely you know he has a meteor attack where he is invunerable and you feel pain!

I beat him 3 times now.

Kingdom Hearts, 100%  Add it to the list.

If I read correctly, then I would agree with you 100% cinnabardk!

What I think you were saying is the topics are becoming devoid of the topic, IE; useless posts divert attention from the at-hand discussion.

I have seen this happen as well, and I have stated my opinion on the matter elsewhere.

I don't want to bash you at all here, I want to commend you on your forthrightness.  And I apologize again for what happened in my spelling topic.

Relevance is the issue here, correct? In which case I can see the common offenders posting here with a few words answering the topic sentence (Not the actual post), simply to increase their post count further.

Note that I once aimed toward massive post count, but I quit such actions a few weeks ago.  I hope those who are doing the same will follow my example.

Thank you for the topic cinnabardk [:)]

Once again you've missed the reference point here beavis.

Does it make sense now?

Once AGAIN!  This is NOT MEANT to be a debate! Don't make it one!

Read carefully to find the main point of this topic.  It is in the last line of one of my posts.

Short and Sweet.

I will NOT conform to the wrong way.  Don't even make that suggestion!

Numbers shouldn't have ever replaced full words.  Full words shouldn't have ever been shortened, especially since most of the words you've shortened were about three letters long in the first place!

Grr...*shakes fist*

English isn't a superior language, but it is the one we use here at the forums.

And with your example of pronunciation, I say yes.  There shouldn't be a time when the language you know best is used less than any other time.

What I don't like is the primary counter-argument.  The majority of the defense is "...as long as people can read it..."

This in not read can be though it order is.

Nobody types like that, but the point is, that's proof that it's still readable, but it makes no sense.  I could find examples for you, but why don't I just let you do that for yourself.

This topic was aimed towards finding the source of the problem and resolving it.  I didn't want to start another debate.

Welcome to Astral Chat! / A few questions....
November 04, 2003, 20:46:45
Thank you James and Tisha [8D]

Here I go!

  • What is your best physical feature?

As much as I hate my eyes for crappin out on me when I was 6, all of the sudden they have become 3 different colors.  It looks awesome.

  • Tell me something profound.

I hate school.  I don't do work, and I manage to pull out A's.  Bothers a lot of other people, especially when I tell them I play games during class.

  • How many of your aspirations have you lived out/still plan to live out? What were/are they?

Well, I want to be a software engineer for a major video game development company.  Since that's 5 years off, my goal for this year is to Astral Project!

  • If you could have an international holiday named after you, what would it be and in celebration of what?

NATIONAL SQUEEKINS DAY!  Everybody gets a miniature mouse plushie and at the exact same time across the world, they squeeze it and it goes SQUEEK!

  • How many selfless acts of kindness have you committed this week? What were they?

While I was fixing a computer in this classroom, I was playing with this stuffed doggie (I love stuffed animals [|)]) and so the teacher was like, "You can have that."  So I kept it. My friend really wanted it so I gave it to him.

  • What word best describes your personality?

Super-Hyper-Mega-Ultra-Awesome.

  • Most proud moment?

When I won the third spelling bee in my last year of elementary school.  This was apparantly a record, and a plaque was promised... but of course they never gave me my plaque.

  • When (AHEM! If) you die, what do you want to be remembered as/by?

Remember me as I am... the Emperor of Squeektopia.

  • Are you more happy alone, with your significant-other, surrounded by close friends and family, or lost in the crowd?

All by my little lonesome [:)]

  • One piece of advice you could offer to younger generations (even if you're a teen yourself you've learned something!)

Do what you want to do in life.  Don't ever let anybody tell you something isn't possible.

  • Say one 'nice' thing about [at least] 3 forum members (I hear you groan but you know you'll be rushing back to see who's mentioned you)

First of all, don't assume this is hard.

JAMES S!  James and I... we're opposite ends of the spectrum here.  I'm about 20 years younger than he and I live thousands of miles away, but you wouldn't know it by lookin at us.  I like to consider James my comical other.

NAAAAY!!  Nay and I chat ALL THE TIME.  Nay talks about it here, I don't.  Meh.  She likes to think that I criticize her actions all the time (Such as her dots... grr... them dots be wack j0...) and of course I correct her spelling errors... that makes her more angry with me [|)]  But Nay gives me the confidence and courage to do things I don't want to do, but know that I have to.  THANKS NAY!

