Heres a way to remember an almost endless list .
First imagine the 2 first things on the list , pair them togheather in some odd way and distort them (like realy enlarge small things use imagination ) Now pair them togheater in a odd way. (if i was gonna remember ,fish and siggaretes id imagine a Big fish smoking)
Next take the second and the third thing on the list and do the same ,then nr 3 and nr 4 and so on .
Tip : If something you wanna remember for days or while new run the list trough your head once or twise 10 min after . Use porn ,funny situations ,whatever honks your horn to make it more interesting rembering . When recalling ussually begin with the first or last item . If you cant remember them search for one of the others (if you make one extra funny/nasty picture in the middle (of a long list) you can use it as a bookmark as it would pop right up when you try and remember the list and think about such a picture.
To sum it up , after getting the hang of it you will realise its just getting to much to forget rather than to much to remember!
Off course not everthing is worth making lists off (like getting ice cubes).Less foolproof but might help.
with icecubes (I know no one expects to forget that or take a tinkle for that matter) imagine you going getting the cubes and imagine what it will feels like when you succseed in this task (like cold)
When leaving the kitchen or any place you "might" have forgotten something search for such pictures with feeling .Also do this after a distraction (phonerings ,unjust flamming from your father etc.). The point is after a while if you catch yourself forgetting ,you just will remember things better ,since you will automaticly perform this task ,without conciesly doing this.
