I strongly agree with you in that most scientists are Strongly Prejudiced against OBEs/NDEs. The few scientists that do experiment in this field are largely ignored by 'mainstream' science. Evidence in support of OBEs is usually ignored as well.

Basically from everything that I have experienced, read and heard about projection there is NO WAY that taking deep breaths will force the astral/ethereal body out of the physical body. Any physical action during a projection attempt is Highly Likely to abort/end that attempt. [V]
So taking repeated deep breaths is totally Counter-Productive to the OBE induction attempt. Even Indian yogis (and others) who can deliberately project while still awake practice breathing Before the projection, Not During the Projection. [^]

It is Possible that the scourges of War and Violence continue to plague beings on the Astral and Ethereal planes. Though this possibility May exist those problems are far from certainties. Perhaps God/gods/higher beings banish major conflicts in those realms. [?]
Anyways it is tempting to believe that there is no War on the higher planes. []

If you like AS then you should also like Astral Pulse. The two websites are roughly comparable in terms of number and quality of posts. The only thing that Astral Pulse lacks IMHO is a journals section, although many members do report their projection experiences in the forums. [8D]

Woodychair here are perhaps two reasons for what happened to you.
Maybe you did actually project inside of a large machine (that physically exists somewhere on Earth). Something like a huge turbine or generator. [?]
Or maybe you projected to an unfamilar location which you mispercived as being inside a huge machine. Minor misperceptions during OBEs are Very common. Occasionally a projector is totally unable to perceive anything around them. [?]

Once out of body then movement is entirely a mental exercise. Just stay relaxed and don't get excited and movement will be natural.

That is the idea/theory behind the practice of the magickal circle. The magick circle is infused with magick energy by the magician, who then remains inside the circle during the performance of a spell to keep unwanted spirits out.
For the religiously minded person a magickal ritual may not be accepted. However, one strong spell that uses names of God and divine power for protection is the "Lesser Banishing Ritual of the Pentagram".

Sometimes just one paranormal or unusual event will open a door to an entire new universe. To your credit, beav31is, your experiments with TK created that door and you seized the opportunity to go through it.
Many people choose to ignore the door when it appears to them (via lucid dream or accidental OBE or whatever). This refusal to accept the reality of the larger universes can result in permanent skepticism.
It's important to at last consider the validity of other peoples' reports. Even if the majority of people are lying or are hallucinating that still leaves hundreds or thousands of factual True experiences.

Tyler, your situation actually sounds more like Obsession than Possession. Obsession is being constantly surrounded and influenced by discarnate spirits. The obsessing entites draw your attention strongly to a special activity or interest. Yet obsessing spirits do not enter a physical body as they do in possession.
In any event I suggest burning sage incense and tryoing the Lesser banishing Ritual of the Pentagram. Either that or consult a psychic and clairvoyant.

It IS possible to project out of body from a lucid dream. Many people have done it. I have managed to project from a lucid dream several times. The lucid dream state of consciousness may well be the perfect pre-projection state (total physical relaxation and sleep paralysis with clear consciousness).
It does require effort to project OBE out of a lucid dream because it does not happen every time. Just a week ago I had 2 LDs in one night. Both LDs were quickly turned into flying LDs. But I never made an effort to project.

Terry B's description of the 'roll over' method (also called 'roll out') is correct and covers the most important points. Basically you just Mentally roll over and out of the physical body. This is a mental activity. There is NO physical movement (which will ruin the experience.)
The best mental state pre-projection for me is hypnagogic (= total physical relaxation), vibrations and sleep paralysis. Vibrations and SP are helpful but not absolutely necessary.

Sightings of the spirit/soul/consciousness of a Living person who is out of their physical body are called Doppleganger sightings. Doppleganger is a German word. (Not sure what it means. Probably 'misty person' or something like that.)
BTW there were several stories of doppleganger sightings in the tv show 'Beyond Belief, Fact or Fiction'. One story was about the doppleganger of a (sick) boy who physically fed cookies to a hungry wolf And lay in bed with fever At the Same Time !

It is usually helpful to remember Einstein's concept of a 4 dimensional space-time continuum. In his famoue E=MC2 (E equals M C squared) equation Einstein showed that under the right circumstances Mass Equals Energy. So perhaps the 4th dimension is Energy (and not Time).
SuperString Theory scientists have theorized that there are 10 or 11 or 12 dimensions. The numbers vary depending on the theory.  Six of those dimensions are tiny Micro dimensions and the other 4 or 5 or 6 are large Macro Dimensions.

2 or 3 weeks ago parapsychologist Charles Tart was a guest on the Coast To Coast AM radio show with George Noorey.
Tart talked about a lab experiment he ran years earlier. That lab experiment was about people who attempted to have OBEs in a controlled setting. Tart placed a card with a 4 digit number on top of an eight foot tall cabinet. He asked each person to read the number on that card if/when that person projected. According to Tart one person did project And successfully read the correct number on that card. The odds of that happening by pure chance are 10,000 to 1 !!   []

For a change of pace I sometimes put on nature sounds instead of music. Sounds of rain or the ocean are especially relaxing. Solo (native American) drumming can also relax.

Reading D Scott Rogo's 'Leaving The Body' is definately worthwhile. Rogo discusses 10 or 11 different techniques for leaving the body. He goes into great detail and devotes an entire chapter to each technique.

There are many different techniques for removing and combating negative entities to be found on the Psychic Defense Forum. Most of those techniques are discussed and debated in depth on that forum.

Tunnels are mentioned rather frequently by people who have had OBEs. As you may be aware tunnels are mentioned most often by people who have had Near Death Experiences. However, people who have OBEs also report tunnels as well.
Most often though people who OBE report portals or gates that usually go to another location or another dimension/plane.
My own belief is that tunnels and portals are both Stargates (variously called wormholes, Kerr Tunnels or Einstein-Rosen Bridges). These stargates connect different locations throughout our 4 dminesional space-time continuum and also lead to other, alternate universes. []

I have been fortunate to have experienced many lucid dreams. On several occasions I have projected out of body from a lucid dream. In my experience the best way to project is to first begin flying (or floating) in the lucid dream. Then practice a mental exercise of shifting consciousness out of body. It works but it's a tricky method which I only succeed in using on a few occasions. [?]

The roll out should work at least 25 % to 50 % of the time when the right conditions are achieved. I just need to be lucky enough to wake up in those conditions (vibrations, total relaxation and maybe sleep paralysis). (Creating those conditions from meditation is difficult for me[?])

Cases of a (physical) person seeing someone who is out of body have been reported many times. Robert Monroe mentioned at least one occurance in his book 'Journeys Out of The Body'.
So, though it is not a common occurance, it does happen now and then. Not surprisingly most people who see astral projectors are family members or close friends. A close personal bond helps them see a person who is otherwise invisible to other people.

Most metaphysical activities (projection, meditation, energy control, etc) Are worth the effort though. They exist to be done for the benefit of the person doing them (not to impress others). []

The idea of talking to a ghost and forcing it to obey verbal commands is much more effective than most people realize. This is because most ghosts are Not trying to harm people (although ghosts may become difficult and unruly at times) and so these ghosts really Are open to verbal communication.
Remember that exorcism, which is usually a last resort, is actually a series of strong Verbal commands, using authority of God and/or Jesus, to a spirit to stop a haunting and to depart that location.
