There are some good Baptists around who haven't checked their brains in at the front door!

Rooj,

I appreciate your responses to Jeehad.  It's easy to get lost in all of the volumes of material that he posts to try to prove his point.  You did a good job of sorting through it.  But I think you are wasting your time on him.    I learned a long time ago that there is no dialog with him.  It's all monologue.  He is a fanatic.  He convinces us only of his blindness to anything beyond his own little world.

Isn't fear a lousy thing?

We all have our fears.  They come in all sizes and shapes, depending IMHO on where we are unwilling to trust Life (or whatever you call the Higher Power) to move us on safely.

I try not to judge anyone's fears.  Mine sometimes bite me!

I don't know Hannah B, but I understand that she comes from a country that has been brutalized by any number of the aggressors in past decades -- like Nazis and Commies and power hungry nationalists.  That damages the national psyche big time.  It gives you a certain view of the world that is different than if you grew up in the USA.  It makes you nervous of any nation that has the power to enslave you once again.  Hannah, I'd just say beware of your Russian sources for news (like the US bombing Iran).  Russians and Americans have been fighting propaganda wars for a long time.  They both can be full of crap instead of truth.

I understand the fear of Big Brother that many of us have in the US.  Since 9/11 paranoia has gotten worse for a lot of folks.  I personally think that even though the government is collecting a lot of info, that it's not going to affect the life of the average person.  If you have links to terrorists, maybe you should watch out.  The gov. has been collecting info on us for years.  I learned that I was monitored for awhile because I was (gasp gasp) a campaign coordinator for George McGovern on a campus in 1972.  Later we got in trouble again because we staged a protest against "Tricky willy" who was speaking at the commencement at our university shortly before he resigned.  But we lived through it.  Life has been good.

I've lived in places where I basically felt safe (UK and US) and places where I didn't feel secure from day to day (Bolivia), but personally I have grown a lot by facing my fears head on and trusting the Higher Power to lead me on to bigger and better things.  There is definitely something to having a positive attitude and believing in the law of attraction.

I salute Hannah B for getting on the plane and facing the aggressors!  I salute Mustardseed for his desire to get on the boat and head out to sea!   I salute anyone of you who are willing to get out of the comfort zone and move on to bigger and better things.  You will be rewarded.

And now that I've finished my Scotch and my rant, I'm going to bed.   Nos da!  DH

As a summary, here are the ten attributes that best describe this new kind of child, the Indigo Child

    * They come into the world with a feeling of royalty (and often act like it)
    * They have a feeling of "deserving to be here," and are surprised when others don't share that.
    * Self-worth is not a big issue. They often tell the parents "who they are."
    * They have difficulty with absolute authority (authority without explanation or choice).
    * They simply will not do certain things; for example, waiting in line is difficult for them.
    * They get frustrated with systems that are ritually oriented and don't require creative thought.
    * They often see better ways of doing things, both at home and in school, which makes them seem like "system busters" (nonconforming to any system).
    * They seem antisocial unless they are with their own kind. If there are no others of like consciousness around them, they often turn inward, feeling like no other human understands them. School is often extremely difficult for them socially.
    * They will not respond to "guilt" discipline ("Wait till your father gets home and finds out what you did").
    * They are not shy in letting you know what they need.

My wife reminded me that we used to call them spoiled brats!   :-D

I've read the majority of Casteneda and have gotten a good bit out of it. The first few are really fun to read. But I was always sceptical of whether Don Juan really existed and doubted the idea that he transformed into pure energy. Fun books though.
It would be great to have those links...

Yeah, they are fun to read.  Even though I, too, was skeptical about a real Don Juan, it was his first book that stated getting me interested in areas of spirituality I never knew existed.  Jeez, that was a long time ago.  I'm starting to feel a little geezerish.   :-D

Ditto on the links......

Hi Petal!

Welcome to the forums.  This is a great place to visit with some serious seekers.  Hope it all helps.  DH   :-)

Fortunately the message transcends the messenger.  In the Bible, Paul says that fallible humans are like "cracked pots that sill hold valuable treasure."  Indeed, many of the messengers are crack pots!  DH   :-D

One very wise holy man said, "Don't cast your pearls before swine."

