My second try changed situation a bit, the anchor moved to the throat area, resulting in eventual gasp for air and causing something like a badly sore throat feeling. Gasping for air subsided the vibes, but they just kept coming and i eventually felt to exhausted (after four hours or so) that I made myself get out of bed and walk around the house. For a while I had equilibrium problems as my body wanted to wave (forcing me to swing back and forth) and I had to grab on to something to prevent falling at some point. I had trouble opening my eyes completely and had to force it open. After a while things calmed down and i went to sleep.

It takes some days to get used to these sensations and they usually go away after a few attempts.
If you feel 'anchored' to some part of your body, the best thing is to slow down, go back a few steps and try to relax more and then continue again.

Just go to Sleep ..... but don't.

Belief systems do play a role, as far as, your approach to AP is concerned.

But I don't think any particular belief will aid in AP. There are hardcore skeptics, who refuse to entertain this subject, and who reject everything as hallucinations .... on the one hand, and on the other there are gullibles, who accept anything thats written in the new age books or on the web and almost delude themselves into believing that every other dream they have is an AP.

And there are people who fall in between these two extremes. However I'm yet to see any evidence of beliefs acting as a catalyst for AP.

What actually helps is, assuming that its a sort of game or an experiment, of which no one knows anything, all they can say are speculations, keeping an unbiased open minded view. A curiosity, a passion to find out what is real, what is true.

It helps to blindly follow the methods initially, and to try out stuff without questioning, who knows what will work.... But do not have any opinions about anything initially. I do this, I get this, now lets go further and try this..... so you progress.

Ya the feeling as if breathing has stopped in very common, I do experience it sometimes.
The best way is to forget about breathing (and let it happen automatically), BEFORE you enter the vibration stage. For those who don't get vibrations, its equivalent to a state when you feel light as air and lose all sensation of the body.

You can try OBE many times in day, depending on your energy levels. But too many and long ones will leave you drained.
#155
You are welcome :)

Keeping a passive and "I don't care" mood helps.
You can try different things too, like not exercising and just returning to bed after a hot shower etc.

Simply visualizing about something is not going to work.... it'd be a simple day dream.

You need the right condition of your body and mind and most importantly you should be in a deep trance. You need to silence your mind, do some energy work and breath work etc and then try to enter the vibe state and then use some exit technique to get out.

I suggest reading some books before you spend valuable time on it and then follow the methods systematically, step by step.

Robert Bruce's "Mastering Astral Projection in 90 Days" is a good book to start with.

Its a bitter truth that for us ordinary guys, AP works only a few times out of scores of attempts. One should accept this fact and keep one's expectations accordingly. Only masters can AP at will and it should be our goal to become a master, which cannot happen in just a few days or by listening to some CDs or by attending workshops. They do help anyway, but it takes a lot of practice to actually achieve this thing. (Just see the number of people who can AP at will, and you will know why its so difficult. The techniques are not so difficult, but people don't persist).

Sometimes I can induce the vibrations via mediation and the Hemi-synch CD's, but when I get to that exit point my body jerks and its pretty much game over for me.

Its good that you can reach the vibe state, but .... if it fails after that, have you considered switching the technique and trying something else. If your technique fails repeatedly, may be its not for you. I'd suggest trying many different techs and experimenting. Some work, some don't.

Here is a nice compilation of a ton of techs -

There are other times when I extremely exhausted, physically, when my only intent is to physically sleep. During these moments, sometimes I am successful and do get out of my body, but I'm never able to leave the bedroom and when I do I loose consciousness and dream elements began to enter my mind, and then I just dream.

This is a typical low energy projection, which should not last more than a couple of seconds. A successful (even if short) projection demands that your mind remains as conscious as it is now, while the body sleeps peacefully (may be not so deeply).

Best thing to do is to not to worry about projecting when you are too tired, and instead sleep deeply and for a longer time than you usually sleep. When you wake up, you do you routines for an hour or two and go back to bed.... that is the best situation for AP.

We beginners must intentionally create situations that are most favorable for an AP, and then hope for the best. Once you know what actually makes it work every time and for sure, you have mastered it.

If you are not already aware, Robert Bruce has posted seven videos on the topic of Astral projection basics on his blog.

These are a must watch, especially for beginners.

Its not half asleep exactly, its when your mind is fully awake and body is fully asleep , when you get a chance to consciously peep into astral.

All the best :)

I can focus on my hearing and hear this ringing noise in my ears any time I want to.  Its not painful its just there when I focus on it.  I notice when i relax I can hear hear it clearer.  But how does this put you in a trance or help with OBE?

Listening to the ringing in ears is merely a method of taking your mind off the physical and keeping it focused enough so that you don't fall totally asleep or you don't start talking to self endlessly (internal chatter).

Another way is to focus on breathing, but I personally do not prefer it, as it make me remember my physical body and transition from awareness of breathing to non-physical is too tricky to perform.

Simply hearing it ring when you are doing normal stuff is not enough and won't put you OOB instantly, you need to relax and be on the border of sleep/wakefulness.

Finally you must let go of the ringing or any other noises. The Astral is a very very silent place (unless you encounter something which makes 'sounds') and if you can still hear the ringing or anything related to physical, you are not totally out. Mostly this will happen on its own.

any advice for what to do next? :-D

You are almost there. Keep practicing ... :)
Next, you should try to hover between sleep and wakefulness (mind awake and body asleep) state. In this state there should not be any sensation of the body. (To simply know that you are in the bed and have a body is ok, but if you are getting sensations out it, then your mind is not fully disconnected from physical yet, so go deeper)

Once you have a floating or falling sensation, you are probably already out or you can use one of the exit techniques, like rolling over etc. Noises in the head, like banging or whooshing sounds are an indicator of separation.
#162
You can try the method of progressively relaxing each of your muscles, then silencing your mind and observing the moving patterns behind the eyelids or listening to the ringing noise in your ears.

