For my part... I enjoy Beth's posts. I'm actually quite interested in how Mustardseed would rather have things defined... it seems there is some kind of stigma attached to trying to pin things down with words, personally, I don't believe there is anything in this universe which is beyond words, words are how we communicate ideas, ideas are how we perceive this universe. Therefore words should be able to describe pretty much anything. If it doesn't, then more words need to be made.

The point Beth made was that your ideas seem to fit into the "box category" of Pantheism, how is this a negative thing? Please, explain how your views are different from this category, that doesn't make your views any less valid, being defined does not serve as a limitation, because those definitions can be altered.

Whoo, me too! Rock on!

The greeks represented her in two ways, as either Strife-Eris, the battle goddess who destroyed and crushed stuff, and the Eris version which most Discordians associate with more- who gets you off  your behind to do stuff. Personally, I see Eris manifested in both these things, but the Greeks feared her far more than they revered her, they didn't like her

Oooh, I haven't, I'll have to start watching them. I know Eris was in Xena... pretty hot too

Welcome to Dreams! / Trucks
April 28, 2006, 17:57:42
I'd personally interpret that in one of two ways.

1) The second truck represents a better self, but you feel afraid of it in some way, but know that you must attain this better self somehow, despite the risks/danger to your current self/life.

2) The second truck could also represent a relationship which you know could be dangerous or wrong for you, but you desire to keep with it or start it regardless, both dreams seem to have an element of this danger about them, so on some level I'd say you fear it, but the inevitability of it implies that you also strongly desire it. Whatever it is.

Or I could just be making stuff up :P

Recently I have been reading into this religion, becoming interested in it and I believe I may even take it on as my Official Faith, yup, no more agnosticism for me, Hail Eris!

The original Discordian Holy Book is the Principia Discordia, which is, I believe, KopyLeft, and therefore available for free right here http://www.ology.org/principia/body.html

I've found Discordianism philosophy very interesting, and on request I can suggest a few fora which can provide a look into the minds of other Discordians (warning, this may not be for the faint of heart) or even a long essay I wrote entitled an Introduction to Discordianism, which I decided not to spam you all with here.

I was just interested in what the opinions of others here would be of this fringe religion disguised as a joke disguised as a religion. So... yeah... discuss!

I think of it like this, on the days I think there might be a God, it created us, right? Well... what creator doesn't tinker with their creations afterwards? If anything, Evolution points more to God existing than against it, we see how we have moved to out dominant position over the millenia, and how all of the other creatures have also improved into their niches.

I'll give it a shot, but I could be totally wrong.

I think the problem is that your perceptions of what would limit god are.

Gdo clearly believes that it is not limiting at all for God to be part of his creation, accepting that he is part of everything inside it, because clearly if God created everything, he would have to be inside his creation to create that.

The problem comes when you consider what was there before God created... anything, because from our standpoint there must have been a place for him to be before he created this place. Therefore, God must be outside his creation, because he was around before it was created.

I believe that Christianity gets around this problem quite well with the Trinity- the Father is outside this universe, The Son is inside the world, and the Holy Ghost is everywhere. Thus they can represent one overall deity as being in three places at once simply and easily.

(note: Him was used in this post for ease, and is not meant to oppress your own beliefs as to the gender of your deity.)

You should live your life to serve others... interesting concept, but personally, I don't buy it.

If there is a meaning to life, and its quite possible there isn't one, I believe it is to be happy. How you do this is your own issue, but happiness, and the pursuit of it, is something that must be a purely personal goal. Some people may find happiness doing things for their loved ones, sure, but in no way should this preclude people from seeking individual happiness.

After all, when its all over, all you have is the memories of what you left behind, and to me the idea of a life spent with as much happiness in it as possible is a lot better than a life spent sacrificing for others.

QuoteOr, just to add a dash of confusion: "Everything is true. Even false things." - Mal-2

That was one of the quotes that confused me more, but confusion when discussing God can only bring us closer to her, right?

Exactly, it is concerned more with the intentions and with thought processes than it is with what most people would consider to be magic... but since it is often referred to as chaos magic, its best to continue that because typing chaos magic into google will get you way more results than in I used another name

Contradictions in religion, an interesting subject to be sure. But... do I have anything useful to add, hmm... I suppose I do.

"Nothing is true; everything is permitted."

I'll explain more on request.

http://www.spiralnature.com/magick/chaos/

That is the best place I've seen for how I view it so far... I particularly like the opening quotes.

"I tell you: one must have chaos in one, to give birth to a dancing star. I tell you: you still have chaos in you."

- Nietzsche,

"Chaos can be beautiful and good. Order can be dangerous and evil. As any carpenter will tell you, some tools are dangerous. Dangerous tools are safest when properly sharpened, and used by experts. You get to be an expert by practicing your sharpening skills, not by hacking away..."

- raudlee

A very good website... I think, however, that accepting the tenants of Chaos Magic can make other pursuits harder, I've had limited success with some things, but the trick is trying to REALLY believe things, its quite hard, and I think I've actually been set back in relation to Astral Projection since I discovered Chaos Magic....

but it'll come in time.

First allow me to say that there is no absolute source on the occult. Anything you read about it in one place can, and will, be refuted, disputed, reviled, and held high by half a dozen other books/websites.

I myself believe in the power of Chaos Magic, which whilst it sounds incredibly dark and/or for-boding, is not. In fact, it is quite possibly the most logical of the theories I have heard.

Chaos magic is based upon the belief that reality is completely subjective, and that therefore it is based upon collective belief, if a person strongly believes in anything, then to an extent that thing will become more true. Thus in all cults there is a grain of truth- the rituals and the like they perform will work, not because the forces they conjure are true, but instead because they believe that it will work.

Effectively, you have to fake it until you make it.

Now, Energy Manipulation is just another way for this to happen, therefore, if you truly, utterly believe that it will work, it will work, and if you really truly believe that it works because God wills it, then that is great, but it won't have an effect on the outcome.

Overall, if it works, it is because you believe it to, IMOSHO, there is no higher power than that of the human mind.

So...

I'll be sending you some energy tonight, I hope it helps

Welcome to Astral Pulse Island! / Wow
April 16, 2006, 17:44:21
Hi all... its been a while.

Some of you might possibly remember me, I was Gohukes a few years ago now, never actually managed to achieve an Astral Projection of my own, all I ever got were a few lucid dreams, even in the years that followed, eventually I got frustrated and schoolwork kept me away ( I am now 17)

But... if I remember right, back then there was a lot of discussion and theories as to how Astral Projection worked, what it was, and I /think/ the dominant theory was that astral projection was a way for the conscious mind to project out and explore the mind and imagination in a more physical environment... I /think/ it was agreed meeting actual other AP'ers would be next to impossible...

Sooo... I guess my question is, how successful has this place been? How did it come about? And how long did it take for you to become good enough to get there?

This place has really grown whilst I've been away... I'm kinda sad that I've missed its growth, but equally happy that I remembered about it now.

Who knows, maybe I'll have more luck this time around.
