Welcome to Dreams! / Re: Fear to sleep.

You mean fear of what i might dream?

You said it yourself.  You felt like you were going to die. I used to fear the same thing when I started doing OOBEs.

Thanks genep. That's right on the money. I looked up something about Samadhi and the different levels associated with Samadhi, and things seem to fit. So now, I've gotta 1) push past the fear of the visual hypnagogic imagery and 2) do it for long enough so that it's programmed. Anyone got any tips on how to push past the fear? I was thinking I have to be fearless in waking life maybe?

Herewini1985

I had missed your original post about the odd noises.  I had not ever had these noises during meditation. For me, I started hearing noises similar to your descriptions when I was very young and trying to sleep.  For me, this was the beginning of my experiences learning about OOBES.  I explain in my blog (see signature for path) about my early experiences, and how I overcame my fear of the experiences.  The blog is arranged to describe the events in chronological order if you start with the first post.

I had to do it.  Since I was little, I had the experiences spontaneously, not knowing what it was about, and having no place to learn about it. So, most all I learned was from doing it.  It was a pleasant surprise to later read about the experiences others had and see they were similar to mine.

Hi all,

I read little about the astral projection earlier and almost forgot it.I remember I just intended to do that, but I was afraid to try.

Nowadays, after some time I start thinking again of astral projection.I am not sure whether I'll do it and want you to give me good reasons why I suppose to do it.Why people do astral projection? What are benefits of it.

Yes, but does OBE only feel more real because we exit into our familliar surroundings (usually our bedroom)? For me at least, lucid dreams usually occur when I am already in some strange situation, in a location which is often an odd blend of several half-familiar places. For that reason they are bound to feel more dreamlike aren't they? So maybe the difference is just one of perception....

Well, sure how one perceives is important to the way one views OOBE or lucid dreams. But for me, it is more than just that I feel awake in the OOBE.  It feels like I have full waking consciousness. My mind seems to work the same way as it would being awake. That is why OOBEs seem so real. And it is probably one reason that so many have to overcome a very real fear in initially going OOB (at least those of us who were originally spontaneous projectors).  If I am afraid in a dream, and I am lucid, I can either force myself to wake up, or I can change the dream.  When I am in an OOBE, I already feel fully awake, so any threat that may cause fear seems totally real.  One other thing- for me anyway- I almost never start to "see" in the familiar surroundings of my own room.  But even in the earlier experiences when I did start in more familiar surroundings, the intensity of the experiences could generate fear that felt very real.  Imagine an experience in which you had continuity of consciousness from your head hitting the pillow, to being taken out through the roof to what appeared to be the far reaches of the solar system.

I just know that some people use the earhiss to get into a trance when they try to project, I read in some posts. I am a complete beginner with projecting and so far I only had spontaneous OBE's. So this is not really a technique, but again something that happened spontaneously and I find it intriquing.

Hi again Timandra-

From my experience that ear hiss you talk of can be a trigger of the needed level of consciousness to achieve OOBEs, even if they are rather spontaneous in nature as mine usually are. What I usually do in successful use of this as a trigger, is to make the hiss "behave" differently- or try to anyway.  It is similar to how you can change the frequency of the vibrations once they start.  I "think" the hiss higher, then lower. I make it louder, or softer, etc. Sometimes the hiss seems to hit the resonant frequency of a certain spot in my head that causes or at least enhances the beginning of the OOBE.

Congratulations.  And also, you are quite correct as to lucid dream and OOBE differences. In a lucid dream, you know it is a dream- In an OOBE, you know you are awake.  At least, that is how it has been for me.

Thanks for sharing this. I have also been having these experiences since I was a very small child. Some of mine seem trivial, and many more mean a lot to me. At times I wake up wishing I could have stayed wherever I had just been.  It has been an interesting journey. You have to experience these types of OOBEs to really appreciate how they can impact your current life.  I have been to similar places, and met with what I interpreted as Elders.  At times I have been very intimidated with these meetings. I have been warned at times to get my act together, and stop wasting so much time.  At other times, I have had almost pleasant experiences with the Elders. I have also written many of my experiences into my blog that is in my signature line here.  Good Luck to you, and thanks for the post.

I have experienced several lucid dreams. However, I have never managed to erase the dream imagery around me (to exit from my dream into the astral plane).

Does anyone have any suggestions how can I do it?

Should I just try to imagine a well-known phisicall location (a peculiar building in my hometown,...) and intend to go there?

My favorite way is to just do some action in the dream that is physically impossible, or something that you would never do in real life. Usually, when I do that, the dream fades away.

I read somewhere that propping your arm up at night will help you achieve the awake/asleep state as you will realize when it's no longer propped up (ok not explained very well but I'm sure you know what I'm talking about).

Years ago I used this method and all it did was keep me awake as I was so focused on keeping my arm up. Not to mention it was incredibly uncomfortable and quite a few times I had to stretch my arm out. Does this happen to anyone else?

