When are you attempting? The time of day affects your level of relaxation and amount of energy that you have quite a bit.

In the experiences I've had so far, I seem to have a tough time with physical movement in the OBE state. It's like I'm staggering or swimming through the air. Does this get better with time? Are there any tips for moving about in the OBE state?

A couple of thoughts:

1) I wouldn't worry so much about whether something is just a lucid dream or OBE or AP. In what I've gathered through reading and experience, these are all inter-related and are different ways of "focusing" or "phasing" your perception. There is a tendency to view these things in the sense of the material world of here and there, past and present, which is a mis-perception IMO. Frank Kepple's article on phasing here on this site changed my concept of what lucid dreaming and astral projection are.

2) After the experience, as the memory wears older, it starts to feel more and more like a dream. Like you weren't really there. This is a time-based distortion. Think of what you ate for breakfast this morning. Were you present the whole time? Does it feel real or more like a dream when you recall that experience? Now, if you were eating breakfast and a giraffe kicked your door down and walked into your kitchen, how real would that memory FEEL? I think my point is that you have to look at each experience as progress instead of questioning whether you "got there" or not.

It's hard to advise you when we don't know what you're doing while attempting. It's up to you to experiment. I left some suggestions on your blog by the way...

Just keep trying things and remain patient and very, very relaxed. Learn and master trance induction techniques.

That's cool that you are into Neil Slade's book, percussionist. I read Frontal Lobes Supercharge but haven't had the success you described. I may get back into it. I found his work to be very interesting, but less-than-professionally delivered.

OK what are bioenhancements? There's a word that comes up with zero hits on google.  :-D

I'm talking about the "physical" feeling of vibrations that Robert Monroe described and that I've seen described often. I think you bring up a good point, Astral Traveler, in that maybe you don't get the vibes as much because you project often from sleep. Maybe the vibes are a result of going into the mind-awake/body-asleep phase from normal waking consciousness. I know exactly what you mean about the hearing under water thing.

I've read conflicting things on the importance of these vibrations. I've had one successful (but brief) OBE and a few lucid dreams in the last few months but have never really experienced the dramatic vibrations that I've seen described so often. I do get weird auditory hallucinations and sometimes strange physical sensations (like the bed being kicked or my arm jumping).

I have a theory as to why this is so for me. Most of my successful work has been after a night of sleep and I've hardly attempted in the evening hours. Perhaps I would feel the vibrations more if I attempted during the day or at night.

I'm not overly concerned about the vibes. More curious than anything else. Anyone else not usually experience vibes?

Thanks Prop. I will definitely post updates.

Hey everybody!

I'm going out of town tomorrow morning to Vegas where I will have much more free time than usual... assuming I don't get too carried away with all the gambling/partying there.  :-D I figure that while I'm there I will work on my astral projection practice as much as time permits since I don't have to get up until 9am and get out of the conference I'm going to at 3pm. I'd like to try a couple of attempts per day. Possibly one in the afternoon and one during the early morning after 5-6 hours of sleep.

Anybody have suggestions? Is there a time I should try for in the afternoon if possible? Affirmations? What sorts of intentions should I set? Here's my thoughts: Go to bed at midnight and wake up at 5am, eat some food and read for about 45 minutes and then attempt. Then go do my thing during the day and try again during a mid-afternoon nap at 3:30 or so. Recommended reading? Is this post even worthwhile? Any random thoughts are welcome. Namaste.

Looks good man. Keep up the good work. Sounds like you are keeping a patient, positive attitude which is key. Check out my blog sometime. I tend to ramble but maybe there is some useful info in there somewhere.  :-D

Looks like you didn't get many replies here unfortunately.  :| Check out the blog post in my signature below for the method I've found useful. Modify it if you will...

I hate to be so blunt, but your problem sounds like your attitude. I don't mean to sound derogatory, I've only read one paragraph that you've written, but it sounds like you are running your head into a brick wall.

Try changing these two things:

1) Look at AP as something you are going to succeed at if it takes many years, but that you expect to succeed without a doubt. It is something you desire to do and every day you further mesh that desire into your reality and your mind.

