Welcome to Out of Body Experiences! / Re: Newbe!
March 17, 2009, 20:55:16
Hi faxing, welcome to the forum!

I will start of by telling you to keep trying, I have heard that it takes months possibly years to have a conscious out of body experience. Many people believe that your second body is slightly out of sync every night while you sleep, so as you stated that key is letting the body fall asleep while the mind stays awake. This is what's commonly called sleep paralysis. There is partial and full paralysis and you will want to achieve full.

I think that some key things to remember and try should be the following:

1) Keep you eyes and body perfectly still.
2) You may need to deepen the paralysis in your case. Try some deep breathing techniques. You can also trick the body into thinking your body is in full paralysis by slightly twitching each muscle in the body.
3) Try not to move unless you know you're in full paralysis or you will wake up, the vibrations indicate that your are in the transitory stage. Watch for full paralysis phenomenons such as seeing through your eyelids.
4) Another technique that has worked for me is to shift all of my focus away from my body.

Hope this helps

Best Regards

David

I posted this to my blog and I figured that it may be inspiring to others on here, so I am posting it here too.

Last night I got into bed around 11:00 PM. I read a chapter of Monroe's book "Journeys out of the Body", laid down and relaxed, put on my head phones and started listening to the Tibetan Chakra Meditation tracks. I started repeating the mantra "I am now out of body" in my head and fell asleep after about five iterations. I woke up at about 6:00 AM and noticed that the headphones had fallen off at some point during the night. I quickly fell back to sleep while running the same mantra through my head.

I woke up at 7:50 AM and noticed that my daughter was in the bed with me and my wife. I was doubtful that I would be able pull off an OBE because she moves around a lot. I decided to give it a try anyway so I closed my eyes and began the same mantra, "I am now out of body" over and over while I tried not to move. Suddenly I began to feel myself spinning at a rapid rate on an axis that ran through my head and out the bottom of my feet. Ten seconds later light vibrations hit me and I instinctively just relaxed more and told myself "enjoy the ride". The vibrations then got more intense and seemed to last about 2 minutes and then faded.

The vibrations completely disappeared and I noticed that I was floating in blackness with partial awareness. I felt like I was in a half dream state. I began running the words "clarity and awareness now" over and over and after about 5 iterations I actually started saying it out loud. I continued to say this and I could hear myself very clearly asking for clarity and awareness and thought I was going to wake up my wife and daughter. Suddenly the blackness slowly started fading and I actually felt my analytical mind attach to my state of consciousness and I am standing in a field and in front of me was a huge bright tree. Everything was so vivid and clear I felt the urge to fly and explore. I flew higher and higher and I began to think about the ocean and the landscape turned into ocean. I was soaring and I remembered that in life I am scared of heights, so I told myself to go higher and higher so that I could face my fear. I arrived at what I perceived as to be 5000 feet over the water and I felt some fear surge though me, but I was able to push it away and climb higher.

While I was flying and enjoying complete freedom I remembered that I told my friend from work that I would visit him next time I was out of body. He is skeptical and I wanted to give him some validation. I started imagining his face but I must not have asked the universe right because I asked to see him over and over and nothing but a very slight change in speed occurred.

I lost interest and reduced altitude and was very close to the surface of the water. The ocean then morphed into a wide river and I continued to skim across it about a foot from the surface. I heard a voice that said I had not experienced everything and then suddenly felt myself begin to go under the water. I wasn't ready and clearly noticed a change in awareness.

I woke, sat up and looked at the alarm clock and noticed that it displayed 9 AM. The first thing that entered my mind was that I needed to write down what had happened. Our bedroom is upstairs and my laptop is downstairs so I got out of bed and headed towards my laptop. I noticed that while walking down the hall that leads to the the stairs that everything was reversed. When I got to the stairs they were not right either. They looked like my stairs, but the distance that each step extended was inconsistent. Some extended about 5 inches out and others one foot. I "walked" down stairs and when I got there I noticed that the TV was gone and everything was packed up in boxes. My wife came down behind me and I felt a sense of fear come over me as if I had forgotten that we had packed and were in the process of moving. I began to panic because the events were so real and I felt as though I was losing my mind. Once again I felt a change in my awareness.

I woke up again. I noticed that the right side of my face was not working. I could not see out of my right eye. The right side of my head was literally inside of the pillow. I got up and looked in the mirror and blood was running down my moustache. The blood was dried to the hairs. I looked at my face in the mirror for about a minute in confusion and tried to understand where this blood had come from. I felt another change in my awareness.

I woke up and looked at the clock and it said 8:01 AM. I immediately got out of bed and headed for my laptop to write this entry. While I was walking down the stairs I was seriously asking myself if waking life was real or if I was out of body.