In essence, forget your body.
#163
Yes, its absolutely normal ... LoL

Sometimes the noises are made up by our own mind, sometimes they are real.
But nothing to be worried about, you just need to ignore them.
#164
I'm guessing that you are new to this subject, so please read some material from Robert Bruce (most of his work is online and free) and others, if you are so inclined towards the theory and terminology.

Best way to learn the stuff is by doing it. But my personal opinion is one should concentrate on one's spiritual development , astral projection is merely a step forward in that direction.
#165
Best thing to do would be to read several books on the subject and search the net on the topic.
Reading these forums will help greatly too....
#166
You let loose many of those ????
:D

The first thing I'd do is run away with my astral tail between my legs, let alone communicate with it.... ;)

If it were a sexy babe .... aha ;)

The heart chakra feeling, is not in any way comparable to a normal beating heart. The one time it happened to me I felt like I was literally going to explode... it was unbearable. It was not a fun, and a very scary feeling.

I can relate to that.
Relax, nothing bad can happen here.
#168
Yes, rapid heart beat is a sign that you are very close to AP, but it also means that you are not relaxed enough and still conscious of beating heart and breathing etc.

Other times it means that its not the actual heart but 'heart chakra' that is pulsating fast, its harmless and should stop in few minutes. If you have enough practice and manage to remain conscious at that time, you will see that the pulsations are coming from something non-physical and the actual heart is calm and beating normally.

If you feel that its not one of the above, then quickly abort the process and see a doctor asap, because it can be a weak heart....Proceed only if all tests come favorable.
#169
I guess, there is no harm in buying some books by R Bruce and Monroe, they are priceless, and rest of the stuff is well accessories....
Most of the material which can get you started in totally free and available throughout the net. Like the basics and exit techniques.

Welcome :)
Things are indeed silly in this field but not really so...

1 - Ya its possible, and I'm saying this just because I've read stories of this happening to the people. But those who are learning should concentrate on learning, as even if such thing happens and someone does that favor (it will take a master to search for you in astral and reach there and take you out of your body, too difficult, IMO), there is no guarantee that you will be aware of it or even remember it.

2- It does get easier, in my own experience, but again nothing is written on stone in astral. Sometimes there are long periods of inactivity (dry spells) on which you have no control. Sometime the oobes shower on you.

Best way is to go about the routine of meditations, keeping the mind clear of thoughts and intentionally creating situations where the body asleep and mind awake thing occurs. (Thats get up early and go to bed method etc)

Best of luck. :)
#171
Well, I set that up like that intentionally after giving it some thought and considering the way real experiments are performed by scientists. There must be a lot of redundancy and careful planning to make it fail safe.

Problem with knowing the object before the experiment is that its not double blind this way and a skeptic will get a chance to say that the person secretly told someone or that it was only telepathy or RV,  not obe etc.

Keeping only one object in only one place doesn't make it full proof, because if you fail to find it or reach that place, you dont have any other options and you must return to the body without any info. We all know how unpredictable astral travel is.

Multiple locations also means we have more than enough positives to rule out chances and a good set of stats to conclude from.

To make it more solid, you may perform the same set of experiments many times, with different set of objects and places each time.
#172
This is a fun experiment to do :)
And I won't discourage anyone who wants to try, who knows... anything is possible.

Nobody will ever know if there is life there, its always 50-50. If the poster is trying to get a verification or something like that, then its more practical to do something like this :

1- Take some objects that are very unique and very noticable, (like brightly colored hand made toys or such) and place them in indistinguishable boxes (of same color size material etc). So that you dont know which object went into which box.

2- The box must be loose (not glued) and use only a rubber band to keep it in place. It must be closed such that when the rubber band or thread breaks, it falls off and uncovers the object totally.

3- Shuffle the boxes well and place each box on the top of a popular building (school, university or a big hotel, or water tanks etc). The place should be reachable only via air (or with difficulty, so that no one disturbs it).

4- Tie some cigarette or incense stick on the rubber band and light it. Leave that place. After some time the rubber band will burn and uncover the object, but no one will know what it is.

5- Now forum members or those who are able to AP can try going to these places and report the findings here.

6- Some building where there is nothing should be named, so that it forms a control and makes it more scientific.

7- Once the trial is over, someone can go and see the objects and compare the results.
#173
Yes, these are the signs of astral body loosening up, vibes, 'floating fingers', etc.

Good thing is that you managed to stay aware while this is taking place, you are on the right path :)

Welcome to Astral Consciousness! / Re: Relaxation
November 04, 2008, 09:28:26
The post is now old but anyway my favorite method of relaxation is to lie down in a comfortable position (not too comfortable) and progressively relax all the muscles from toes to head one by one. (contract, hold and release the muscles).

It may take 2 or 3 rounds to feel ok. After that some energy work (mostly NEW) and then breathing work to make the breathing effortless and automatic.

Once you are there, relaxing the mind starts, concentrating on breathing for a while, mantras may work for some and then inner silence.

Once you are located in head with inner silence and the body is almost forgotten, you can hear the ringing loudly and clearly. This is the time to withdraw attention from breathing or mantra or whatever physical you are doing and concentrate passive on the ringing.

The nature takes over from there.
#175
You are almost there :)

All you need to do is stay calm and curious when these sensations and sounds are happening, wait a bit, till everything goes dead silent and then will yourself away from the bed (without thinking about the actual body, else you will be back there).

Even if the sensations don't subside, still try to will yourself away. Once you are away (say in another room), you can try for visuals. (Best way is to try to see your hands).

You will see that the 'will to move' operates from the area of belly button.
Good luck ....