2) "Small chunk" the process. If you've had no success, then what good is trying to just jump out of body again tonight? Say, OK, this week I'm going to develop my energy body and spend all week doing energy work. After that, continue the energy work and work on meditation and clearing your mind. Then, work on getting into trance. Etc, etc.

Keep in mind that getting frustrated only further prevents you from achieving your goal. It's a recipe for failure. You get frustrated in the unconscious belief that it will change the situation but it only makes things worse. Also keep in mind that fear and beliefs can be a big drawback. Examine your beliefs and your fears to see if anything contradicts with AP.

Just try it and look at the results. What's it gonna hurt?

You're asking for a pretty broad range of info there. Yes, be patient, but don't "plan" on it taking  a couple of years to learn. It may take two years or two days, but it's best to plan on being patient and enjoying the process. The following authors and their sites should be good places to start: Robert Bruce, Robert Monroe, Bruce Moen. That's just off the top of my head. Also check out the Frank Kepple page and the sticky posts at the top of this forum.

Nice going! The first one is a great feeling isn't it? To experience a little bit of some of the things you've read about is really great. Keep us posted on your successes.

I should clarify my bwgen experience. I shouldn't say I've had zero success with the bwgen that comes with MAP. The only ones I've gotten to are weeks 1-5 which aren't supposed to take you out of body. The lucid dream presets haven't done much for me, but the trance induction and meditation presets are pretty good.

That's a good point about not having to use a PC to listen to the Gateway CD's, CFTraveler. It really is a little annoying to have to be close enough to the laptop so that the headphones will reach. It would be really fancy to have them on my iPod.

Thanks for the great input from everyone.

Has anyone experienced the Monroe Institute's Gateway Series or their other hemi-sync products to compare to the Brainwave Generator that we're all so familiar with? I've had almost zero success with bwgen as far as I can tell. I'm using the one that came with Mastering Astral Projection and I'm only on week 5/6, but I haven't noticed anything outstanding with the bwgen.

I think they do at some of the "higher" realms, but above that I think gender and opposites is transcended and sex is pointless. In Far Journeys, Monroe says that the feeling of oneness (I'm paraphrasing here) experienced at these higher levels far outshines any physical sex experienced in the time-space reality.

Can anyone confirm that this exercise works as far as working on your auric sight? That exercise is so difficult for me...
#45
Very insightful post Tayesin. Thanks for taking the time to write that.

Man I wish I was going. That sounds really cool.

I would love to hear from anyone who has attended a Monroe Institute event/retreat/etc. From their website it looks like they are very well organized.

Since I've begun attempting lucid dreams and astral projection I've noticed some energy movement that takes place when I'm in the sleep or trance state. There is an energy current that runs up and down my body at the rate of probably 1 seconds up the body and 1 second down. I've been able to actually control the intensity and the timing of this current. When it is at its strongest, I almost hear a click at the top of my head before it shifts back down the body. Has anyone else noticed this. Is there any sort of name for this phenomena? My guess is that this is the energy body rejuvenating the physical body overnight.

I'd like to look at some of Frank's posts here. What was his handle when he posted here?

From what I've read, all those things are possible to experience in lucid dreaming or astral projection. It's important to make the distinction between the two though. These images you've seen could have been your subconscious mind projecting things into the scenario, or they could have been actual entities. You need to do a lot of reading. I suggest reading Frank Kepple's article here (just do a search) as well as stuff by Robert Bruce. There are tons of authors out there really.

Hey Stumpy - You should read Frank Kepple's article when you have time. http://www.astralpulse.com/frankkepple.html

It's really long but it's an awesome explanation of how all this theoretically works. It's really made me re-evaluate my concept of... reality, to be honest. From what it sounds like, when you were in the space with stars and frames and all of that, you could have been in between "zones". The way Kepple explains it, and I'm paraphrasing, is that there is an in-between area between your subconscious mind (where lucid dreaming takes place) and the next level of real astral projection. It sounds slightly similar to what you described. Read the article when you have time. It's really extremely interesting.
