Welcome to Integral Philosophy! / World Blues...

Hi Tia,

Unfortunately the most attention grabbing and rate grabbing news is all the horrific stuff that goes on. There are millions of kind compassionate acts taking place every day but they aren't deemed news worthy because they don't get peoples attention as much as a horror story! Sad but true...

The world is a terrible place...but it is also a wonderful place. Follow fallnangel's advice and take a break from the world. There is no need to watch the news all the time and take on all the things that have no meaning to you. Use the news ime to do something else...meditate? go for a walk? spend time with famly or friends? Do things that make you smile http://www.astralpulse.com/forums/images/icon_Smile.gif" border=0>

Take care and I hope the blues wash away soon!

There was proof of tampering / fake photos too in that documentary that was on. The camera lens apparently had crosses etched in the surface for measurements or something and in some photos the crosses fall behind objects which is entirely impossible unless some tampering took place.

I'm still undecided as to whether we have or have not been to the moon...

General-Army: Think outside the square as they say http://www.astralpulse.com/forums/images/icon_Smile.gif" border=0> Who says that the simulation that is our universe as we know it is being run on a computer as we understand them to be? Who says a second in our world relates to a second elsewhere?

I know that if I was running a simulation I would not want to wait hundreds of thousands of years for results. I would run it as quickly as possible and have the simulation spit out results all nicely summarised for me.

Also you say that scientists would have more important things to study? Well have a look about at some things studied today. People run simulations on wildlife populations and things like that..perhaps we are like that? Or perhaps we are just a bit of fun programming being done by some school student...maybe he will shut us down soon because it is bedtime! heheh

I will let all the anti-Guinness comments slide too! http://www.astralpulse.com/forums/images/icon_Smile_tongue.gif" border=0>

Helmut/  Mobius: Have you guys seen Dark City? That is also a pretty cool movie based around a similar sort of idea that we aren't what/where we think we are. Yeah The 13th Floor was a cool movie as is TRON..I love that one.

General-Army: I think you miss the idea of a simulation. Every possible scenario needs to be played out whether it be a paralyzed person, a football player, drunk or even a spiritualist. Just because a person is paralyzed doesn't mean they become invalidated as an entity in a simulation. Leaving your body could also be a part of the simulation.

I think therefore I am or I am just programmed to think? http://www.astralpulse.com/forums/images/icon_Smile.gif" border=0>

I read an article today saying about how researchers are looking into the speed of light and how it may be slowing down....someone is tweaking the settings to the universe! hehehe

My brother and I debated this topic at length on numerous beer driven discussions about 10 years ago! http://www.astralpulse.com/forums/images/icon_Smile.gif" border=0>

This one and another saying we could just be an experiment sitting on some kids desk...like an ant farm or similar.

They are all food for thought! http://www.astralpulse.com/forums/images/icon_Smile.gif" border=0>

Maybe it will all just end. A philosopher somewhere has written a paper on how we could all just be living inside a complex computer simulation (yes...very Matrix-y). Maybe they need the powerpoint? http://www.astralpulse.com/forums/images/icon_Smile.gif" border=0>

Hey PW,

Yeah I have Burning Chrome on my book case at home and it comes out quite often. All the stories in that are good. I haven't been reading much sci-fi lately...been into a spiritual book phase. Reading bits and pieces about meditation, Buddhism and things like that but I'm sure Burning Chrome will come out again soon now after this discussion! http://www.astralpulse.com/forums/images/icon_Smile.gif" border=0>

I haven't read Robert Ludlum but I have been reading William Gibson for quite awhile now. He has a very interesting style which is pretty cool. He manages to convey a pretty dark dingy techno future whick most geeks would probably embrace! http://www.astralpulse.com/forums/images/icon_Smile.gif" border=0>

Sometimes it is good to take a break from what you are doing. Whether it be a complete break or just stopping your old practises and trying something new. I always find that this helps revitalise and refresh my mind!

I do agree that the relentless pursuit of profit and wealth for a whole lifetime is a shallow and meaningless, but...

To a certain extent you need to make sure you are able to survive in the material world as it is today. If you cannot do that then how can you have the strength / time to explore your spirituality, etc etc. If you dont spend at least sometime looking after wealth then all you will have is a very thin coffin and nothing but the spiritual life! hehe

Welcome to Spiritual Evolution! / Buddhism

The first noble truth seems to be a little weird on first impressions. From what I gather with my readings it means that to eliminate suffering you must first understand suffering. I think it means that even the positive sides of life, i.e. happiness, are based in the physical world and therefore impermanent. Compared to where we can be even the good points of this physical life are intimately tied with suffering.

Does that make any sense? http://www.astralpulse.com/forums/images/icon_Smile_big.gif" border=0>

I am fairly new to reading and learning about Buddhism so I might be way off the mark, but that is my understanding at the moment!