In conclusion I don't recall exiting my body this time, the move from physical to nonphysical seemed more like a shift of awareness. Perhaps the intense spinning threw me a distance from my body. I have no idea. It seems that I started out in a half conscious out of body state and then became fully conscious. I then moved into a lucid dream state awareness and had a false awakening. I then had another out of body experience and another false awakening. Finally I moved back to an out of body awareness one final time and then woke up for real. I am definitely back on track.

One last thing that's worth noting is that I was using my Performer 2400 chi generator. I had it set at a lucid dream frequency of 0.5 HZ with the trend set to the "The Gateway Affirmation" which goes like:

QuoteI am more than my physical body. Because I am more than physical matter, I can perceive that which is greater than the physical world. Therefore, I deeply desire to Expand, to Experience; to Know, to Understand; to Control, to Use such greater energies and energy systems as may be beneficial and constructive to me and to those who follow me. Also, I deeply desire the help and cooperation, the assistance, the understanding of those individuals whose wisdom, development and experience are equal or greater than my own. I ask their guidance and protection from any influence or any source that might provide me with less than my stated desires.

Quotei feel this is an important part of my spiritual progress and look at it in this way, not something to fool around with.

Yes, same here. I actually think that eventually all humans will Astral Project and that people will be out of the physical more than in the physical. I like to think of us as pioneers. (and for spark, this is just my opinion, this may or may not ever happen or be true)

Keep it up and please continue to share with us your results.

To me, statements like ""we make our own truths" are really big mistakes." are really big mistakes. Who could know that either? We call this an endless regression.

You keep stating why others opinions are flawed by stating another opinion. Everyone will have their own opinion here, which is the beauty of it all.

Additionally, who is locked into a belief system? Seems that you may be locked into one yourself so be careful.

I will bring this back into focus now as it seems like this thread has gotten off track. The original question was:

QuoteAre there are any specific planes in the astral that are just "thought sensitive" and then some that are just "there"? Like ones that you would just experience without it being so sensitive to thought?

I mentioned above that William Buhlman's book Adventures Beyond the Body is a great place to learn about such things.

I will use the 5% rule that spark created. Now if spark had actually read this book he would know that the book is in the 5% as defined by spark (at least that's my opinion). I am sure it's possible that his seemingly undistorted statements were actually based on highly distorted observations (meaning his mind (possibly the universe) is presenting things to him in a fashion that can be understood by him).

William Buhlman's book as well as books written by Robert Monroe and Robert Bruce have become so popular and valueable because of the fact that these authors attempt to "tell it like it is". They recognize the extent to which their minds try to interpret the experiences and force them into familiar patterns (as spark explained above). The authors are however seeing things in the astral world that are very hard to translate so there will always be interpretation.

Let's take this a step further and define what humans consider reality in waking life and compare that to the experiments that are taking place at the Monroe Institute or by William Buhlman's students. We consider things to be "real" in waking life because our observations are well-substantiated. The exact same thing must hold true for the astral plane if we are to make comparisons, and let's face it, the only comparison we have is waking life. Members of the Monroe Institute are able to observe "and share" the same experiences over and over again. Their observations agree with each other and have become well-substantiated. They may not be seeing the absolute truth but if we are using the same methods of observation as we do in waking life then they can't be dismissed of ignored unless you want to just dismiss or ignore waking life too (which some do!).

There are two places that information about the truth can be obtained, which would be personal experience and then the personal experience of others. I think we all agree that both are interpretations and subjective.

Based on the that fact that both sources are interpretations and nobody really knows what the truth is, how would you come a 5%? To say that you believe that only 5% is the truth would indicate that you know what the truth is and you have therefor made a measurement to how much is true.

I think people find there own truth and the the path is never the same for each person. Sure, you should use an objective mind, but it's also kinda counter productive to be a huge skeptic of everything. Keep an open mind and explore and share.

#181
There is much documented info on this subject in William Buhlman's book Adventures Beyond the Body.
#182
Notice I used the words "Maybe" and "I think" rather than "It is so" or "I know". Sure, you can construe things to be anything you want them to be.

I am just curious as to what your ultimate goal is. My ultimate goal is to eventually get the entire earth experiencing OBEs at will. I know it will not happen in my lifetime but the spark has to start somewhere.

I like people like Robert Monroe who are actually trying to bring forth change in our world by getting everyone involved whether it be advanced or beginner.

Yeah, I have been at this for the last 3 months. I have never had any issues with exiting, my issue is getting into the trance, I have many distractions and a 3 year old :).

There are several exit techniques including imagining yourself become lighter or heavier and then twisting out. You can also image yourself rolling out (which has worked for me several times). I always imagine these things first person.

Welcome spark,

Maybe waking life is all in your head too :). I think OBE state is just a shift of awareness away from the physical. Meaning OBE and Waking life = Same thing. You.