TISHA!  Supermom #2!  Tisha's awesome man..  She doubles as Elvira, she wrote an essay for us all, and she's got the experience and know-how to keep us learning more and more every day!  GO TISHA!

PEACEFULWARRIOR!  Videogaming "freak" #2 (Behind me [;)])  He keeps topics interesting for us all with his graphical amazingness.  Oooh. Aaah.

TOM!  Good ol' Tom.  Tom used to come here, but as you can easily see by the members list, he hasn't since May.  He's still the top runner of posts here, and all of them are intellectually fitting.

FRANK!  OBE expert #2!  COME BACK FRANK!  Frank and Tom almost seem like the same person to me.  Both of them always had the most intelligent thing to add to your topics!  Just... come back!

ANYBODY ELSE I DIDN'T MENTION!  I know anybody that didn't get listed is mad.  Well, it's my freakin bed time, so Too Darn BAD!  Just Kiddin.  I'll acknowledge Adrian, Nick, Risu no Kairu, Fat_Turkey, Panabelle, Goingslow, Mayatnik, Kakkarot, Links Shadow, ... XVirus (HAHA! Just Kidding folks!)  Man I'm tired.

Don't feel bad if I left you off.  Everybody else only did three.  (Nyah hahaha)

I specifically did not target people who know English as a second language.  Sorry if that wasn't made clear to you.  I apologize for making you feel the way you felt, and let anyone else know the only concern I have with this is for the people that have English as their primary language.

Don't feel sad. [:)]  No criticism was meant towards you.

Truth be known, this only bothers me because I see it as a lack of care amongst those who do such things.  This lack of care stemmed from their lack of care for the education system, and so the proper forms of English are lost upon them.

For some reason I have always been a stickler for this type of thing.  I don't know why.  When I was in elementary school I had the school record for winning the most spelling bees in my 5 years there. (I won 3, went on to districts... They were supposed to give me a plaque.  They lied.)  My spelling / grammar / vocabulary has always scored me easy A's in English all throughout my time in school.

My first statement still comes into play here Leyla.  I shouldn't care so much, but I do.

I overly-exaggerated the fact that I get angry about this.  Sorry about that.  It just bothers me to see these kids not getting the most out of their education, that's all.

Mustard - I read your post but didn't quite understand what you were talking about at first.  I don't intend to make a new language to adapt here.  To answer your non-interrogative questions, I don't plan on marrying, having children, or even entering the dating world in general.  Sad, but true.

Corvette - That's leet.  That's not English, it is just a derivative.  Hackers use such language to avoid being traced.  Now everybody knows about it, thus making it devoid of its privacy.

One reason I don't like this whole situation is it forces me to stoop to the level of these people in order to get my message across.  I want to be able to use the vocabulary I know without the other person having to look up the words I say on dictionary.com or something.

If I were so inclined to post an eloquent statement, I would leap at said opportunity.  Blah.

I'm not angry. I don't stress out about this.  Just let me enjoy my pizza. [|)]

No beavis, that's almost perfect.  It's the other stuff that makes me cringe.

You used capitalization and near-perfect punctuation.  Only one word is spelled incorrectly, and it's just a hyphenated error.  All of the commonly-confused English words are written correctly.  It has meaning to it as well, as it states the reason you don't go to the parking lots at Wendy's Restaurants.  If there were a topic concerning this, it would fit in quite rightly.

Did it honestly take you longer to type it out the "right" way?

Rodentmouse... it's not arrogance if it is simply a statement of the truth.  I put online the things I want people to know about me, but the rest is a mystery.  I didn't want to come off as arrogant, I wanted to lead the reader into the depths of my biggest annoyance.  If I just opened the topic with "LEARN TO SPELL!"  Nobody would be posting here with positive comments.

And I appreciate the people taking the time to "fix" my posts. [:)]  Like I said, nobody's perfect.

~Squeek

PS - James, thanks for locking that topic.
#167
Thanks for all the awesome people who think this is a problem that have replied!  You rock.

Beavis - It's not just the fact that you can remove some vowels in words to "simplify" it, it's that the word changes meaning when you do so.  I pronounce words the way they are written.

Two buh are not two buh.  (2 b r not 2 b)

You cannot use a B alone in this context.  Since this is incomprehensible, I must pronounce it the way I see fit.

buh four oo ih ee dant ivve key err (b 4 u i y dont ive c r)

That's how I pronounce your letters.  Correct me if I'm wrong.

