Hi faxing, welcome to the forum!
I will start of by telling you to keep trying, I have heard that it takes months possibly years to have a conscious out of body experience. Many people believe that your second body is slightly out of sync every night while you sleep, so as you stated that key is letting the body fall asleep while the mind stays awake. This is what's commonly called sleep paralysis. There is partial and full paralysis and you will want to achieve full.
I think that some key things to remember and try should be the following:
1) Keep you eyes and body perfectly still.
2) You may need to deepen the paralysis in your case. Try some deep breathing techniques. You can also trick the body into thinking your body is in full paralysis by slightly twitching each muscle in the body.
3) Try not to move unless you know you're in full paralysis or you will wake up, the vibrations indicate that your are in the transitory stage. Watch for full paralysis phenomenons such as seeing through your eyelids.
4) Another technique that has worked for me is to shift all of my focus away from my body.
Hope this helps
Best Regards
David