Do I have to be in a super sleepy state whilst attempting the method? Because if I was that tired the only thing that would be on my mind would be sleep, and not having to focus on holding my arm up.

This is almost funny. Not you, I mean- But, when I was a kid, and wanted to stop the SP incidents I knew I would have, and all that went with them, I used to hold my arm just as you describe in an attempt to stay awake so I would NOT have the experience.  You know what? It did not stop it.  What I remember though, is that I used to skim along just on the verge of falling asleep, and then I would feel my arm start to fall, and I would wake up again. So, that part of it works. I never thought of it as a way to start the experience- But I can see how it would help.  One thing you might have to experiment with is trying to set yourself up to where the arm almost will stay up on its own- balanced where it will take a minimal effort on your part to hold it up.  It will still fall when you take too much attention off of it.  And maybe if you do not have to try as hard to hold it up, it will not be as demanding on your attention to it.

I've read about this in several different places, but what does it actually mean, and how do you do it? I've heard the higher you raise, the more clear your projections become. Also, what are some other benefits.

In my blog I talk about how raising vibrations level happened to me. It involved color, and raising frequency in the vibrations. I am not sure how much I had to do with this since I was very new to it at the time. But, for me it opened up the experience to a new understanding. I could now accept the OOBE part of it, and begin to explore- while prior to this I was in so much fear, I never could accept the experience.  So, that would be one key benefit.  It lessens the fear to a point that the OOBE process becomes easier.

I was wondering what these vibrations feel like for all of you?
My experience is that when i close my eyes and begin to relax i feel like i am bouncing in and out of my third eye area. It feels literally as if one were to take a video camera and zoom in and out really fast. I have compared this to vertigo but its not like it is an uncomfortable feeling, i dont feel sick, and when i open my eyes i feel normal. Is this something that anyone else experiences, or is it more likely something a doctor should check out?

Currently, my vibrations start in the base of my skull, and then hit the top of my head before spreading down over the rest of my body.  In the past, they were a lot more intense in my lower abdomen, and at times I have felt nauseated when the experience was over.

I don't know that there are any- I've read Kundalini described in many ways, (electricity, fire, heat, cold, water) and in terms of consciousness, but I've never heard of it described in terms of vibrations.  I know two people who raised Kundalini, and neither of them experienced it in terms of vibrations either.

Here is a site that suggests aspects of Kundilini compared to vibrations as felt in OBE type expereinces.

Thanks ancient one i will waiting.

I had a rare set of four projections last night.

The first one had me just skimming the surface of the experience. It is like a flat rock skipping across a lake. Eventually, I just went under and then it all faded again.  I had thought of Rusty and the request or someone to visit.
After a brief pause, it started again. This time the vibration were strong.  I heard two women talking just barely audible. The discussion seemed to be about money.  I am not sure if there is a connection to my target.  I also hear a name "Cecilia."  I knew a Cecilia once, but I am not sure if I thought of her first, or heard the name and they thought of her.  I do not get to Rusty. It fades again.

This time it was even stronger.  I wanted to get to Rusty on the Astral Pulse group. I said it to myself over and over.  I heard the same voices.  Still I did not get any results.

The fourth time, I still heard the voices.  One said "He is asleep",  but I kept going. Finally I stopped and the vibrations faded. I saw a face.  Short dark hair, and a rather prominent nose- is all I can describe.  Not sure if it is Rusty or just a dream at this point.
So- Rusty. I tried. I am not sure if I am even close. It is not easy when I do not know someone.
It all ended at 1:50 AM pacific time on 09/01/09.

I used to experience it a lot when I had fever, but also up recently when going into trance.

The feeling is quite hard to describe, but when you even so slightly gnash the teeth it feels as tho they were out of gum, but there's also a feeling of whool. It's very strange. Maybe it's just part of of paralysis, but I haven't experienced full paralysis.

Have you experienced?

I have felt the weird stuff in my mouth, but never associated that experience with going OOB.

I would say demon possession could only happen if you believe it can, and even then it would be doubtful. As far as being dangerous- No- I have had the experience happen to me my entire life- and I am still here.  (or am I? )  :)

Howdy ancient one i know were not friends but can't you try just ask to go and find Rusty maybe it
will work. Then we can share an astral adventure together.

Who knows? It might work. Unless my "guide" says- "Rusty who?"
My experiences have become few and far between compared to a few years ago though. Maybe someone who is more regular would work better.  But, I will keep Rusty in mind if I get out soon.

Howdy ancient one next time you go astral come to me and pull me out if you can. If i am sleeping of course. i might be asleep any time between 12am and 6am.

Like the subject goes though, it is much easier if a friend does it.  I would have to get to you first-and it is easier to get to a person to whom you have a strong emotional tie.