In other words, don't waste your time with those who don't understand, especially those who don't want to understand.  This is not being cruel.  It's just a fact of life that people are on different spiritual journeys.  Some are ready to hear and some aren't.  Don't be judgmental.  We have all been there. There will be a time when skeptics are open to truth.  In the meantime, just share with those whom you perceive to be ready NOW.  DH

The sad irony is now we have the Christian religion founded by the Romans in around 300ad, with its patriarchal / male dominant views promoting women being subordinate and subservient to men whilst trying to convince people that this is "God's will" and sticking the teachings of Jesus in the middle of it as justification.

You are right.  What Jesus seems to have preached is much different than the Roman version that came out later.

Constantine was responsible for squashing all challengers to the "orthodox" theology of Athanasius.  This squashing included the death of many versions of Christianity, which included several very creative theologies of the gnostics and various Jewish-Christian sects.  However, most of these groups, including the majority of gnostics, were still patriarchal.

What's interesting to me is that there is some evidence that the earliest version of Christianity in Britain was more inclusive in leadership (female as well as male leadership) and was grounded very much in the goodness of creation and human nature.  All of this changed after the Romans consolidated their power and influence in Britain.  The Roman pattern changed everything -- from leadership (a move to solely patriarchal) to theology (Augustine's doctrine of original sin and corruption of creation replaced the Celtic idea of innate goodness in people and creation) to even architecture (Roman rectangular replaced the Celtic circle).

It makes you wonder who first took the message of Jesus to Britain.  Whoever it was seems to have been more in tune with the Jesus of the Bible.  Despite the patriarchal bias of those who put the Bible together,  we still discover the Jesus who treated women as first-class humans along with the men.  This message also seems to have struck a chord with the Druidic roots of Celtic spirituality, which was more egalitarian.

Lucky you! Several people have outrightly told me that what I believe in is a load of rubbish. I wish they'd keep it to themselves, really. I think it's quite rude to tell someone that what they believe in is a load of crap.
I just wish some people would tone down their attitudes a bit. It can be tiresome.

Sounds like it's time to expand your circle of acquaintances and friends!  I too have had to deal with my share of skeptics.  When they pop up I just let them say their dribble and go on their merry way.  Life's too short to let the idiots get you down.  Be who you are and be happy.  You owe it to yourself.   :-)

I also totally agree Mydral.
But there's one thing worth thinking about....
The laws of a country are mostly based on religious laws to begin with.
This is why we often see big discrepancies between the laws of western countries and those of middle-eastern countries.

The United States is not a "Christian country", but those who say that there is no Judeo/Christian influence on those Europeans who first settled there and set up their governments are ignorant of history.  Their beliefs first shaped the whole American sense of justice and ethics.  DH

There's a possibility that a teacher or class could help speed up the process, but you also do it on your own. What I've found is that once you get the information, you have to put it into practice. There is more than enough free information on the internet alone to enable a person to be able to project on their own.
I remember when I would read and read and read, but not get anywhere, so I was constantly on the search for "the book" that would have the secret information I needed to project. After a while I realised I had more than enough info to go on, I just wasn't putting in the dilligence, time, and practice it takes.

This has been my experience as well.  There are only a handful of truly life-changing ideas that pop up from generation to generation and culture to culture.

If we took one great idea and worked with it for weeks or months (depending on what it is and where we are in our development), we would find spiritual growth by leaps and bounds.  This is something I learned from Joel S. Goldsmith, one of the great mystics and spiritual pioneers of of the 20th century.

It does take diligence and self-discipline -- something I'm only average at accomplishing -- but when I have, the rewards have been life-changing.

Why is it that if a person wants to learn about Spirituality/Meditation/Yoga..... that they have to be willing to spend hundreds of dollars to find out?
I find these organizations in my local area and they all have outrageous fee's attached to them.  I mean really, is that what it is all about?  It just seems so far from the essence of what it is supposed to be about.  It borders on exploitation IMHO.  It is hard for me to see it as anything more than profiting on the hope and dreams of people.
Am I the only one who feels this way?

As far as the money goes, greed is a basic human malfunction.  Certainly someone who makes a living from teaching should be compensated.  But going beyond what is fair is, unfortunately, common whether it's a New Age guru and his workshops or a fundamentalist Christian preacher peddling books and "anointed hankies for healing."