Hi tr0798,

Another suggestion is to home in on an ident which would be a place or someone's name. Then let the universe take you there, wherever that might be.

Whatisreal,

Welcome to the forum.

It seems to me that maybe your reason for astral projection is for sex. IMHO this seems like a waste of a potentially enlightening experience. Sex is around every corner in waking physical life and seeking it in the astral planes would be like getting a PH.D in physics and then working at McDonald's flipping burgers.

I would recommend that you get sex in the physical and then use astral projection to gather profound knowledge and to grow spiritually.

Monroe speaks of this several times in all of his books, people who have died and are in a perpetual state of trying to get laid, never realizing that sex is a physical thing that humans do and has no feeling or meaning in the spiritual realm.

I am sure that there are others here that disagree and that's fine. I just thought I would share my point of view as I see this topic come up a lot.

transformerman,

Welcome to the forum. You will most likely want to refrain from ALL CAPS. It's considered rude on the internet. :)

Regarding astral projection at will, it is absolutely possible to learn how to do it. What happens normally when you get to the vibrations?

You may want to try: Hemi-Sync Support for Journeys Out of the Body

http://www.monroeinstitute.com/store/product.php?productid=1631

This has the beats that puts you mind into the relaxed state and there is no talking except on the very first track which is designed to wake you up on purpose and remind you of your goal.

They work, for me.

I suggest that you buy or rent from the library a couple of Robert Monroe's book to get information about Hemi-Sync and then try for yourself.

It took me about 1 week if I remember right. :). This is from the time I learned that astral projection exists until I floated out of my body.

Hi Jetlee,

I started trying to project from scratch about 2 -3 months ago. First and foremost you must understand that this takes time and practice.

Here are some good things to remember. Try early in the morning rather than at night when you go to bed. When trying lay completely still and do not move at all. Keep your eyes still. When you feel the urge to rollover do not roll over. Focus your mind on any thing and remain focused on it. Any time that your mind wonders from what you are focused on do not get caught up in it, just return your focus to what you are focusing on before your mind wondered. Run a box fan or something that will create ambience.

During the day write and read about astral projection. Continually verbally or mentally repeat mantras in the present tense. For example: "I am out of my body", "I am more than my physical body", "I am travelling outside my body".

Be patient and keep at it. You will over time see success.

Hope this helps

Hi Jetlee,

Do you mean like a tutorial? Try www.saltcube.com. You can also listen to binaural beats such as Hemi-Sync or Brainsnyc which will help to relax you.

Hi oneironaught,

Are you trying to get into focus 10 when you first lay down at night? You may want to attempt these techniques after several sleep cycles. I usually go to bed at 9:30 PM and then wake up at 4 AM automatically at which time I try projection techniques.

One theory is that at 4 - 5 AM your serotonin and melotonin is balanced and allows you to fall into sleep and stay alert. Your muscles are also deeply relaxed at this time of morning. Another good time would be around 12 - 2 PM.

Remember while attempting to project to stay completely still, including your eyes which is very important. Relax your eyes and do not move them.

Also get plenty of sunlight and exercise during the day which helps to get your body in balance.

Hope this helps

Hi Celest,

I would consider giving whatever you are doing at least 30 days before moving on to the next method. I have had success with Hemi-Sync and with nothing at all. I think the main thing is to keep your focus on something intently until your body falls asleep.

I have a friend that I have been talking to for over 10 years who mentioned astral projection on and off for the entire length of the friendship. I don't know why, but for some reason 2 months ago and listened and decided to give it a try rather than just dismissing it.

I tried it, it worked, it blew my mind and I am now hooked for life. Not only did my life open up to the world of astral projection, but I am now involved in Reiki healing and Buddhist study and meditation.

It's best to try to eliminate all bad thoughts all the time, but like you mention, that's humanly impossible. The key is the intention behind it and not dwelling on negative.

I am sure others will chime in and have other suggestions as well.

Regarding the technique you are using, it's a good one. I read that book as well and learned a lot form it.

Congrats, that's a very cool experience you had.

Perhaps you were harboring some negative thoughts that you were unaware of and they manifested themselves as the house headed demon. I would make sure that you eliminate all bad thoughts and this may possibly eliminate the horse man.
#199
That's interesting.

Based on everything I have studied about this subject, you actually project every night but you just don't remember. My guess would be that your sister's comment "you slept in my room last night didn't you shanny" brought the memory of this shift in awareness into your waking consciousness. That's why you read people on here telling others to consciously state that you will remember your experiences when leaving an OBE.

You may remember a regular dream in the same way only when you remember it, you realize that your awareness in the dream was not at the same level as your dream about your sister. It's all about awareness.
