But what is the focus or goal of the OOBE and Astral journey for all of you?

It's the attitude my father use to carry when I was growing up as a kid. I would mention spirits, or ghosts, or UFO's and his reply to it all was, "But who is going to pay the bills, the taxes and put food on the table?" He was a great dad as far as a family man who always paid the bills but not the kind of flake who dropped acid and dropped out and who might have better encouraged me in my spiritual pursuits.

The point I'm getting at is that I know for myself, I am seriously looking at Robert Bruce's material first and foremost as I too was put off by the 'commercialization' of TMI and other's in the new age and metaphysical cirlcles. Moreso, the experience itself, (and I only speak for myself here), has to be more than just a fascinating experience, occurring simply to bolster my ego so that I develop some kind of messiah complex and can brag to others, "Look what I can do!" Thankfully, what I have found in this forum so far is people that looking to expand their knowledge, advance their thinking, and aren't afraid to share and collaborate on shared experiences and gleen whatever useful information they can off one another. God, if the business world worked like this...we'd end about 99% of the world's resources and socio-economic problems.

Perhaps I am limited in my understanding of the OOBE phenomena, but if one of the focuses is simply out of your physical body and unhibited travel in through our existant world, could this ability not be better used in areas like finding missing children, or remote viewing or finding acheologic digs of important significance?

And as for money, if it was ever used the way it was meant, as an exchange of power for services rendered (i.e.= The doctor pays $50 to the garbage man who pays $50 to the dentist who pays $50 to the grocer who needs $50 to go to the doctor's), then we would live in a world that worked a bit more fair. When you impede and hoard that money to one person (i.e. greed?) would that not disrupt the flow of it and therefore create a defecit in other's lives who would better benefit by getting a chance to use it as well? Is not the same true with the gift of the OOBE abilities to some degree? What if it has far more untapped potential, like seeing things on the energetic level before it becomes manifest on the physical level, (like illness?) and preventing it, or in helping others to awakening to the experience by contacting them in the etheric or astral planes and acting as an activator by energetic association, (like the 100th monkey theory?).

Again, perhaps I have too many grand ideas for the design of OOBE and Astral travel, but I don't want to close my mind off to the possibilities of doing more than entertaining myself if it means others can benefit from it as well...

To James S, when you are ready to form an A-Team of sorts on the other side, let me know if I can apply! : )

Sincerely,
John

Thanks Jeff...

You are right. In reading a comment you made in http://www.astralpulse.com/forums/topic.asp?ARCHIVE=&TOPIC_ID=1999
you make a very good point. The events I witnessed were SO beyond what my normal imagination would have conjured. And in both experiences, it was very lucid and I was very aware, that is, in control, more than when you simply dreaming and are basically watching the events unfold.
The experiences were profound enough for me to make note of and affected me equally so. Hence, it is probably why I am now working to advance my ability with OOBE.
Thanks again...

Hello Jeff,

Actually the Kundalini experience came about due to several contributing factors. I was practicing several techniques at the time, prior to which (over the past 5 years before the experience) I had taken part in exercises and courses which dealt with breathing and primary energy center type focus.
On the night which this "awakening" occurred I was practicing a vispassana breathing technique and something made me utter the words, "I pray for death, give me a shamanic death..." Almost to the moment I uttered those words there was a silent hush that fell over the room and them an extreme heat in the base of my spine began. The heat expanded and shot up my spine like fire and finally around my head and out through the top of my crown. I remember hearing a rushing wind sound and the sound of like 'rice krispies when you pour milk over them' filling my ears and I was totally excited with this feeling. I instantly felt 'plugged in' with the universe and the syncronicty or heartbeat of the unvierse. When I looked in the mirror I noticed the pupils of my eyes were blown FULL OPEN Dialated, however, unlike an eye exam, my vision was in no way unfocused. On the contrary, for the next several months my physical senses of hearing, sight, smell, touch and intuitiveness was quite amplified, as well as strength and energy levels. I found myself only being able to sleep for about an hour or two per night and had alot of trouble staying grounded. This continued for the next 5 months and there was much other phenomena that went along with the experience. I should probably add that at the time, I had an office and was practicing Reiki and Reflexology as a full time practice and was constantly working with energies. I can only recount and tell you about my experience as 1. I perceived it and 2. as others around me perceived it. It was only after the experience that I received the most feedback from friends and family and their response was that whatever I was going through, there was a definate change in my personality, vitality and energy. That there was something tranquil yet mystic about that which was coming through me and I will tell you from my own experience. DO NOT PURSUE IT IF YOU HAVE NOT PREPARED FOR IT. Robert is correct in his book in stating that it can be detrimental or damaging to those uninitiated in the practice of raising such energies. The proper setting would probably be with other gurus or an ashram or retreat or somewhere where you can work with the energies and then come down from it. I have not pursued, nor will be 'amazed' by the phenomena of such an experience should it arise again. On the subject matter and in books published by experts such as Genivieve Paulson on the subject, Kundalini can manifest in so many different ways. I think Robert Bruce's techniques of working with energy and the secondary enegy centers would prepare you for such a release of energy.
So to answer your question Paul, it wasn't quite like a bum in San Francisco, and perhaps it was a 1 in a million shot like Mr. Bruce mentions as well. I have had all events validated by those who practice Kundalini and am very happy to say I know conclusively now that the experience was exactly what it was. I hope this reply is sufficient answer?

The past year I have been using 9-minute interval snooze hits on the alarm to induce lucid dreaming.

My body wakes naturally every night at a 2-3 dream minimum, I wait a let the memories register in my physcial mind before returning to sleep. For a short time I use to keep a dream journal and that was quite the experience as well.