Look.  I realize that some people just don't have a lot to write about.. but I'm asking if we could just make it relevant and readable.  I see these posts and I just skip over them, because I know the person has no valid input, and reading it will only further my annoyance with them.

It shouldn't have gotten this way.  Nobody should have these "simplifications".  (Note how I always say this in quotes.  I say this because what is "simpler" for you is actually much harder for me.  It's not easy breaking the rules of English.)

I don't want to blame this on age or maturity, I want to blame it on the Internet.

~Squeek

PS - If anybody was ever wondering about my colors, it signifies that I have spent the time to type out the post, and had some extra time to add in a bit of flair to the message.

It's sad to think that it's true...

That proper grammar has become the "minority" online.

quote:
1. This is the net! ITs not a classroom where we all must be gramaticly correct!

2. As long as it is readable, its fine!

3. Im sorry if other people and I do not have the time to post a 4 paragraph reply. Reasons are we do not have that much content or its just opinion.

If you can not tolerate this, then too bad! People that type correctly are a minority online. Visit other forums, there are few people that type right.

Also about IM's. I wont type correctly in a IM. Its just dumb. You type like How r u doing man?

1. It's a classroom setting to me... I mean you've got the people interested in learning, and the people that supply the information.  How is this not a classroom setting?  Sure, it isn't your school, but you aren't competing for grades here.  You're competing for credibility.  In recent days you and beavis have immensely lost all credibility you once had.  Sorry if this comes as a shock to you both.

2. As long as it's readable?  "thsisi barley rdabl 2 me."  Why are we conforming to this in the first place?  This is the reason I have put my foot down on this issue.  I'm done with being forced to know two different versions of English!  I want to know the one and only version: The right one.

3. Don't have time?!  What's stopping you?!  I share the internet with my sister.  It's a 28.8 modem.  I go so slow that it takes at least 50 seconds to open a single page on this site.  Any pictures, and it doubles the time.

Follow-up.  This place used to be one of those places that people used English the way it was meant to be used.  Somehow within the last 5 months it has all dramatically dropped to the other end of the spectrum.  And I hope the "You" referred to the general public, and not to me, because you've talked to me on AIM and you know I do not do that.

Like I said, it shouldn't bother me, but it does.

And Risu, thanks for pointing out my errors.  Proves to you that I'm not perfect, but I strive to be.

Let's see some more posts [:)] Particularly about how this all came about.  I want to see if other people think the same thing I do.

~Squeek

YAY for triple posts!

Nobody's talking anymore.  It's very irritating.

Last Saturday my friend and I traded systems.  I got his PS2, and he got my GCN.  I only wanted it for Kingdom Hearts, of course.

And so I was playing that for a week.  Now I'm not... because I finished it.  Yea I completely completed Kingdom Hearts within a week [B)]  I even got the Special Secret bonus at the end.  Funyuns.

Now I want my GCN back [|)]  And I want someone else to SAY SOMETHING!

This is only a problem to you because you have been taught that "drugs" are bad, and that they "mess you up".  Not all "drugs" are like that you know. Apparently the "drugs" that they are referring to actually aid your progress.

And besides...you don't have to if you don't want to.  Personally I find your posts offensive for lack of grammar [:D]

~Squeek
#171
Beavis is dead on here.  Misspellings aren't just like  "liek, jsut, adn" all of the time.  Most people simply do not care for proper grammar.  They seem to think that typing "u, r, 2, b, 4, y, etc" is easier.  Well... it ain't easier for the reader.  If you think about it, you're really leaving me an option for the word you really meant.

2 = to? too? two? or did you really mean the number 2?

4 = for? four? or did you really mean the number 2?

y = and (spanish)? why? x + y = z (variable)?

b = be? bee? bea?

Seriously, adding a spell check will not do a thing.  The spelling errors are not in big words, they're in words that people don't look over while they're typing.  Occassionally, we all make mistakes.

quote:
lif is to importand to wast that is y i will never lose my will to live and im not going to let sum stupid kid act like he is a d___ deamon so come to mayfield and i will kick ur a__ and show u that ur not a demaon so stfu with the demaon s___

This shouldn't even be tolerated.  Sheesh.  Where is the punctuation? The capitalization?

quote:
who cares i mean he is so f uped i am to the point of well can tthink of the word ok

That's not even a sentence.  COME ON NOW.  If we allow more spelling shortcuts onto the internet it will all become much worse further down the road.  Such as...

T n e a s. C O N. I w a m s s o t i i w a b m w f d t r. S a...

