Welcome to Dreams! / Re: dream after image
November 26, 2006, 18:01:06
That happens to me when I haven't had enough sleep, or wake abruptly.

Being awake is an immersive experience, in that you can't enter another state of consciousness without effort. When you stay awake too long, the opposite problem occurs -- you are unable to maintain a normal state of consciousness. Three days without sleep is long enough to give most people hallucinations. This website has more information.

That was an excellent first post.

My advice is to stop smoking the herb. Between the insomnia and drug use you are headed for an 'immersive' experience which could be more intense and prolonged than you'd like.

You shouldn't be on meds unless you are unable to function without them. Psychiatric meds like Seroquel are less effective than the last generation, and have dangerous side effects when used long-term.

The audio is too loud and distorted.  :-(

Edit: it sounded more normal after he went live.

You should report this to his doctor right away. It's really unlikely that he has skin cancer at such a young age.
#158
Please reconsider doing this, it is very stressful for your mind and body.

Paranoid schizophrenia. Imagine being in the hypnogogic state, when loose associations in your thinking create seemingly random and unrelated thoughts; now imagine being stuck in that state all the time. Their waking state is a lot like a dream. Once you get to know their inner emotional world (subjective reality), you come to understand their descriptions of objective reality.

You should be able to buy a PCI card with USB ports fairly cheaply. Try newegg.com.

The Nature Incidence and Impact of Paranormal Experiences

"My name is Rosemary Breen and I am conducting a student research project at Monash University, Melbourne, Australia. This research forms part of my Master of Education (Research) degree and it is being supervised by Dr Beverley Jane, a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Education. This study has been approved by the Ethics Review Board of the University.

The aim of the research is to gather more information about people's experiences of the paranormal. By paranormal we mean those events that cannot be explained using the current laws of science. Included in this group are out-of-body and near-death experiences, premonitions, telepathy, and apparitions. We are interested to know more about these paranormal experiences, how often they occur, at what age they start, and the impact they have on those who experience them. Your answers are important to us, regardless of whether you have or have not had such experiences. We especially invite people who have had paranormal experiences but have been reluctant to talk about them until now.

...

The study is organised as an online survey which, depending on the amount of information you offer, will take around 10 minutes to complete. The information you give will not have any identification tags attached to it when it is received, stored or sent, in summary format to the researchers. Being in this study is completely voluntary. Your anonymity and the confidentiality of your statements will be protected. You will not be asked to give any information that may identify you and we will not attempt to contact you in the future. Only code names will be used in the writing of the research report. The information collected will be stored as raw CSV data in our database for 5 years in accordance with Monash University's regulations. In addition to the results of this study being presented for the Master's thesis it is anticipated that related articles may appear in professional publications and the data gathered may form the basis of future research projects. However, no individual will be identified in any way."

I haven't taken this survey yet. If possible, you might want to note that you found the survey via this website.

That would be sleep paralysis. Those who experience it for the first time often think they are dying. :-o The good news is that you aren't in danger, and you can even have fun with it if you learn to project during an episode.

Welcome to Spiritual Evolution! / Re: breakup

The loss of a fulfilling relationship would naturally leave you feeling empty. Give yourself some time to recover,  then find a new source of joy.

Until you are enlightened, you will always have attachments; don't get attached to being unattached.

Look at those large chunks of material shooting away from the building in that small jet of smoke. Where did those pieces of debris come from if the destroyed parts of the building are still 5-6 floors above? Think about it: if it wasn't an explosion that forced that material out the window, then somehow the debris field accelerated through the undestroyed floors and popped out of those two windows.

Slow brain waves play key role in coordinating complex activity

By measuring electrical activity in the brains of pre-surgical epilepsy patients, the researchers have found the first evidence that slow brain oscillations, or theta waves, "tune in" the fast brain oscillations called high-gamma waves that signal the transmission of information between different areas of the brain. In this way, the researchers argue, areas like the auditory cortex and frontal cortex, separated by several inches in the cerebral cortex, can coordinate activity.

"If you are reading something, language areas oscillate in theta frequency allowing high-gamma-related neural activity in individual neurons to transmit information," said Knight. "When you stop reading and begin to type, theta rhythms oscillate in motor structures, allowing you to plan and execute your motor response by way of high gamma. Simple, but effective."

The findings are reported in the Sept. 15 issue of Science.

Tuning in high-frequency brain waves

The researchers found that when people are asked to do a simple task, such as listening to a list of words, the slow, theta oscillations in the hearing area of the brain become coupled with the fast, high-gamma oscillations in the same area. When two different brain areas then oscillate together at the same theta frequency and phase, it becomes much easier for these regions to tune in the high-gamma oscillations that transfer information between them.

Absolutely ignore him when he makes you uncomfortable. Don't speak to him, don't make eye contact; act like he isn't even in the room.

You need therapy along with the medication. Your doctor should help you understand and overcome what you are seeing or being disturbed by; if he doesn't, find someone who will!

This is what I would add to the above: being strong means knowing when to give way. Nothing has to ever be forced, either out or in; it isn't natural.
Yes - be like a rock and the waters of change will carve you out.

Welcome to Dreams! / Re: Reality Checking..
August 22, 2006, 23:23:34
I never had much luck with the reality check. What I do instead is to try to manipulate reality -- fly, pass through a wall, move objects, make people disappear, etc. Then when I'm dreaming, if I'm able to do those things, I recognize the fact that I'm not awake. Honestly though, no single technique really worked reliably for me.

Relax into the buzzing sensation as much as you can. Try to limit or cease your mental commentary on what is happening, while absorbing every aspect of the experience. When you start thinking about F1 (the physical), you'll be pulled back to it, so stay focused on the astral.

You'd be dead, that much is for certain.

Welcome to Dreams! / Re: reading while dreaming

I get both kinds. Sometimes the lettering is just a bunch of abstract shapes, numbers, or random letters. In other dreams I can read fine.

Last night I was reading a sports page from the newspaper. For some reason I couldn't make out the year, but I could read the date -- December 12th. Navy beat Army.

I wondered about you during your absense. It's good to have you back.  8-)
