Hi Michael,
I begin my sessions with an "intent" to meditate.I unplug my phone and make sure no one is expected at the door, and the house is quiet and empty except for myself and my pets. I then seat myself fomfortably in an arm chair. Placing both feet, usualy bare, flat on the floor, and having my hands palms down on my lap. I let the arms of the chair support my elbows. I do not have a head rest on my chair. I sit up very straight, and close my eyes.
I breath in a relaxed mannor, drawing energy up through the bottom of my feet to the top of my head with the first three or four breaths. Then I simply relax and look at the darkness behind my closed eyelids. I stay in this state for a while, waiting patiently, and expectently for my body to go to sleep. If I have thoughts I simply "watch" them go by, but not getting caught up in them.
Once your body has "gone to sleep" your conciousness will be yours to direct. I have seem and learned much at this stage in meditation, and if a guide arrives I find an adventure in creative learning ahead. You will not know til you get there....