And we'll all know what I'm saying.

Oh and also, I took the time to type out those ARDUOUS extra two keys along the way.  Man, typing the word "to" was impossibly hard.

One more thing, I realize that some people have english as a second language thing going on.  That's perfectly fine, I'm not targeting you.  I'm targeting the 12-15 year old kids in America that can't even speak the lingo.

~Squeek

Government is a tricky issue to deal with... especially against the people that would stick up for it no matter what.

We've got a lot of problems in the system of government over here.  With the change of power over to republican suddenly it seems that the government is only interested in money.  And if that's the case, then of course all the people have to only care about money as well.  Doesn't that sound familiar anyway?  Forced to work a 9-5 (or 7-6 in my mom's case) job for little pay just to scrape by when we have the rich who live off of the interest of billions of dollars.

Pass a law to allow snowmobiles in Yellowstone? SURE!  Let a bill through that allows the poaching of endangered species? Where do I sign!  Let's drill for oil in ALASKA!  We're sure to be rich off of that!  Money Money MONEY!!!

What's up with healthcare?  I'm only 17 but I know a thing or two about it... how can a stupid little pill with bothersome side-effects cost so much money?!  And why is it 90% cheaper in Canada?

Like I said, there are a lot of things in our government that we have problems with here.  The patriot act is just the newest nuisance.  Do you know why these laws pass?  To instill fear into the public.  Now people are afraid of doing bad things, breaking the law, and hacking servers on the internet.  Supposedly this protects us from the supposed terrorists.  And it will help us win the war we started with a country that didn't want it, and did nothing wrong.

...One Nation, indivisible, with liberty...

Welcome to Astral Chat! / All I know is...
October 27, 2003, 13:16:15
Hey Beavis -

Right on man!  I agree with you that we have some phrases that we've gathered, tarnished, reproduced, lather, rinse, repeat.  Such as
"I could care less"

We all think somehow that means you don't care.  Well, you're actually saying you care some, but it is possible to care even less.  But you do care.  This came from "I couldn't care less"

And what about our complimentary phrases?!  I was sitting in Geosystems today after a test thinking about the phrase "Thank You".  What does it even mean?  "I give my thanks to you?"  What are thanks?  I think it came from thanksgiving... but anyway...it's all about these phrases we invent and even make up new words for it all.  Makes no sense.

You know what bugs me even more is misspellings of common words... The one I see the most often these days is "loose" and "lose".  Loose means it is not secure, and may fall off.  Lose means gone.  You lost it, therefore it is not there.  Please (not pls or plz) try to see that... bugs the crap outta me.

And what does that phrase mean?!

You're getting very good at it...but maybe you should concentrate on the test more [;)]

When you and your friend are comfortable with colors... you should go onto shapes...fruits...etc.  Then words and such.  Keep at it [:)]

And try to actually do the test when you have a chance... I should have.  I'm a senior now (had no school today because of it [|)] ) and I wish I would have taken the PSAT seriously.  I got an 1110 on the real deal.  I have no idea if I'll be able to even get into college...

WAIT...no more of this depressing crap.  Keep at it, you and your friend are doing great!

YAY for double posts.

Super Monkey Ball 2 is now DONE.  I spent the entire weekend on this game.  Oh man it's not even funny how hard some of the last few levels were.

From Expert mode you have to beat the original 50 levels, and then 10 more in Expert Extra, all without using a continue.  This unlocks Master mode.  Master is only 10 levels, and Master Extra is 10 more.  But let me tell you... when they say MASTER they MEAN IT.

For example let's take the final level in the game...  Master Extra level 10.  The level is called "Nintendo".  The surface you play on is a gamecube.  Fully rendered, fully detailed.  All the screws, holes, stickers, and grooves are present.  Now you have to stay on it as it rotates.  It rotates 5 times starting from the bottom to the sides, and around to the top.  You can easily get stuck in the grooves if you were wondering.  When you're on the top you have a few seconds before the lid opens and the goal pops out for you to shoot it. If I made this sound easy...  I could add in the amount of frustration I spent on this level for you.  I almost busted my controller when I got mad [:I]

But now that I beat it I'm still not done playing.  I'm setting new high scores in the mini-games and everything.  Maybe when I get bored of that I'll go finish the last level in Bond.  Then maybe to Sonic.

Oh yea... I'm looking into buying Animal Crossing.  The game that plays while you're not on it [|)]  Only 25-30 bucks!

~Squeek