I have had many experiences where it seemed someone was pulling me out- usually by my "feet."

Why?

Why What?

Why she? The wife of my friend was raised in a very religious home and family, and this sort of thing scared her to death-

Why me? At the time, real life transportation to this hospital would have been difficult for me- so trying to verify it myself at that time probably seemed to be out of the question. And also at that point, I did not require any more verification for that experience.

It started about 5 months ago, everytime I'm about to project I "hear" this strange signal. I can't really describe it accurately but it "sounds" like this:
RA-wa-Ra-wa RA-wa-Ra-wa RA-wa-Ra-wa

(for many years I never heard this before so I'm a bit baffled)

It's not really a sound but it is, I don't know how else to describe it. It's a sound as much as the vibes are a sound...

I'm wondering if it's some type of homing signal (like Monroe talked about)? I suppose I could just follow it but I haven't worked up the ... gusto yet.

Anyone experience anything similar?

I used to hear a sound similar to the alert signal the phone company runs when you leave the receiver off the hook for too long.

I was laying on my couch taking a nap, and I was drifting off to sleep.
I had a feeling that I was awake but asleep at the same time.
I rose up a bit, but I felt like I had a connection with something, something kept pulling on my spine, and it felt scary.
I pushed my hands in the air, and felt a swishing noise in my head, pulsing and swoshing, SWOSSSHHHH! And wild whistles.
This scared me, and I began freaking out, I rose from the couch, and I could see hands, and another duplicate set under the ones I were controlling, I couldn't look back, I was too scared.  Then I remember not being able to move, and I couldn't see anything.
I'm scared, can anyone tell me what happened?
:?

Thank you..

I agree with what others have said so far. This is all normal, and a part of it that you will just have to get used to.  I can say that after a lifetime of experiences, I wonder if anyone is ever totally used to it. Even now, there are times that an experience can start up for me and if I am not aware enough of the early signs, it can still scare the hell out of me.  And as you already know, it is the perceived "realness" of the experience that makes it so scary.  I was over the fear part of it back when I was a teenager. But one  of the last experiences I had really got to me.

Hi Phxsun

One thing I try to do in my AP, is to NOT EVER try to see my body- It is a distraction at best.  If you feel you are out, and it seems to me that you were- Just try to get out of the vicinity of your body. You did not go through all of this just to look at yourself- or not.  Have a goal in mind, and think of it as the vibrations start. If you do that, you will tend to stay out longer.

If you could put these events in this down in a story form, you could have a science fiction work on your hands.  Not trying to detract from it at all- it is interesting.  I have had some experiences over the years that were quite involved as this is, and I can never remember enough of the details of them. I just know that if I could, I would write something to try to publish.

As far as the experience goes, it is interesting in itself. I am not sure about any of the technology mentioned. But, I get a feeling that on a certain level, even if doing ap is very interesting to you, a certain part of your own mind is trying desperately to keep you from doing it, or even attempting it in the future.  Most of the beings I have met out there have been very helpful- unlike those you encounter who either seem to be a threat, or directly tell you that you should not be doing this.

One thing I did remember reading your story was that I had an interesting dream at some earlier point in my life. I was out in a group gathering. The group had something to do with training I was undergoing at the time.  I wandered off on my own to a field with tall grass, and laid down- I am not sure why at this point.  Suddenly, I was aware that they were searching for me, and I was very scared that they would find me.  Of course, they did find me. I remember seeing the tall grass part, and I saw two very tall and thin persons standing there looking in my direction.  I really hoped that if I stayed very still and calm they would not find me, but they started to approach anyway.  As they got closer to me, I got more and more scared- almost to the point of panic.  One of them had a long staff.  They got up to where I was, and one of them touched me- not sure if it was the staff or something else. But, the imagery of the grass and being in that field suddenly disappeared.  But they were still both there. Suddenly I was half in and half out of my body, with the two beings on either side of me.  I could see my bedroom now and the two were as plain as day still in what I thought was my real-life bedroom.  I finally forced myself awake, and saw my real bedroom.  I am not real sure who they were. I have seen similar beings in other dream-like OOBEs and some real OOBEs.  They always make me nervous.

K about AP positioning: is it just as possible to astral project from being on your side? seems to me alot of people who AP try and attempt to achieve this while being on their back. Can you try and induce an AP while commonly going to bed on your side? (before actually trying to sleep)

Also if it possible; is there a technique that tends to work better for people trying on their side? thx.

It works best for me if I am on one side or the other.  On my back, I tend to have trouble breathing in an OOBE.
#50
For me, it is simply a matter of me knowing that when I am in a lucid dream, I am dreaming.  And when I am in an OOBE. I know I am still awake.  Usually in my OOBEs I have a continual sense of being consciously awake as the experience begins, and this feeling stays with me.  In the lucid dream, I know I have been dreaming and that I am becoming consciously aware that I am dreaming.