IMHO, at the center of the Universe is Love -- a love that bids us to give away to bless others.  It's a pretty good deal actually, because whatever we give away comes back at some point to bless us, too.

Many spiritual masters have taught this.  Jesus is one great example: "If you give, you will receive. Your gift will return to you in full measure, pressed down, shaken together to make room for more, and running over. Whatever measure you use in giving—large or small—it will be used to measure what is given back to you" (Luke 6:38).

Later he sent out his disciples to teach about the kingdom of God and manifest it through healing, and his instructions in Matthew 10:8 were, "Freely you have received -- freely give."

Beware of those who would deny you truth simply because you can't pay.  They don't care about you, which would be the case if they were motivated by Divine Love.  They only care about themselves.

Okay, I'm officially off of my soapbox!   The subject of greedy human leeches masking as spiritual advisers get my blood boiling!   :x   I guess it's time to chill...........  8-)

Good post Malganis.  It pretty much nails the free will business.

We may have good intentions to bless people, but sometimes people don't want our blessings.

One time a group of us were praying for a woman to be healed of cancer.  We felt quite confident about it, because this group of intercessors had prayed for others with great success.  But we hadn't asked the woman for permission to pray for her healing, and when she found out about it, she said:  "Please stop it.  I have no doubt that your prayers will work, but I don't want them.  I want to die."

What can you say?  We stopped, as did others who wanted her to be restored to health -- and she died in peace.

SKIPPY,

I think that what Principle is saying to you is right on, too.  You have to be yourself.  What you project to others will attract them or repell them or go unnoticed.  So be intentional about what you project.  The whole life and power of the Universe lives in you, and to the degree that you can get in touch with It and draw from It's in life, you will project that confidence and vitality to others.  There are any number of good books and teaching CD's that can help you learn how to do that, and a lot of them have been mentioned on this web site.

I've used this book to help others learn how to touch the power within:

Blessing to you on your journey,  DH  :-)

Out of curiosity: I am atheist, but must I have faith in something beyond myself in order to do any metaphysical workings?
Any help would be appreciated.

All you need is faith in yourself and your ability to let the Universe manifest its blessings through you.

Also, you have my healing prayers for your depression.  DH  :-)

Also, If what you want violates the freewill of someone else, it likely won't manifest.

I am trying to work it out so my wife can post a location chart fixing my position and posts on a Google earth chart. What do you think. By all means try something. Would love to have a visit. I am pretty scared but nevertheless the glove is cast no way out now. Ha

Hey, the chart would be a nice touch if you all can work it out. You have my prayers. DH

TVOS,

I have been successful but not as much as I would like.  I do better in the day hours rather the night (seems like I'm too tired and just go on off to sleep), and lately I just haven't much time during the day to spend on it.  Sometimes during a longer lunch hour.  How about you?

I also agree with you that you pretty much project into whatever you expect.  If you expect demons hassling you, you'll  get demons hassling you.  If you expect peace and sunshine, you'll get peace and sunshine.  I've never had enounters that seemed dangerous or foreboding.  Maybe I sound, just to spice things up!   :-D   DH

In your conversations, what did you learn most from these spiritual experiences? Did this lead you to research out of body experiences?
Tvos

Thirty-plus years ago, I had my first OBE -- by accident -- while I was taking a nap.  I knew the experience was real, but attempts to reproduce the projection failed so many times that I quit trying and moved on to other things.  A few years later, I went on to work as a minister in a Christian denomination, and as a college prof, but my interest in the "larger picture" of spirituality never left me.  Some in my denomination thought that anything paranormal was delusional at best and "of the devil" at worst.  I knew that my experience wasn't delusional and seemed to be more "heavenly" than satanic.

My interest peaked again when I was a hospital chaplain and a couple of folks shared about NDE's they had where they had gone into cardiac arrest and left the physical body for a short time.  They both brought the subject up, but it was like, "Please don't think I'm crazy, but I have to tell someone about this!"  Since that time I have been able to expand my own horizons regarding OBE and occasionally have had opportunities to talk with others about it in clinical settings -- but always after THEY brought up the subject.  Chaplains are supposed to listen as much as run their mouths anyway!  Most of the time people were relieved to be able to talk about their experiences and process them without fear of being judged.

Thanks for asking.  And by the way, you have a cool web site.  DH
